The San Luis Valley is unique in that it is one of the largest, high altitude (7,600 ft.), irrigated crop production areas in the United States. Position Summary
This position provides general labor and research farm support for the San Luis Valley Research Center. Responsibilities include: Research field maintenance (i.e., planting, irrigation, weed and pest control, general research plot upkeep), experimental crop planning and harvesting, and general maintenance and repair of the facilities, grounds and equipment.
Position Minimum Qualifications
- This is an entry-level position for individuals with less than 2 years of professional experience. High School Diploma or GED .
- Employees must provide documentation to their employers to show their identity and prove their authorization to work.
- Experience in safe and proficient operation of farm and other heavy machinery such as small engines, rototiller/weed eater or the ability to learn.
- Demonstrated communication skills and ability to understand both verbal and written instructions (English).
- Ability to meet the physical demands of this position, which include some heavy lifting (up to 100 lbs.) and will require manual dexterity, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching and handling.
- Ability to work in environmental conditions to include exposure to weather and noise. Hazards include: working in proximity to moving, mechanical parts and exposure to chemicals used in weed/pest control and fertilization.
- Ability to accommodate Flexible Work Arrangements ( FWA ) and to meet seasonal demands as well as varied work hours extending in night and/or weekend.
- Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner with or without direct supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience welding, general mechanic work and general facility maintenance.
- Experience working with large-scale irrigation systems.
- Experience in a research or compliance oriented environment.
- Working knowledge of agriculture crops relevant to the SLV .
- Commercial Driver's License or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
- Pesticide applicator's license or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.

Job Summary: ABLE is hiring a Supervising Attorney to lead a high-impact team providing legal advocacy and outreach for agricultural workers across the state (our Agricultural Workers Project (AWP) is part of our Agricultural Worker and Immigrant Rights Practice Group). Assist with daily livestock chores for small groups of animals

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Confirms that all nozzles are unplugged and in good operating condition.
Identify and reports any leaks or malfunctioning equipment.
Shall stop work: If a leak occurs, or equipment is damaged or malfunctions, if there is a change in conditions, or any new hazard is introduced.
Assists in flushing all hydro-blast components.
Assists in verifying that all shotguns, foot pedals and or other control devices are operational and safe.
Wear and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE.) This includes but not limited to respirators, skin, face, hand, and foot protection in a multiple number of combinations.
May periodically use computers for training purposes.
Ensures that tasks are performed safely with the highest level of quality.

JOB SUMMARY & KEY OBJECTIVES:
The CDL Farm Hand will provide support for a variety of seasonal and year-round transportation and general operation needs across our farming and compost facilities. This person will be responsible for hauling grain, water, manure, compost, seed, and other agricultural materials using a range of equipment, including semi trucks, dump trailers, straight trucks, and flatbeds.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Primary Driving and Hauling Responsibilities
Operate standard transmission vehicles
Haul grain from fields to the Farm during both small-grain and fall harvest periods
Fill and transport water using straight dump trucks fitted with tanks to and from tomato fields during planting season
Load and haul spray trailers (flatbed semi trailers with tanks) to support tomato crop growth and harvest ? Frequently “drop and hook” trailers during tomato season.
Load, transport, and dump manure from horse or dairy farms to our compost facility using dump trucks or semi truck and trailer combinations
Deliver compost from the compost facility to customer sites and farm fields using appropriate vehicles ? Haul grain to and from the Farm and various grain facilities, including unloading trailers (manual crank handle) ? Deliver palletized loads of seed or grain using van trailers, flatbed trucks, or pickup with flatbed trailers
Farm Equipment and General Support
Rotate vehicles and equipment to and from shops, performing maintenance and Department of Transportation (DOT) as needed
General support for all team members
Fleet Maintenance
Maintain stock of truck parts and consumables including fluid, bulbs, spare houses, etc. ? Schedule routine fleet maintenance and coordinate repairs with the Hirzel Transfer Fleet Manager as needed ? Schedule and Coordinate repairs with fleet manager
