has an opening for an entry level
Geologist
in our
Kansas City, MO
office to assist with a variety of projects including data management, site investigations and remediation.
This position is expected to begin in February 2026.
The successful candidate will assist with gathering and analyzing geological, hydrogeological and geochemical data in both the field and office settings. The field activities will consist of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air and soil vapor sample collection, geological logging and interpretation, and the oversight of subcontractors including laboratories and excavation and drilling companies. The office activities will involve preparation of investigation reports.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Conducting environmental field work, including collecting soil, surface water, groundwater, and remediation system data; soil logging; and fluid level gauging.
Oversight of contractors conducting field surveys, drilling, well installation, development operations, and utility clearance for intrusive operations.
Participation in a health and safety team performing inspections, observations, and training.
Field document preparation, field data collection, processing, and interpretation.
Supporting office tasks, including data entry, data analysis, report preparation, and maintenance of a records archive system.
Collect and record data and compare results to relevant studies and state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
Travel to project locations including driving and overnight stays.
Candidate must also be able to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors. Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative. Field work will be required including oversight of subcontractors.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Chemistry or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Valid U.S. Driver's License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review and a substance abuse test.
Due to the nature of work, US citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Basic understanding of environmental regulations such as ASTM-1527-21, AAI, RCRA, TSCA, and SARA.
Ability to understand and supervise advancement of soil borings and installation of monitoring wells.
Ability to demonstrate a primary technical role in multiple site characterization, subsurface investigation, and remediation projects at various client sites.
Understand and assist with site conceptual models.
Collect and evaluate environmental data in field and office settings.
Prepare investigation reports and drawings.
Possesses technical report writing skills.
Independent field work and leadership of field teams.
Contractor oversight.
Selected candidate will be required to complete 40-hour HAZWOPER training or annual refresher class, if needed.
Selected Candidate will also receive First Aid/CPR training and AECOM specific training.
Learn and develop a keen understanding of hazard recognition, and environmental investigation or remediation.

