This position will support our Remediation team within our Environment business line. This position is expected to begin immediately. The Geologist II will serve as a team member in the field and the office, assisting project and program management with implementation of soil, groundwater, sediment and surface water investigative and remediation programs, data analysis, and report preparation. This is a field-based role comprising approximately 75% fieldwork and 25% office-based work. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about environmental investigation and remediation and will join a large established team conducting environmental assessment and remediation projects. This position requires excellent written and spoken communication skills, organizational and time management skills, flexibility to work on a range of projects, and a positive attitude. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the project team, clients, site personnel and office management, and have the ability to work both independently and as a part of a project team. Please take note this role will require travel outside of the Atlanta Metropolitan area (from days to weeks) to support projects as needed across the region and the United States. The job responsibilities for this position will include but are not limited to: * Utilizing various techniques to generate data from remedial or investigative field work. Field work includes but is not limited to soil/groundwater/vapor sampling, soil boring/monitoring well installations with various drilling techniques (i.e., DPT, HSA, sonic, air rotary, mud-rotary, etc.), operations and maintenance of remedial systems, etc. * Performing work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision. * Developing knowledge of job-specific federal, state, and local laws and regulations and assigned job specifications. * Detecting problems when using standardized procedures because of the condition of sample, difficulties with the equipment, etc. * Proposing appropriate analytical methods and techniques. Your Role: * Support/lead permitting activities and manage tasks to for a range of infrastructure, energy, and development projects (e.g., Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, Mid-Atlantic area state permits, Marine Mammal Protection Act, Magnuson Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, NEPA, NPDES, etc.) * Lead stream and wetland delineation and assessment, and other natural resource surveys. * Engage with clients to develop proposals, prepare cost estimates, and respond to Requests for Proposals/Qualifications (RFPs/RFQs). * Provide technical expertise and support for critical issues analysis and environmental planning. * Collaborate with project managers and field teams to ensure quality control of data collected during field operations, including direct mentorship and oversight of junior staff. * Prepare technical documents, including reports and permit applications, for submittal to regulatory agencies. Includes direct coordination, verification, and receipt of permit approvals. * Provide senior oversight and guidance regarding stakeholder engagement and overall permitting trajectory * Secure jurisdictional determinations from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). * Prepare and submit Department of Army applications, including use of the USACE RRS system. * Manage state and local requirements relevant to CWA 404/401 approvals, including direct engagement with regulators to secure the appropriate environmental permits for federal, state, and local wetland and waterbody impacts permitting. * Engage with regulatory agencies and clients to facilitate project reviews, pre-application meetings, and compliance with local, state, and federal environmental laws. * Maintain up-to-date knowledge of environmental regulations and best practices within the industry. * Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards. * Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge, and awareness. * Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns. * Mentor and train junior staff as appropriate. * Additional duties as required. Qualifications: * Minimum of bachelor's degree in biology, natural resources, environmental science, or a related field. * 3- to 7-years of experience in environmental compliance and permitting, with a focus on aquatic resources. Job Description AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Environmental Scientist for employment in the Atlanta, GA office. This position would support the Environmental business line, primarily working on Federal/CERCLA/FUDs projects including Superfund and DOD sites. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: * Conduct planning, implementation, and evaluation of data for CERCLA remediation investigations and remedial activities including RI, FS, ROD, PP and RDs. * Manage or participate in treatability studies and full scale implementation of in situ and ex situ remediation of environmental media. * Utilizes basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope. * Prepares technical work plans and reports. * Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance. * Plan, execute, analyze and report on environmental measures in natural systems. * Apply standard field practices and techniques using basic field equipment to collect samples of soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water, sediment; prepare samples for shipping, and complete chain-of-custody or similar paperwork. * Apply knowledge of natural sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, hydrology, and mathematics) to explain observations. * Conduct oversight of subcontractors including laboratories and excavation and drilling companies. * Study contaminants and determine how to restore the environment. * Review analytical data for general indicators of quality for routine analyses based on well-defined guidelines. * Coordination with task and project managers, working with on-site subcontractors and field staff, supporting sampling, data collection, and field documentation. * Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, and commitment to workplace health and safety Qualifications Minimum Requirements * Bachelor's degree in Geology, Engineering or Environmental Science, + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education * Valid U.S. Driver's License * Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.
