Aggreko company history timeline

1962

Aggreko was founded in 1962 in the Netherlands.

1973

In 1973, Aggreko opened an office in Glasgow, Scotland, headed by David Yorke and Gordon Tourlamain.

1983

Founded in 1983, L&S had initially targeted the engine repair and maintenance market, before changing its own focus to equipment rentals.

1984

1984 Became a wholly-owned subsidiary of publicly traded Salvesen Group

1986

1986 Entered US market through acquisition of Electric Rental Systems Inc.

In 1986, the company introduced the first in a range of super-quiet generators.

1987

1987 Entered the temperature control rental business through the acquisition of Mobile Air and Pierce Industrial in the US

The company's new United States component, led by Gordon Tourlamain, began a rapid expansion drive, and, by the beginning of 1987, Aggreko had doubled its United States operations, with new facilities in Los Angeles, Texas, Alabama, Florida, and San Francisco.

1989

1989 Entry into the Asia Pacific region with acquisition of Yeow Kong Electrical Company in Singapore

1990

1990 Opened first permanent facility in Middle East

1990: The company acquires Generator Rentals Pty, in Australia.

1992

Aggreko then brought its new desiccant drying expertise to the United States, starting in 1992.

In 1992, the company won the contract to supply power to the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, as well as the Winter Games in Albertville, France.

1994

The company received the power generation contract for the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994, as well; yet the company's Spanish success proved short-lived and the company was forced to close its new Spanish depots by mid-decade.

1995

Unable to find its place in that market, however, Aggreko sold off that operation in 1995.

1995: The company launches oil-free air compressors in the North American market, later introducing these in Europe as well.

1999

In 1999, the importance of this branch of operations was highlighted by the creation of a new division, Aggreko International Power Projects (AIPP). The new entity was formed in order to be able to provide multi-megawatt temporary power facilities around the world.

In 1999, however, the company acquired L&S Industries Inc., based in Baltimore, Maryland.

2000

2000: The company acquires air compressor rental fleet from Ingersoll Rand.

2002

The announcement by General Electric that it was entering the power supply market at the beginning of the century--with the business expected to be online by 2002--sparked speculation that Aggreko might become GE's takeover target.

2004

2004 Established national and regional customer service centres for the US, UK, South and Central Europe

2010

2010 90 MW of power and temperature control at the Vancouver Winter Olympics

2011

On March 31, 2011, it acquired the business and assets of N.Z. Generator Hire Limited.

As of December 31, 2011, the Company served customers in about 100 countries and conducted its business from 165 service centres and offices, located in 39 countries.

2012

2012 Acquire Poit Energia in Brazil for GBP 140 million

2012 107.5 MW power project in Ressano Garcia, Mozambique

2021
