Fremont County School District No. 25 Riverton, Wyoming BUS AIDE Reports to: Transportation Supervisor Supervises: None REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent Active WY Driver's License Active CPR/First Aid Certification Willingness and ability to assist handicapped students board and depart the bus ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: None POSITION SUMMARY Assisting education students while they are being transported to and from school; and providing a consistent environment, discipline and guidance for the students while they are on the bus. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Adhere to Bus Aide standard operating procedures. Assist Bus Driver in maintaining the interior cleanliness of the bus for the purpose of maintaining appearance, sanitation and safety of vehicle. Assist in conducting emergency evacuation drills for the purpose of ensuring efficiency of procedures and complying with mandated requirements. Assist students (e.g. tying shoes, hats, coats, personal hygiene, etc.) for the purpose of providing for their needs during transport, safe loading and unloading from buses including both emergency situations and normal transport. Attend meetings (e.g. training, in-service, discipline meetings, conferences, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions. Communicate with parents, teachers, bus drivers or administration regarding behavior issues, activities, special pickup/drop-off schedules, etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or receiving information. Inform students of bus safety and requirements for the purpose of enforcing rules and regulations and providing positive discipline and guidance for students. Lift students and/or equipment (e.g. bus lifts, wheel chairs, restraints, etc.) for the purpose of positioning or repositioning students as appropriate. Monitor student behavior for the purpose of diffusing situations and/or preventing distraction to the driver or injury to themselves or other students/passengers. Prepare written materials for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information. Report observations and incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel. Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of addressing immediate safety concerns. Secure students and/or equipment (e.g. wheelchairs, car seats, restraints, seat belts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of students. Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment. Other duties as assigned. TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS Ability to adhere to safety practices; and utilize restraints and assistive equipment. Knowledge of safety practices, procedures, and approved procedures/techniques involved in supervising students. Ability to maintain confidentiality; Must be flexible with a wide diversity of individuals Ability to communicate with children with diverse disabilities Develops relationships with students while demonstrating and/or modeling appropriate behavior. Operates within a defined budget Possesses strong oral and written communication skills Works independently with little direct supervision Works as part of a team Accepts responsibility and is self-motivated Demonstrates strong work ethic to achieve District goals Displays effective multitasking and time management skills LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies and regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine correspondence. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee may be required to lift, carry, push, and/or pull various pieces of equipment. The employee may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. The employee will have some significant climbing and balancing required. Significant fine finger dexterity is preferred. Generally the job requires 70% sitting, 15% walking, and 15% standing. The job is performed under moderate temperature variations and some hazardous conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. EVALUATION Performance on this job will be evaluated by the Transportation Supervisor in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of certified or classified personnel. SALARY SCHEDULE This position will be paid according to the approved Classified Student Support Wage Schedule. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Student School Schedule +5 days, unless otherwise assigned by supervisor.
