This position will support our Remediation team within our Environment business line. This position is expected to begin immediately. The Geologist II will serve as a team member in the field and the office, assisting project and program management with implementation of soil, groundwater, sediment and surface water investigative and remediation programs, data analysis, and report preparation. This is a field-based role comprising approximately 75% fieldwork and 25% office-based work. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about environmental investigation and remediation and will join a large established team conducting environmental assessment and remediation projects. This position requires excellent written and spoken communication skills, organizational and time management skills, flexibility to work on a range of projects, and a positive attitude. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the project team, clients, site personnel and office management, and have the ability to work both independently and as a part of a project team. Please take note this role will require travel outside of the Atlanta Metropolitan area (from days to weeks) to support projects as needed across the region and the United States. The job responsibilities for this position will include but are not limited to: * Utilizing various techniques to generate data from remedial or investigative field work. Field work includes but is not limited to soil/groundwater/vapor sampling, soil boring/monitoring well installations with various drilling techniques (i.e., DPT, HSA, sonic, air rotary, mud-rotary, etc.), operations and maintenance of remedial systems, etc. * Performing work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision. * Developing knowledge of job-specific federal, state, and local laws and regulations and assigned job specifications. * Detecting problems when using standardized procedures because of the condition of sample, difficulties with the equipment, etc. * Proposing appropriate analytical methods and techniques. Assisting in providing advice and consulting services within scope of scientific knowledge. * Interpreting and recording data, conducting analyses, comparing findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations. Qualifications: * Minimum of bachelor's degree in biology, natural resources, environmental science, or a related field. * 3- to 7-years of experience in environmental compliance and permitting, with a focus on aquatic resources. Establish a collaborative relationship with the client's Operation team to facilitate the management of EHS aspect of Construction activities. Attend and facilitate client specific training, campaigns and initiatives as requested. Prepare and provide construction health and safety training as requested. May act as a lead role for a team of ES&H specialists and/or support personnel. Support global construction EHS team in developing, reviewing, and executing global programs and initiatives. Assist with localization of global programs such as translation and transculturation as needed. Conduct topic specific focused field audit, document verification and personal interviews as needed. A minimum of 60% of working hours shall be in the field engaging, coaching, walking. May need to travel to multiple project locations, as needed. Provides technical leadership and functional guidance to ensure regulatory standards are being enforced. Ensures that quality control procedures are executed to monitor all aspects of regulations. Primary Responsibilities As an employee-owner in this Rail Structures Designer/EIT role, we'll count on you to: * Apply structural engineering techniques and procedures related to the design of bridges, structures, retaining walls and supporting facilities for our various freight railroad clients * Work under the guidance and direct supervision of a Professional Engineer to serve in a technical capacity to assist in checking drawings and calculations, developing material lists and calculating quantities, and reviewing construction submittals, using structural design software programs. * Participate and assist in rail bridges and structures assessments. * Assist with development of project deliverables, including calculations, design plans, cost estimates, specifications, and feasibility reports. * Have a desire to work in and learn about the railroad industry and may regularly interact with clients and other rail industry professionals. * Work closely with Project Engineers and Managers to gain the engineering experience to obtain professional engineering license. Preferred Qualifications * Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate * Candidates without their EIT will be placed into a Design Coordinator job code and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression * Intern or professional experience in transportation-related civil design (e.g., roadway, railroads or transit, or other linear corridor design). * Strong understanding and experience with engineering software packages. * Experience in bridges or structures design. * Successfully passed Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (i.e.., EI or EIT credentials), with desire to obtain PE license preferred.