In this role, you will primarily support remedial operations maintenance and monitoring projects at client facilities and field sites. The candidate will ideally have experience in general construction and environmental remediation/sampling and an interest in hands-on mechanical problem solving). The primary responsibility of the water resources project manager will be to provide in-house leadership and guidance as it relates to water resources services as well as delivering projects for clients related to stormwater work and growing the external visibility of HDR's Stormwater Program. Overview
We have an exceptional opportunity for a Water Infrastructure Program Manager (PgmM), focused on developing, coordinating, and delivering water infrastructure consulting, design projects and tasks for data center clients. The role will coordinate and collaborate with teams inside HDR to support water infrastructure oriented tasks including environmental, permitting, industrial water/wastewater treatment, building architecture, and other expertise from all HDR's service areas relating to data center water infrastructure. The role will also work with vendors and subconsultants as needed.
Responsibility Details
This role includes program development, planning, and project delivery responsibilities supporting water infrastructure relating to designing and constructing data centers for a specific client or set of clients. This position will manage teams working to complete tasks from front-end site due-diligence evaluation, consulting, planning, and detailed design support through the construction administration and commissioning phases of data center projects. Services provided may include planning/consulting (due diligence/campus planning phase), design (including construction administration and commissioning phases), and O&M/retrofit scopes. The PgmM will also support water sustainability initiatives as aligned by client goals.
To execute HDR's water infrastructure scopes and responsibilities, this role will collaborate with our practices and professional discipline groups across HDR on staff assignments, technical services, activities to continually improve standards and best practices, and implementation of effective quality assurance and quality control procedures. This person will need to be able to balance the fast pace and variable environment of working with data center clients.
The PgmM will participate in and oversee the execution of consulting, planning, and design scope delivery. The delivery includes overall performance, financial metrics for water infrastructure tasks, schedule, quality, contractual compliance, HDR task order safety planning, risk mitigation, and overall excellent client experience and satisfaction.
Responsibilities also include day-to-day coordination of new potential task orders with the client and HDR's Tech/Media/Telecom (TMT) business development teams. Overall, The PgmM will work with our TMT leadership and business development team to grow HDR's water-related work for data center clients and continue our growth as one of the top data center designers in the world. The PgmM will collaborate with business development teams to identify and develop opportunities and pursuits and work with HDR's client managers and interface with clients to formulate project approaches and develop detailed project scopes that meet client expectations.
HDR's responsibilities to serve our client will require work on diverse geographic locations. As such, travel is estimated at 20-30%.
Specific responsibilities will include:
TMT Market Sector - Data Center Objectives
* Incorporate our HDR Corporate 2027 Goals and specific strategic vision within the data center / mission critical market to become the industry leader.
* Communicate strategic and growth business plans to meet key financial objectives of our TMT sector specifically focused on Data Centers.
* Serve as the Client Manager for water infrastructure scope with selected data center clients in North America and be active and visible in the industry.
Business Development Responsibilities
* Support business development and pursuit activities through identification of project opportunities, proposal development, presentation to clients and scope development/contract negotiations after selection. Business development opportunities may include both new and existing sites.
* Cultivate long-term, sustainable, value-based client relationships with clients. In time the role may expand to include partners, such as subconsultants, water treatment vendors, and water treatment equipment manufacturers.
Support to Key Project/Program Delivery
* Take on Project Management (PM) and Principal in Charge (PIC) assignments that leverage this leadership role by driving client satisfaction, staff development, technical excellence and mentoring opportunities.
* Manage the day-to-day activities of project-based team members and ensure that they meet deadlines and deliver high quality work. This effort may include assigning tasks, providing feedback, and facilitating collaboration.
* Identify key staff to support new opportunities, including monitoring of staff workload and facilitate work sharing amongst and between HDR groups. Scope may expand to recruit new staff based on client project needs
* Provide mentorship and coaching to staff working on data center projects.

Qualifications

In the role of Kansas City Construction Inspection Intern, we'll count on you to:
* Assist a Inspector conduct and document observations of construction as it progresses for projects related to civil infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, water/wastewater facilities, pump stations or pipelines
* Monitor, record and inspect progress on construction projects
* Assist a Inspector coordinate field materials sampling and testing, including concrete slump and air testing, casting concrete test cylinders, and performing in-place soil compaction testing
* Receive general supervision from the Senior Inspector who reviews work while in progress
* Assist a Inspector perform measurements and calculations necessary to determine quantity of work performed and materials required
* Check layout and dimensions of work by utilizing basic tape measures, rules and other instruments
* Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents
* Compose reports with a daily log of construction activities, field inspections, tests performed, personnel assigned, equipment used, weather conditions, and other information pertinent to the progress of the work
* Enter and record information regarding construction projects into computer programs
* Perform other duties as required
* This position typically requires successfully passing drug-screening procedures prior to being hired; thereafter subject to random and cause drug and alcohol testing
Preferred Qualifications
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Currently enrolled in a Technical School or pursuing a related Associate's program
* Some demonstrated experience in construction inspection
* Ability to interpret construction schedules
* OSHA 10 Hr Certification
* Strong people skills, ability to interact positively with the project team
* The ability to exercise deductive reasoning and independently resolve problems
* Department of Transportation technician testing certifications
* Ability to communicate proficiently through verbal and written correspondence
* Ability to navigate through outdoor construction sites by walking, navigating slopes, hills and other rough terrain or obstacles to facilitate completion of assigned tasks in all seasons and environmental conditions
* Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and navigate structures of varying heights
* Ability to lift and carry equipment necessary for performance of inspections and testing
* Skills to perform basic mathematical calculations in geometry and algebra
* Ability to work overtime, including nights and weekends

