Executive Assistant to the CEO
JOB SUMMARY
The Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer serves as the strategic and operational backbone of the CEO's Office. This role provides high-level administrative, project, and stakeholder support to the CEO, Board of Directors, and Executive Leadership Team (ELT). The ideal candidate is a skilled professional with exceptional judgment, the ability to navigate complex organizational dynamics, and the confidence to represent the CEO with professionalism and warmth.
This role requires a high degree of discretion, operational acumen, and the capability to manage sensitive matters involving senior executives, board members, city leadership, donors, and community partners. The Executive Assistant ensures the CEO's time, priorities, and communications are effectively aligned with the organization's mission and strategic goals.
EXECUTIVE SUPPORT FUNCTIONS - SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Executive Support
* Serve as the primary liaison for the CEO's Office, managing high-level internal and external communications with exceptional professionalism, discretion, and clarity.
* Oversee complex calendar management and prepare the CEO for meetings through briefings, talking points, presentations, and strategic background research.
* Map and manage CEO priorities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and maximizing efficiency for both the CEO and ELT.
* Maintain governance documents, bylaws, historical records, and confidential board materials.
Operational Coordination & Project Management
* Partner with the project management function to support organizational initiatives, cross-departmental alignment, and timely execution of deliverables.
* Develop and optimize processes, workflows, and communication systems that enhance operational efficiency across the CEO's Office and ELT.
* Provide research, reporting, and planning support for special initiatives and executive requests.
* Track action items and follow-through to ensure accountability at all levels.
Board and Executive Stakeholder Engagement
* Serve as a key ambassador for the CEO's Office in interactions with staff, board members, donors, civic leaders, and community partners.
* Prepare and manage logistics for Board of Directors and committee meetings, including scheduling, materials preparation, follow-up communications, and governance reporting.
* Support donor and partner engagement efforts with tact, diplomacy, and relationship-building skills.
* Produce accurate and timely internal and external communications, reports, and executive summaries.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
Education and Experience
* Post-secondary education and/or relevant training preferred.
* 5-7 years of progressively responsible administrative experience supporting C-suite executives, high-level civic officials, or senior leaders in complex organizations.
* Experience in supporting or coordinating with Boards of Directors, governance bodies, executives, or high-profile stakeholders is strongly preferred.
* Experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations is a plus but not required.

Butterfly Exhibit Specialist/Lepidopterist (Temporary)
JOB SUMMARY
This is an entry-level position responsible for advancing the Dallas Zoo's mission by facilitating experiential learning opportunities in a temporary butterfly habitat. Lepidopterists will actively engage guests and program participants through educational programming that inspires and empowers audiences to Create a Better World for Animals. Lepidopterists must be comfortable handling butterflies throughout their entire life cycle and interpreting topics relevant to the Zoo and wildlife conservation, as they relate to butterflies, to a wide variety of audiences on the Dallas Zoo campus.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Provide overall daily care of butterflies and exhibits to ensure animal health, safety, and welfare, staff and public safety as set forth by AZA, USDA, and DZM to include:
* Observe and monitor butterflies' general health and behavior, reporting any abnormal behavior to supervisor and/or veterinary staff.
* Prepare and provide food for butterflies, following written instructions, provide water and administer medication as instructed to ensure proper nutrition and health;
* Clean animal exhibits, butterfly food stations and equipment, maintaining a high level of sanitation, conducting pest control activities and reporting any mechanical defects that would endanger the animal, zoo staff, and/or guests;
* Provide care for butterflies throughout their life cycle, including chrysalis handling, butterfly releasing, and clean-up of expired butterflies.

