Uses structural engineering tools and implements appropriate standards to design Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures including post-processing analytical results and designing structures for various material types (concrete, steel, etc). Interfaces with NuScale Licensing in support of domestic and international regulatory efforts. Interacts with other disciplines and structural engineering consultants in an effort to allow effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should possess or acquire general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams. Provides guidance and mentoring to other staff members in support of the team's technical activities. Develops and reviews requirements documents, methodology documents, design reports, and studies. Possess strong written and oral communication skills and routinely interacts with contractors and/or regulatory bodies. Interacts with co-workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. A registered professional engineer license (P.E.) is strongly preferred. Experience: Minimum of 12 years of full-time, highly relevant experience as a Structural Design Engineer is required. Extensive use and understanding of ANSYS is required. Must have in-depth understanding of engineering concepts, principles, theories, strong technical writing skills as well as good communication, computer, presentation and interpersonal skills. Exceptional organization and time management skills and ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases is required. Additional experience in the following areas: Design and analysis of structures, including concrete and steel, use of design software and finite element method analyses. Working with the following codes preferred: ASCE 43, ASCE 4, ACI 349 & 318, ASCE 7, IBC, and AISC N690, Steel Construction Manual and Seismic Design Manual. Computer programing skills (e.g. Matlab, or Python) is not required, but preferred. Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.     As a Civil Engineer, you will lead and collaborate with a team while also taking ownership of tasks across a variety of engineering projects including roadway design, construction plan development, specifications, and construction administration. You'll also handle site civil design, basic utility design (such as water and sewer), and general drainage design. Your work will involve using various engineering software programs and Microsoft Office applications. The Civil Engineer will be a champion and leader of our company's core values while maintaining internal and external customer engagement and satisfaction. Some responsibilities include: Technical/Project * Plan, design, and implement municipal projects such as roadway design and expansion, site civil design, and utility infrastructure projects. * Analyze engineering data and prepare calculations, drawings, reports, field observations, and required applications to regulatory agencies. * Manage projects and coordinate with the engineering team and clients on all aspects of project execution. * Review and seal your projects and those of others as needed. Customer Management & External Communication * Manage customer relationships, serving as a point of contact for proposals, presentations, and technical issues. * Ensure new and existing customers receive the highest level of service. * Communicate with municipalities and government agencies for regulatory permits and other project requirements. * Engage with contractors, cities/districts, regulatory agencies and funding agencies on project-related matters. * Attend public meetings, forums and open-house events to discuss project details and answer questions from the public. * Participate in district, town and city meetings as needed. Leadership * Generate and review complete construction plans and specifications. * Provide guidance, coaching, and mentoring to junior engineers and staff. Job Requirements * Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from an accredited engineering curriculum with major concentration in Civil Engineering and at least 4 years of professional experience is required. * Municipal Engineering experience is a plus. * Must have LA PE licensure or the ability to obtain it within 6 months of hire date.
