S/he is responsible for assistant the teacher in the planning, coordinating, and supervision of the classroom educational program. The Teacher Assistant interacts regularly with other educational and residential team members in matters related to the educational program. Essential Functions: Assisting the teacher with maintaining a classroom environment conducive to effective learning. Assisting with duties that require movement of students. Provide direct instruction to students under direct supervision of teacher, in Spanish and/or English. Conduct instructional exercises and implement specialized interventions and strategies for new students assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups. Assist in classroom management. Provide translation from English to Spanish, vice versa Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays as needed. Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments. Help maintain neat and orderly classroom. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of agency equipment and instructional resources. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers as needed. Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance. Participate in departmental meetings and special events as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Education and Experience: Bachelors Degree 1-2 years working with children in a group home setting. Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish (verbal/written). Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics. Ability to work well with culturally diverse children. Extra-Help Position: Extra-help unclassified, non-regular positions classified as Public Service Employees (PSE).