* Proactively engage audiences through mission-driven experiences that inspire and empower audiences to take part in conservation actions on behalf of wildlife:
* Reinforce and encourage interest in wildlife through age-appropriate, developmentally appropriate, positive engagement with guests via programming;
* Actively inspire and empower audiences to develop an interest in and empathy for wildlife through positive and engaging interactions via experiential education programming focused on Dallas Zoo conservation priorities;

Senior Hospital Zoologist
JOB SUMMARY
This is a senior-level position in animal health, following established protocols to provide outstanding animal care for species in the section: food preparation, feeding, exhibit maintenance, pest control, and reproductive management. JOB SUMMARY

This position serves as the lead for a team of technicians, providing daily direction, technical guidance, and training to ensure the efficient operation of life support systems (LSS) that maintain aquatic animal health and habitat integrity.
In a hands-on capacity, this role applies technical knowledge to maintain, repair, and troubleshoot complex life support systems. In close collaboration with animal care, maintenance, and safety professionals, this role is critical to proactively addressing operational challenges and implementing preventative maintenance programs, in accordance with the Zoo's broader operational and animal welfare goals.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Lead, mentor, and coordinate the work of LSS and water quality technicians, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to established standards.
* Assign daily work schedules, monitor progress, and ensure proper documentation of maintenance activities and water chemistry results.
* Perform daily water quality testing (e.g., pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, chlorine) and ensure appropriate chemical levels across all pools and water features.
* Operate and inspect pumps, filters, UV sterilizers, ozone systems, and automated dosing/control systems.
* Oversee corrective repairs on mechanical systems, plumbing, and electrical components related to aquatic systems.

Assistant Supervisor - Butterflies
JOB SUMMARY
This is a "working" supervisory position in Education, working closely with the Assistant Director, Education, covering daily routines as assigned, providing exceptional care to butterflies, and helping to advance the Zoo's educational mission. The Assistant Supervisor - Butterflies assists in the daily operation of the department, management of butterfly husbandry programs, and maintenance of associated butterfly facilities. The Assistant Supervisor - Butterflies will serve as primary contact and liaison for the butterfly section in the absence of the Assistant Director, Education, and provide leadership to lepidopterists. Duties will also include assisting with supervision and providing feedback to the lepidopterist team and working closely and effectively with various departments to achieve the best experience for visitors, volunteers, and staff. This is a full-time, temporary position.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Organize and coordinate butterfly section's daily activities, overseeing lepidopterists, and delegating tasks per Assistant Director, Education's direction;
* Lead by example: maintain familiarity with all aspects of husbandry and guest engagement routines, assisting when needed;
* Assist in the hiring of, then train, lepidopterists in all aspects of husbandry (diet preparation, feeding, cleaning, and maintenance of exhibit) and education (communicating guest conduct policies, butterfly life cycle, and butterfly conservation);
* Provide overall daily care of butterflies and exhibits to ensure animal health, safety, and wellbeing, staff and public safety as set forth by AZA, USDA, and DZM;

Qualifications:

* Must be 18 years of age or older
* Must have one year of zoo keeping experience, elephant zoo keeping experience preferred
* Valid driver license with acceptable motor vehicle record to maintain zoo standards of insurability
* Proof of negative tuberculosis (TB) screening within previous six months prior to placement and annually thereafter
Must possess ability to:
* Work independently in the absence of immediate supervision
* Understand and follow oral and written instructions
* Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

Education and/or Experience:
* High School diploma or equivalent
* Bachelors degree in wildlife management, zoology, animal behavior, biology, ecology, psychology or related field preferred
* Specialized training in zoology or a related field desirable but not required

Temporary Mammal Keeper To maintain and care for a variety of animals within the Zoo; to assist veterinary staff as needed; and to perform a variety of activities relative to the assigned area of responsibility. Positions at this level are initially expected to perform under immediate supervision, progressing to general supervision as knowledge operating of procedures is gained. This position is for 400 hours of work generally in the form of 10 weeks, 40-hour weeks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Feed and water animals in and around existing quarters; clean, sanitize, maintain, and repair animal quarters as required; sweep, dust, and mop floors
* Prepare diets for animals; clean and maintain work area and food storage containers
* Maintain adequate records on daily activities; observe animal behavior for signs of illness, weight loss/gain or injury; report any signs of illness or injury; assist veterinarians in minor operations or related activity as needed
* Assist in the training of assigned animals, guide animals through daily routines according to established training schedules and guidelines
* Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner
* Care for new and quarantined animals when required; obtain and submit fecal samples as needed
