Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Range Safety Engineer to join our team! In this role you will get to support the MDA Targets and Countermeasures Engineering Directorate providing assistance across the targets portfolio with flight termination system and range safety requirements development and verification, GFE and CFE hardware and software development, acceptance, qualification, integration, and checkout. You may also be called upon to support component failure investigations and review boards.
What You'll Be Doing:
Serve as Range Safety expert on behalf of the Targets Program office during Flight tests, Range Safety Working Groups, and functionality testing
Provide oversight of requirements development and allocation and verification for targets flight termination system products, including autonomous flight termination systems, and associated range safety Performance and/or oversight of GFE and CFE hardware and software development, acceptance, qualification, integration, and checkout
Provide summary and detailed level reports as necessary to document status, findings, and recommendations
Represent the interests of the customer in Working Groups, forums, and Technical Interchange Meetings
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
Master's degree and 12+ years working on missile defense-related or other complex, large DoD program or a Bachelor's degree and 20+ years working on missile defense-related or other complex, large DoD program
Active Secret clearance

**Job Summary:** This person will champion the safety aspects of all construction activities for capital projects at the plant site and be the primary contact for the reporting of any safety incidents.

The System Safety Engineer - Subject Matter Expert will support the space program located in Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, Alabama.
The selected candidate will be responsible for providing insight/oversight for contracted developments being provided to the Spacecraft / Payload Integration and Evolution (SPIE) office as well as performing Integrated Element Hazard Analyses (IEHAs) and documenting results in System Safety Analysis Reports (SSARs).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment & Presentation: Identify, analyze, classify (severity & likelihood), and formally present hazards and risks associated with integration of the Integrated Spacecraft & Payload Element (ISPE) into the SLS vehicle to SMA leadership, risk-accepting authorities, milestone reviews, Table-Top Safety Reviews (TTSRs), and flight readiness/certification forums.
Safety Requirements Compliance & Documentation Review: Prepare or assess System Safety Program Plans; review SLS program/contractor documentation (PWS, SRD, CEI, DRDs, verification procedures, etc.); assess proposed changes, Non-compliance Reports, and Waiver/Deviation requests to ensure full compliance with NASA Agency, Center, and Program safety requirements.
Trade Studies & Design/Operations Safety Input: Actively participate in trade studies for design, development, operations, and mission events on both in-house and contracted projects to ensure safety requirements are met, risks are identified/characterized, and appropriate mitigations are implemented.
Hazard Control Verification & Closure: Develop/assess verification plans and Detailed Verification Objectives (DVOs); generate or evaluate safety verification compliance data; track implementation and validation of hazard controls; confirm successful closure of verifications; and develop/present operational hazard control verification evidence to the Safety Verification Board.
Procedure & Operational Safety Review: Review test, checkout, and operating procedures for compliance with approved safety controls and verification requirements.
Tracking, Reporting & Deliverables: Track SSAR review comments and TTSR action items/agreements to closure; prepare and present safety status during COFR, SORR, FRR, and other program reviews; provide required SMASS contract deliverables (weekly/monthly activity reports, MSR/PEB inputs, DRDs, etc.).
Perform additional system safety engineering tasks as assigned in support of the SLS Vehicle Integration Branch and overall program safety posture.

WORK LOCATION:

Position Summary
The primary job function of a Safety Coordinator is to identify, eliminate, and control hazardous conditions that may lead to injury and or property damage using safety standards.

Requirements

* Bachelor's degree in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, or related sciences with 1+ years of relevant experience or Associate's degree or recognized safety certifications from an industry-recognized program with 5+ years of EHS-related experience;

Benefits

Conducts software system safety evaluations for DoD systems
Supports software system requirements identification and development process by evaluating and assessing planning, design, development, production and operations for DoD software systems architectures
Prepares and writes formal Systems Safety Hazard Analysis Reports to categorize and summarize all potential software-hardware interaction hazards
Performs software safety-critical and mission-critical systems analysis throughout the life cycle from initial requirements through design, implementation, testing, delivery, and support
Utilizes excellent written and oral communication skills to maintain successful daily interaction with customer and teammates

Required Qualifications:
ABET accredited STEM BS
Experience developing embedded mission critical software in C, C++, or ADA
Familiarity with software development/lifecycle IEEE 12207, MIL-STD-498
Experience with Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and/or Failure Mode, Effects & Critically Analysis (FMECA)
Working knowledge of MIL-HDBK-516, DO-178, MIL-STD-882, JSSSEH, AMCOM Regulation 385-17, SAE ARP 4761, or similar software safety standards
Knowledge of the integration and verification of large systems
Active Secret Clearance
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of static and dynamic code analysis
Experience with Model Based Software Development

This position is expected to be onsite. In this role you will get to facilitate the modeling, simulation, and analyses of future concepts that shape the future of the Missile Defense System (MDS) and respond to Warfighter needs. · Serve as Range Safety expert on behalf of the Targets Program office during Flight tests, Range Safety Working Groups, and functionality testing
· Provide oversight of requirements development and allocation and verification for targets flight termination system products, including autonomous flight termination systems, and associated range safety Performance and/or oversight of GFE and CFE hardware and software development, acceptance, qualification, integration, and checkout
· Provide summary and detailed level reports as necessary to document status, findings, and recommendations
· Represent the interests of the customer in Working Groups, forums, and Technical Interchange Meetings
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
· Master of Science in STEM 12+ years working on missile defense-related or other complex, large DoD program
· Active Secret clearance
· Works independently and/or leads teams to analyze and resolve problems
· Working knowledge of Range Safety Requirements
· Familiarity with flight safety analysis and analysis products
· Proficiency in Range Tracking Systems (inertial measurement, GPS, C-band tracking)
· Proficiency with RCC-319 Flight Termination Commonality Standard and RCC-324 Global Positioning and Inertial Measurements Range Safety Tracking Systems Commonality Standard
· Must be able to work in a dynamic environment and have the individual flexibility to work multiple actions simultaneously and resolve time sensitive issues
· Strong communication skills to include oral, written and briefing
Desired Qualifications
· Highly Desired - Familiarity with autonomous flight termination systems
· Flight Test Range Safety experience
· Background in batteries, RF systems, ordnance and ordnance devices, antennas.
· 10 + years of experience in defense and aerospace
Security Clearance Requirements:
Must have an active Secret Security Clearance
Education Requirements:
· Master's Degree in STEM Discipline
Other Requirements:
