Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Freight Rail ProjectManager to join our Class I Railroad Team. supporting a large and established Public Improvements contract with more than 400 active tasks. This role is ideal for a motivated project professional who enjoys managing complexity, building strong client relationships, and working at the intersection of public transportation projects and freight rail operations. This role offers a hybrid work environment and can be based out Chicago, IL, Indianapolis, IN, Roanoke, VA, Columbus, OH, Oak Ridge, TN or St. Louis, MO.
In this position, you will partner closely with an experienced ProjectManager, a strong internal team of engineers and administrative staff, and public-sector stakeholders to support design review and construction monitoring for third-party projects impacting railroad infrastructure. You'll play a key role in coordinating with DOTs, designers, contractors, and railroad personnel-ensuring compliance, mitigating impacts, and keeping tasks moving efficiently from design through construction.
This role offers meaningful responsibility today, with a clear path to expanded projectmanagementleadership as you grow within AECOM's nationally recognized rail program.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
* Build relationships and communicate directly with client public project engineers.
* Coordinate with project sponsors (DOTs), designers, and contractors to address railroad-related concerns.
* Oversee tasks during preliminary design, including identifying railroad impacts, gathering client input, and communicating concerns to stakeholders.
* Guide tasks through construction by ensuring contractor compliance with railroad requirements, reviewing submissions, and mitigating impacts.
* Collaborate with local AECOM offices to engage support staff for field inspections and design reviews.
* Manage budgets and schedules for individual tasks.
* Assist the projectmanager with invoicing, data management, and client requests.
* Handle multiple tasks and large volumes of input data efficiently.
* Drive and implement process improvements.
* Communicate effectively, both written and verbally, across offices and states.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
* Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering design, Construction Inspection, or ProjectManagement + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
* Valid US Driver's License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
* As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review
* Willing to travel out of state for business development (4-6 times per year)
* Open to project site travel as needed
Preferred Qualifications
* Degree with a focus on Structural Engineering
* Previous projectmanagement experience
* 6 years' experience in the freight rail industry with Public Improvement Projects is preferred.
* Detail-oriented with past experience in review of project plans
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good time management skills, a strong work ethic, and a willing desire to learn

Your Role:

Our Ohio practice - anchored by large studios in **Columbus and Cleveland** - is one of the most established and highest-performing B+P practices in **AECOM'** s West Region. **What You'll Do**
You'll lead across two core areas: Client Development & Management and Team & Project Delivery - owning outcomes from pursuit through post-occupancy.
**Client Leadership (Seller-Doer)**
+ Serve as primary point of contact for clients, building trust and cultivating new relationships.
+ Lead pursuits (RFP/RFQ): shape win strategies, scope, team composition, fees, and terms & conditions.
+ Deliver assigned revenue growth through repeat business earned by exceptional execution.

**Project Delivery & Risk**
+ Lead interdisciplinary projects from conceptual studies through design and construction administration.

**Qualifications**
**Minimum Requirements:**
+ Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field + 8 years of relevant experience, or demonstrated equivalency of education/experience.
+ Valid driver's license.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ 10+ years of relevant experience.
+ Architectural licensure preferred; engineering licensure considered if architectural projectleadership experience is demonstrated.
+ PMP certification or equivalent is an advantage.

Job Description
The Water Division of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, Water Design-Build SeniorProjectManager. This position will be part of an exciting team employing the latest technologies to solve critical water supply, treatment, and infrastructure projects such as water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and conveyance systems throughout the United States. This is an opportunity to work on some of our nation's most pressing water infrastructure problems and contributing to AECOM's success as an industry leader in engineering and construction.
Frequent short-term travel up to 50% of the time may be required depending on project workload.
Job Responsibilities:
The SeniorProjectManager will be charged with responsibility to actively direct the performance of ongoing Design Build water and wastewater projects as well as take a leadership role in the development and capture of upcoming design build pursuits.
It is desirable that the DB SeniorProjectManager is capable of performing in both conceptual and detailed engineering and construction projectmanagement capacities. As a DB SeniorProjectManager the primary responsibilities will include managing the activities of a multi-discipline design through AECOM's design centers, as well as overall projectmanagement for procurement of process equipment and subcontractors, scheduling, VE or constructability reviews, familiarity with job cost reporting, and budget control activities through the life of the project, including EAC analysis during on-site construction as prime contracting entity. Demonstration of strong commercial and construction contract experience
Those Projectmanagers with either Design Build projectmanagement experience will be considered especially those with water/wastewater industry experience or those with experience in industrial (process) oriented construction fields.
Fiscal Experience
- Proven projectmanagement skills to delivery projects at or under budget and on schedule. Working knowledge of job accounting and reporting methods such as earned value and estimates to complete.
Team Oriented
- This position requires the skill set to directly oversee and manage detailed engineering and construction teams working collaboratively together to deliver the project.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil, Environmental, Sanitary, Chemical Engineering or related field and 10+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Valid Driver's license that allows you to drive during the course of your employment; subject to motor vehicle records review
Preferred Qualifications:
20+ years' experience in delivering engineering and construction projects in the water/wastewater industry delivered using progressive design-build, lump sum design-build, or CMAR project delivery methods
Good understanding of project delivery and ability to facilitate technical discussions when needed
Proven projectmanagement experience with ability to manage a diverse team
Demonstrated ability to negotiate, influence and manage risk
Demonstration of strong commercial and construction contract experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Travel to other offices/sites will be required
Experience managing D/B projects that are $30 Million or more
A DBIA certificate is preferred but not required
California P.E. license preferred
Experience in working with local and state regulatory agencies
Experience in managing both engineering and construction subcontractors
Proven ability to conduct competitive assessments and price to win analysis.

