Air Force Civilian Service company history timeline

1948

The Air Force announces a policy of racial integration – the first service to do so – well before President Harry Truman’s Executive Order on equal opportunity in July 1948.

1958

It is home to New Mexico State University at Alamogordo, a two-year community college established in 1958.

1959

The Academy's stated mission is "to educate, train, and inspire men and women to become officers of character, motivated to lead the United States Air Force in service to our nation.” It is the youngest of the five United States service academies, having graduated its first class in 1959.

1972

The host unit at Mountain Home since 1972 has been the 366th Fighter Wing of the Air Combat Command.

2002

In 2002 Brooks Air Force Base was renamed Brooks City-Base when the property was conveyed to the Brooks Development Authority as part of a unique project among local, state, and federal governments.

2009

On October 1, 2009, McGuire officially became part of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

2010

The joint base was established on February 1, 2010 from the merger of two previously separate but geographically contiguous military bases: the Army's Fort Lewis and the Air Force's McChord Air Force Base.

Minot, known as the "Magic City," was named by Departures Magazine to be the best place to raise a family in 2010.

2011

Formerly named Pope Air Force Base, on March 1, 2011, as part of the BRAC reorganization, it became part of Fort Bragg, NC and assumed the name it held before becoming a United States Air Force base, Pope Field.

2012

The 28th BW is home to 28 B-1B Lancers, and in 2012 will begin flying MQ-9 Reaper missions.

2016
