Join us. **Job Description** **The AECOM Transit Design Manager (BRT) is a key role that will be based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and report into the US Mid-Atlantic Region Transportation Business Line. Other office locations that can be considered may include Philadelphia, PA; Conshohocken, PA; Mechanicsburg, PA; Newark, DE; and Morgantown, WV.** This person will have the opportunity to work on a diverse set of exciting transit projects nationally, taking on a project leadership role within our Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) design team. **The successful candidate may be asked to:** + Serve as an AECOM team lead, project manager and/or discipline lead on planning studies, preliminary design studies, and final design of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects, and will coordinate, cooperate, and work collaboratively with others team members as well as support business development. **The successful candidate will oversee multidisciplinary teams as they:** + Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids for BRT infrastructure. + Prepare and/or review multimodal street design + Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables. + Develop construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects. + Use expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E package. + Prepare technical specification sections. + Perform quality control review of design calculations or drawings. + Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements. + Coordinate tasks and provides leadership and mentorship to entry-level engineers. + Perform work in accordance with the agreed-upon budget and schedule with little supervision. + Work independently and with other team members to complete all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works. **Qualifications** **Minimum Requirements:** + Bachelor's degree in Engineering + 8 Years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education + Professional Engineering license + Proficient with AutoCAD/Civil 3D or Microstation/Power InRoads or Power GeoPak or OpenRoads Designer (ORD) + Roadway design experience + Bus Rapid Transit and / or Light Rail Transit (LRT) design experience + **Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required** **Preferred Qualifications:** + 10 Years of Relevant Experience in transportation design + 2 years in a similar leadership role is helpful + 5+ years in engineering project management roles + Ability to prepare engineering design reports and construction drawings for highway, roadway, transit, and/or rail. + Ability to collaborate and coordinate with design teams consisting of multi-discipline design engineers and technicians + Familiarity with local design standards as well as national BRT/LRT standards and best practices + Ability to interpret and utilize appropriate design standards + Good relationships with multiple transportation agency clients + Excellent communication and writing skills + Experience in leading business development efforts **Additional Information** + Relocation assistance is not available for this position. + Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position. Responsibilities: * Provide mid-level geology and hydrogeology input to projects. * Perform hydrogeologic investigations and remediation projects. * Assume lead technical role for projects and/or programs. * Evaluate hydrogeological data including temporal analyses of potentiometric flow and aquifer properties of systems (e.g. short- and long-term aquifer tests, slug tests, etc.). * Assume lead and supporting roles in proposals and marketing. * Perform field testing, sampling, and investigation work. * Direct field crews including subcontractors to meet the objectives of the project. * Other duties may be assigned. Education & Experience: * Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in a geosciences field required. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Coordinate all structural engineering technical aspects of pursuits and projects with other disciplines and in support of the Project/Design Manager. Ensure the structural design is completed in accordance with the contract guidelines and design documents. Establish structural scope, work plan and work schedule in support of the Project Manager. Lead all elements of conceptual, preliminary and detailed final design of new bridges and rehabilitation or reconstruction of existing bridges. Provide technical guidance and perform quality control reviews of design calculations, drawings and other contract documents. Prepare and/or guide the development of technical specifications and construction cost estimates. Manage groups of engineers, designers and/or specialists towards development of structural design documents and contract deliverables with minimal guidance or supervision. Preservation activities include multiple steel repair and bearing to truss connection retrofits, attachment of new bridge mounted sign structures, conceptual temporary joints and conceptual jacking scheme design, expansion joint replacement and beam seat, backwall and approach slab reconstruction, deck modifications including an ADA curb ramp, fence replacement, concrete repairs, and downspout replacement. Construction is anticipated to start in 2026. SR3007 and SR201 over I-70, PennDOT District 12, Westmoreland County, PA This project included the replacement of a three-span bridge carrying two lanes of SR 3007 over I-70 and the bridge preservation of a three-span through-girder bridge carrying SR 201 over I-70. The SR 3007 replacement structure is a single-span bridge utilizing prestressed bulb-tee beams, supported by full-height abutments. The abutment locations were strategically designed to accommodate future widening of I-70 and the beam depths were optimized to provide sufficient vertical clearance and minimize SR3007 