Minimum Requirements:

- During project initiation meet with Client & Fluor management to establish Core Team and Evaluate Project Opportunities & Complexitie
- The ProjectManager/Program Manager and Lead Area Planner will identify the construction staffing needs and gain alignment with the Site Manager
- The ProjectManager/Program Manager will then assign the proper Planners to support the project.
- Develop overall project sourcing and execution strategy with the core team and document these decisions in the project execution plan.
- Develop and execute sourcing plan & BVOA's for project.
- Maintain project schedule updates as required for the project with support from the project team.
- Aid with developing and submitting Construction turn over (CTO) packages.
- Ensure that the development of the conceptual scope of work during the FEE (Front End Engineering) stage is fully supported.
- Work with Fluor Planners and construction vendors to document all base scope blocks during Front End Planning that will be used as a basis for each vendors Target Value Estimate
- Organize & maintain the projects Win/Loss Metrics & insure they are documented in Fluor's O.C.S. (Operations Control System) with support from the assigned ProjectLead Planner
- Facilitate teams in setting up design review and release structures.
- On larger teams, work cluster groups may need to be developed to ensure information is received by all customers.
- Stay informed of engineering documents, vendor information and final design deliverables as needed from the client, design engineers and construction during all phases of the project.
- Work with the project execution team to develop and maintain accurate schedules using the Last Planner System
- During construction, the Lead Planner is accountable to lead weekly execution meeting activities but may require support from the ProjectManager/Program Manager
- Hold Project Closing Debriefs with Client & Trade Partners if requested/required.
**Basic Job Requirements**
- Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and two (2) years of work-related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to six (6) years if non-degreed; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements

The Transportation Hydraulics Senior Engineer/ProjectManager is responsible for providing leadership support in project delivery, business development, and growth of HDR's Transportation Hydraulics Group in the state of Ohio.
Primary duties include (1) assisting the Transportation Hydraulics Lead in the development of strategic planning (2) oversight of technical project delivery, (3) quality control, (4) staff development and morale, and (5) business development and marketing support. The Ohio Transportation Business Group is active in aviation, transit, freight rail, highway and local roads market sectors.
This position is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to grow the Transportation Hydraulics Group through increasing market share with existing clients and diversifying the client base.
* The Transportation Hydraulics Senior Engineer/ProjectManager will serve as ProjectManager / Hydraulics Lead on key projects. This leader will participate in training, developing, and managing personnel.
* The Transportation Hydraulics Senior Engineer/ProjectManager will promote HDR through active engagement in professional organizations to increase industry visibility throughout the region. They will coordinate with area client managers and marketing staff to identify projects and contract opportunities with existing and new clients. They may directly coordinate with national business class leaders to leverage the full resources of HDR to expand service offerings and grow market share.
* ProjectManagement duties will focus on projects related to state government, municipal, and local water resources clients. Our team focuses on hydrologic analyses, hydraulic modeling, and design for flood mitigation, stream restoration, and transportation drainage projects with opportunities to work on all project phases from program management to master planning, design, and construction. In the role of a Transportation Hydraulics Lead/ProjectManager, we'll count on you to:
* Direct and coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams (roadway, structural, traffic, utilities, ROW, environmental) involved in the project, coordinate with all subconsultants, coordinate with the client, keep project on schedule, keep project within budget, perform or ensure that quality control is accomplished for each project, supervise highway/roadway design team or teams, and perform more complicated design work on larger projects.
* Responsible for all aspects of complex small to medium projects or routine large projects.
* Perform project and task-level management, leading and directing technical staff, as well as hands-on project engineering for all phases on a wide variety of water resource projects.

Primary Responsibilities
HDR is currently in need of a ProjectManager to advance the planning, design and construction administration of water and wastewater facilities projects in Ohio. It is envisioned this candidate would have a mix of client development, projectmanagement, and project delivery responsibilities.
Candidates for this position should have experience directing project staff and will lead water/wastewater projects as a projectmanager.
