Air Force One company history timeline

1990

The current “flying Oval Office,” which has been in service since 1990, now has 4,000 square feet of interior floor space, state-of-the-art navigation, electronic and communications equipment and front and aft airstairs.2 Among its accommodations for the president and their guests are:

1991

Designated VC-25A by the Air Force, these iconic blue and white aircraft have been carrying the President and their entourage since 1991, serving the administrations of George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump and, at present, Joe Biden.

Since 1991 two such aircraft have been in service: identical Boeing 747-200B jumbo jets bearing the tail numbers 28000 and 29000 and the Air Force designation VC-25A.

1998

Kennedy also used a modified long haul 707 Stratoliner during his presidency which remained in service until 1998.

2001

President Reagan was the last to use a 707 as his primary Air Force One, though SAM 27000 continued to fly on occasion before being formally decommissioned after taking President George W. Bush from San Antonio to Waco in 2001.

2021

The first was used for presidential service in March 2021.
