Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern to be based in Denver, CO.
This position is expected to begin in Summer 2026.
Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands-on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional. Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning experience within their field of study.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
* Performs specific portions of a broader assignment under the mentoring of an experienced engineer.
* Prepares designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and working drawings.
* Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and judgment based on experience to design HVAC systems in buildings using building information modeling.
* Coordinate with other discipline Engineers as applicable for the continuity of the design process.
* Participate in design progress and coordination meetings.
* Assist with the design content by applying both design and technical knowledge to ensure high-quality outputs under project timelines.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
* Candidates must be pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering and must have completed at least one year of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor's degree and plan to continue with a master's degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor's degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
* Due to the nature of the work, U.S. citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Assist in the production of all phases of the design process.
* General knowledge in HVAC or MEP.
* With a background in Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer.
* Some Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit.
* Knowledgeable in the Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
* Well organized and possesses an innovative mindset.

This position will offer you the opportunity to work and lead others in a project team environment in the design, modification, and/or upgrade of new and existing power plant electrical systems.
Under the direction of the Electrical Project Lead, you will work with multi-disciplined engineering and design project teams in the development of the following:
* Cable schedules

* Conduct and junction box support design

You will produce electrical physical drawings, and review and incorporate vendor drawings into the overall project design.

Essential skills and experience:

Experience in the review of electrical physical layout drawings involving electrical equipment outlines and interface points.
Assist engineers with initial design requirements.
Produce physical construction layout drawings.
Extensive Microstation and/or AutoCAD design experience on power plants or large facility projects.
A thorough understanding of drafting and design practices and theories.
The ability to interface and communicate with engineering and design teams of other disciplines in the power plant design process.

AECOM is seeking an experienced Safety, Health, and Environmental Specialist III to join our Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Compliance team. This hybrid role can be based in our Denver or Fort Collins, CO offices.

Hold an MSCE in Civil Engineering, specializing in Water Resources, from an ABET Engineering program, with a solid academic foundation and relevant coursework.

Strong course work in hydrology and hydraulics.

+ This position will offer you the ability to directly apply your experience and knowledge of materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design to support creative, cost effective solutions for existing and new designs. Essential skills and experience:
+ This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (Master's in Civil Engineering preferred) with structural engineering emphasis from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program.
+ Ten or more years of working as a member of a project team environment in the design of non-commercial, heavy industrial plants, with a focus on the analysis of steel structures, concrete foundations and supports for new plants or modifications or replacements for existing plants. Experience must include the selection of structural materials and the review and preparation of specifications.
+ PE license required.
+ Experience in writing and providing support documentation for structural engineering calculations.
+ Technically knowledgeable of the practical application of structural engineering including analysis for structural supports, loads, and design integrity.
+ Experience with the design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models for industrial plants.
+ Proficiency with any of the following programs: MathCad, STAAD PRO, SAP2000, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS.
+ Familiarity with design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318.
+ Proficiency with MS Office applications.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ Knowledge of gas turbines and procurement of gas turbines for power generation is preferred.
+ Structural lead role for detailed design of simple cycle and/or combined cycle project(s) is preferred.