HDR is currently seeking a Site Civil Engineer for our Building Engineering Services Business Group located in Kansas CityMO, Springfield MO, or Saint Louis MO. Our team is an integrated facility and infrastructure design team consisting of core services of Mechanical, Electrical, Structural and Site Civil Engineering. This person will be responsible for the design of facilities-related sites in support of a variety of markets including Corporate/Commercial, Healthcare, Water/Wastewater, Municipal, Industrial, Federal and Mission Critical buildings and infrastructure. They will be expected to coordinate and work closely with a multidiscipline design team throughout the entire life cycle of projects from planning stages, through the development of construction documents, and construction administration. Experience in site development and the design of building related site civil (grading, utilities, storm drainage, stormwater management, and erosion control) is required. This individual should be self-motivated, collaborative and possess strong leadership skills with an initiative to deliver high quality, technically sound civil site designs. Primary Responsibilities
In the role of Site Civil Engineer, we'll count on you to:
* Design and plan production for general civil on a wide variety of projects, including site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and associated civil engineering activities
* Perform quantity calculations
* Prepare specifications and contract documents
* Conduct permitting with Jurisdictional Authorities
* Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures
* Function as Project Manager or Project Engineer as needed
* Oversee work of other professionals and technicians as needed
* Prepare/Review civil engineering scope of work and budgets/estimates for proposals
* Establish client relations and be involved with marketing, contractual, design and production meetings
* Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work effort with team to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed-to schedule
* Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
* Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm desired
* Ability to thrive in a team environment
* Ability to handle multiple assignments
* Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D or other applications (Navisworks, InfraWorks, MicroStation and OpenRoads)
* Ability to mentor and teach skills to others
* Advanced understanding of all discipline relations and site civil design
* Strong knowledge of storm modeling software such as Hydraflow Storm Sewers, Hydraflow Hydrographs, HydroCAD, StormCAD, SSA, Hecras, or similar software

Job Description
AECOM has an opening for an entry level Geologist in our Kansas City, MO office to assist with a variety of projects including data management, site investigations and remediation.
This position is expected to begin in February 2026.
The successful candidate will assist with gathering and analyzing geological, hydrogeological and geochemical data in both the field and office settings. The field activities will consist of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air and soil vapor sample collection, geological logging and interpretation, and the oversight of subcontractors including laboratories and excavation and drilling companies. The office activities will involve preparation of investigation reports.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Conducting environmental field work, including collecting soil, surface water, groundwater, and remediation system data; soil logging; and fluid level gauging.
Oversight of contractors conducting field surveys, drilling, well installation, development operations, and utility clearance for intrusive operations.
Participation in a health and safety team performing inspections, observations, and training.
Field document preparation, field data collection, processing, and interpretation.
Supporting office tasks, including data entry, data analysis, report preparation, and maintenance of a records archive system.
Collect and record data and compare results to relevant studies and state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
Travel to project locations including driving and overnight stays.
Candidate must also be able to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors. Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative. Field work will be required including oversight of subcontractors.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Chemistry or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Valid U.S. Driver's License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review and a substance abuse test.
Due to the nature of work, US citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Basic understanding of environmental regulations such as ASTM-1527-21, AAI, RCRA, TSCA, and SARA.
Ability to understand and supervise advancement of soil borings and installation of monitoring wells.
Ability to demonstrate a primary technical role in multiple site characterization, subsurface investigation, and remediation projects at various client sites.
Understand and assist with site conceptual models.
Collect and evaluate environmental data in field and office settings.
Prepare investigation reports and drawings.
Possesses technical report writing skills.
Independent field work and leadership of field teams.
Contractor oversight.
Selected candidate will be required to complete 40-hour HAZWOPER training or annual refresher class, if needed.
Selected Candidate will also receive First Aid/CPR training and AECOM specific training.
Learn and develop a keen understanding of hazard recognition, and environmental investigation or remediation.
Candidate must be proficient with basic computer programs; MS Word and MS Excel.
