The Direct Care Specialist will provide and assistance in nursing and therapeutic care as well as recreational and personal activities for disabled and developmentally challenged pediatric patients from birth to 21 on dayshift from 7:00am to 3:00pm. Salary: $20.00 per hour. The ideal candidate is dependable, compassionate, punctual, and enjoys helping others. This person must be reliable, empathetic, and be able to work with children. Responsibilities: Patient care - Instill confidence and trust in patients in a competent and caring manner. Provide hygiene and daily living assistance to include toileting, bathing, assisting patients with showers, assisting with meal time, and accompanying patient to the on-site school, medical and therapeutic appointments, and community outings. Responsible for maintaining patients living areas to include straightening up patient bedrooms, strip bed linen, completing laundry assignments, meal prep and clean up; sweeping and mopping as needed, cleaning patient equipment, and picking up and storing all play equipment and supplies used in the hospital unit. Medical needs - Responsible for knowing the patient care plans and behavioral plans, assisting the nurse with medical treatments, provides support during therapies, school, and medical appointments. Follows the patient's schedule to ensure patient goals are completed. Works with the therapeutic team in achieving a positive outcome for long term goals. Completes documentation in the electronic health record. Reports any concerns to the nurse. Professional development - Maintain any specialized training and, if applicable, perform additional and specialized tasks pertinent to the assigned patient or area. Patient are admitted for a 30-day evaluation during which they are assigned a treatment team consisting of nursing unit, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutritional services, social services, psychological services, behavioral analysis, and recreational therapy. Our 80-acres campus includes an on-site elementary, intermediate, and high school which is staffed by Norman Public School teachers. Patients may continue treatment needs beyond the 30-days as an in-patient in habilitation status based upon progress or placement needs. J.D. The Certified Medication Aide reports to the Staff Nurse. Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Staff Nurse, The Certified Medication Aide administers medications as prescribed by the resident's physician and documents the administration, the medication effectiveness and any noted adverse actions or side effects of the medications in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the facility, current standards of practice and care and applicable state/federal regulations. Physical Requirements: This job requires excellent physical and mental health. The CMA must possess manual dexterity to handle delicate instruments and other equipment and the ability to observe and report changes in a resident's clinical condition to the Staff Nurse. The CMA must be able to obtain and record the resident's temperature, pulse, respiration rate and blood pressure. The CMA must be able to lift, stoop, carry, turn, and assist high-risk residents, push medication carts and be willing and able to work a flexible work schedule. Must be able to lift, push, and carry 40 pounds with 2 hands. Must also be able to lift, push, and carry 20 pounds with 1 hand. The CMA must be able to sit, stand, bend and move frequently during work hours. Qualifications/Education: This employee must have successfully completed course work and examinations to obtain certification as both Certified Nurse Assistant and Certified Medication Aide. The CMA must obtain continuing education credits as required by the state to maintain certification as a CMA and must provide evidence of continued certification to the facility in a timely and accurate manner. Candidate must demonstrate a moderate level of computer literacy in order to use and access our systems and tools within our facilities to complete online tasks and documentation. Must be able to effectively communicate and interact professionally with staff and residents. Job Knowledge The CMA must possess knowledge of safe medication administration technique and demonstrate this knowledge with a medication error rate of 5% or below. The CMA must familiarize him/herself with the facility's policies and procedures and demonstrate this knowledge during the performance of their duties. The CMA must recognize complications, adverse actions or side effects of medications and obtain input from the Staff Nurse as indicated to ensure the optimum health and safety of the resident. The CMA must understand and practice resident confidentiality. Duties: Understands and agrees with the facility philosophy and goal to maintain, improve and/or enhance each resident's quality of care and quality of life. Administers and accurately records the administration of medications for residents as prescribed by the physician in accordance with established policies and procedures of the facility and applicable state/federal regulations. Observes, records and reports to the Staff Nurse symptoms and conditions of residents that could be related to medication interactions, adverse drug reactions or medication side effects. Determines and records effectiveness of medications in a timely and accurate manner as required by state and federal regulations. Stores medications in a safe and accurate manner in accordance with established policies and procedures of the facility and applicable state/federal regulations. The administration of medications shall be in accordance with established nursing standards, policies, procedures and practices of this facility and the requirements of the state. We are hiring following position: CMA Duties and Responsibilities Administrative Functions Follow the policies and procedures of the facility governing the administration of medications to residents. Report errors in the administration of medications; complete medication administration error report as appropriate. Participate and cooperate with any facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by the Administrator or the Director of Nursing. Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, charts, reports, etc., and submit these as required. Committee Functions Attend and participate in care plan meetings as necessary. Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) programs, the Pharmaceutical Services Committee and any other facility committee or program that involves the medication administration process. Medication Administration Functions Accurately and safely prepare and administer medications that are ordered by a licensed practitioner. Measure, document and report vital signs according to facility policies. Observe resident to detect response to medications and prepare report or notify designated personnel of unexpected reactions in accordance with facility policies. Record and restock medication inventories, process discontinued medication as directed by the Director of Nursing in accordance with facility policies. Be familiar with commonly administered medications including their use, typical dosages and significant side effects or interactions. Duties and Responsibilities Be familiar with common medical abbreviations, symbols and terms relative to the administration of medications as used by the facility, pharmacists and physicians. Follow established guidelines concerning the storage of drugs and biologicals. Follow facility procedures governing medication receipt errors including notifying the delivery source and the Director of Nursing. Follow the facility's procedures regarding resident self-administration of medications. Follow the labeling policies and practices of the facility. Follow the medication card practices of the facility. Observe and verify that medication is taken or applied as directed; document any instance where prescribed medication is not administered or taken. Participate in the development and implementation of the resident's comprehensive assessment as necessary. Promptly notify the Charge Nurse/Nurse Supervisor or the Director of Nursing of any errors or reactions to medications by residents. Staff Development Functions Attend continuing education programs as needed. Attend and participate in orientation programs as necessary. Attend annual in-service training programs as scheduled (e.g., Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), tuberculosis (TB), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), abuse prevention, safety, infection prevention and control, etc.). Participate in an in-service training program prior to performing tasks that involve potential exposure to blood or body fluids. Working Conditions Works in office areas as well as throughout the nursing services area (i.e., drug rooms, nurses' stations, resident rooms, etc.). Moves intermittently during working hours.