profile adjustments. The SR 201 bridge preservation incorporated a new bearing and steel bolster system designed to increase the vertical clearance over I-70. Additional work included rebuild of abutment backwall, deck blockout, barrier and precast concrete approach slabs to accommodate the vertical profile shift. Construction was completed in 2023. Ongoing projects: Our structures group is currently working on multiple major bridge and bridge corridor replacement projects across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, including: SR 0070 Section K30, I-70 Corridor Improvements, Washington County, PA. Currently in preliminary engineering, this project includes safety improvements and total reconstruction of a 6.5-mile corridor of rural interstate. The project involves the replacement of ten mainline bridges and the rehabilitation or potential replacements of two overhead bridges, an additional two mainline bridges, and three culverts. The use of temporary bridges for maintenance of traffic during construction is being explored. Construction is anticipated to start in 2030. SR 0080 Brookville West, Jefferson County, PennDOT District 10-0 This is an interstate reconstruction project with the objective of widening Interstate 80 (I-81) near Brookville, PA. The project includes the replacement of three structures. Two structures span over I-80 and are proposed as two-span steel girder bridges with integral abutments and a wall pier. Once structure is a box culvert carrying Campbell Run under I-80. The project is currently in preliminary design. SR 0081 D46 Total Reconstruction, Lackawanna County, PennDOT District 4-0 This project involves the total reconstruction of approximately 4 miles of Interstate 81 (I-81) in Scranton, PA. The project includes the reconfiguration of two interchanges and widening of the highway to accommodate six lanes of traffic. The project involves the replacement of twenty-four bridges, the addition of twenty retaining walls, multiple sign structures and several sound barriers. Several structures involve the use of curved steel I-girders and the project includes a twenty-plus span steel viaduct structure carrying I-81 Northbound. The project is currently in design and is anticipated to be let in a single contract in 2027. This position is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to grow the Transportation Hydraulics Group through increasing market share with existing clients and diversification of the client base. The Transportation Hydraulics Senior Engineer/Project Manager will serve as Project Manager / Hydraulics Lead on key projects and will be administratively responsible for Transportation Hydraulics Group staff and technical service functions and may lead and coordinate hydraulics services with other business groups within the Pennsylvania/West Virginia Region. This leader will participate in recruitment and will train, develop, and manage personnel. The Transportation Hydraulics Senior Engineer/Project Manager will promote HDR through active engagement in professional organizations to increase industry visibility throughout the region. Coordinate with area client managers and marketing staff to identify projects and contract opportunities with existing and new clients and may directly coordinate with national business class leaders to leverage the full resources of HDR to expand service offerings and grow market share. Project Management duties will focus on projects related to state government, municipal, and local water resources clients. In the role of a Transportation Hydraulics Lead/Project Manager, we'll count on you to: * Direct and coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams (roadway, structural, traffic, utilities, ROW, environmental) involved in the project, coordinate with all subconsultants, coordinate with the client, keep project on schedule, keep project within budget, perform or ensure that quality control is accomplished for each project, supervise highway/roadway design team or teams, and perform more complicated design work on larger projects. * Responsible for all aspects of complex small to medium projects or routine large projects. * Perform project and task-level management, leading and directing technical staff, as well as hands-on project engineering for all phases on a wide variety of water resource projects. * Manage/lead/develop H&H modeling including 1D/2D hydraulic models to support planning and design of a wide range of flood and transportation hydraulic projects including stream rehabilitation and restoration, complex culverts and bridges, floodplain impacts, and other hydraulic structures, and stormwater collection systems. * Manage/lead/develop engineering design including plans, specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents for a diverse variety of water resources infrastructure. * Lead/develop preparation of technical and non-technical reports and presentations including visualization of data. * Assist with business development activities including client relations, marketing pursuits, and project proposals. More specific responsibilities include project and task-level management activities, as well as project engineering, design, and planning in the development and analysis of transportation hydraulic projects. Individual should be able to work independently as well as plan, organize, and assist groups of small to medium size teams of professionals and technicians. Successful candidates will be directly responsible for strategic clients, projects, and project staffing and must be able to work cooperatively with area business class leaders, section managers, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers. They will also be expected to develop and implement HDR's technology, standards, project delivery practices, equipment, tools, and associated training programs for the successful execution of project work.
