The El Paso Chihuahuas are a minor league baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL) and the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. They are located in El Paso, Texas, and play their home games at Southwest University Park, which opened in 2014. The team is looking for an Assistant Groundskeeper who will play a key role in the daily maintenance and management of the field at Southwest University Park.
JOB DUTIES
Ensure the playing surface is held to a professional standard.
Assist with all turf management aspects including mowing, irrigation, painting, chemical/fertilizer applications, disease control, and pest management.
Help manage inventory of grounds materials including ordering and tracking material usage.
Do regular field inspections to ensure the quality and safety of the playing field at all times.
Must understand irrigation and how to troubleshoot and adjust heads.
Ensure the safe and proper operation of all equipment. Making sure it remains safe, clean and in operable condition.
Assist in training of seasonal employees.

EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS
Required to work long hours standing and walking around during season and events.
Sitting, standing, walking, reaching with arms and hands, climbing, balancing, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, or crouching are all part of this position.
Must be able to handle weather related elements such as rain and heat.
Must have at least 2 to 3 years' experience in sports turf.
Must have an applicator's license or obtain one within 2 months of start date.
Sports Turf Management degree a plus.

Job Summary:
The Project SOAR Peer Mentors will assist in planning and delivering programming, and providing outreach within SOAR. Mentors can either be continuing Project SOAR participants in good academic standing or recently graduated Project SOAR participants. The mentors will serve as role models, campus resource experts, and trusted points of contact for TRIO students and staff. These individuals will possess the skills and knowledge to provide support in academic, social, and personal areas as needed. Peer Mentors will report to the Project SOAR Academic Coordinator for job duties, scheduling, etc.
Maintain consistent weekly office hours.
Contact logs will be turned into supervisor to show progress with students.
Attend as many SOAR sponsored events (orientation, workshops, field trips, as possible. This includes community events & campus visits. Help with set up, student coordination, clean up, etc.
Initiate and maintain contact monthly with students.
Notify students about all SOAR and campus events through text, email, phone call, social media, & other campus communication channels. Maintain main Project SOAR email inbox and resolve emails or pass along as necessary.
Maintain accurate records & perform data entry for contacts with students in the SOAR program.

You won't get any closer to the game than this, as you will be working in either the home or visiting team clubhouse and be on the field during games. You will work along with other Clubhouse Assistants, at the direction of the Clubhouse Manager, to provide exceptional clubhouse services to professional baseball players and staff prior to, during, and after games at Southwest University Park. The Chihuahuas take pride in being recognized as one of the premier Minor League affiliates for Baseball Operations and Clubhouse services. Our clubhouse staff is at the forefront of that recognition, providing Major League quality care for teams, umpires, equipment and front office personnel. This position reports to the Manager, Baseball Operations and to the daily supervision of both the Home and Visiting Clubhouse Managers.
Key Responsibilities:
Clubhouse Operations:
Assist in the daily clubhouse operations during the season, consistent with Player Development League (PDL) contract standards.
Assist in the set-up, organizing, and cleaning of the clubhouse to maintain a professional and comfortable environment.
Ensure that equipment, uniforms, and personal belongings are properly stored and maintained in players and staff lockers.
Assist in on-site laundry services for players' uniforms and other team gear.
Assist in preparing meal spreads and snacks for team personnel.

On-Field Duties:

Retrieve foul balls, bats and other equipment promptly that you are responsible for during the game. Assistant players with any additional equipment needs during the game.
Familiarize yourself with MLB and MiLB rules and regulations pertaining to bat boys/girls, and ensure compliance during games.
Be aware of the flow of the game and anticipate needs to ensure a smooth operation. Do not interrupt the flow of the game by doing such things, wait for the appropriate time to react.
Wear the team uniform provided on game days while on field, including a helmet, which is required to be worn at all times.
Equipment Management:
Ensure that players have the necessary equipment (bats, helmets, gloves, etc.) ready for use each game.
Rub baseballs on a daily basis for use in games.
Prepare the dugout and bullpens before games, making sure everything is in order. Keep the dugout area clean and organized during the game, and collect equipment and ensure the dugout is organized and clean after each game.
Help set up equipment as instructed for batting practice and pregame on-field workouts.
Assist on travel days with loading/unloading and packing/unpacking of equipment and team gear at the start and end of every series, either at Southwest University Park or airport.
Team Support:
Maintain a respectful and professional demeanor when interacting with players, coaches, umpires, and other team personnel.
Maintain confidentiality regarding team activities, discussions, and player interactions.
Be attentive to players' needs and assist them with any requests within the scope of this role.

Instructional Management
Serve as instructional leader of the school by maintaining an instructional focus that supports high academic expectations for all students.
Supervise, monitor, and evaluate instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities relate to program outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions.
Regularly consult the campus-level committee about planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of campus education program. Include students and community representatives when appropriate.
