Air Tahiti Nui company history timeline

1998

In November 1998, Air Tahiti Nui commenced flight operations.

2001

Meanwhile, the three-class A340-300 had spent its first four months at Canada 3000 Airlines, having joined this carrier in September 2001.

2002

In December 2002, Air Tahiti Nui doubled its fleet of A340-300s to four, which allowed for the rapid expansion of the key Papeete-Los Angeles-Paris route.

At the beginning of 2002, Air Tahiti Nui added two A340-300 aircraft to its fleet.

2005

After just under two years at Air Bourbon, F-OITN then joined Spanish carrier Air Europa in April 2005.

2007

It then had a brief period of ownership at Airbus Financial Services, before joining Conviasa in March 2007.

2011

After years running a deficit, Air Tahiti Nui faced possible bankruptcy in 2011.

2012

In August 2012, Air Tahiti Nui added another oneworld partner as a codeshare partner.

2013

In 2013, Air Tahiti Nui launched its new cabin configuration and entertainment system on board its fleet.

2015

In May 2015, Air Tahiti Nui announced its intention to replace its entire fleet, then consisting of five Airbus A340-300 aircraft.

After four years of deficit, the company started making profits again in 2015.

2016

In 2016, Air Tahiti Nui’s results were positive for the fifth consecutive year, with a 1.4% passenger growth.

2017

In 2017, Air Tahiti Nui and American Airlines expanded their codeshare agreement to include new routes from Canada, Toronto and Vancouver, to Tahiti.

2018

In April 2018, Air Tahiti Nui presented its new brand and logo.

In April 2018, in anticipation of its new fleet of Boeing 787-9s, Air Tahiti Nui launched its redesigned brandmark and updated typography.

The Tahitian Dreamliners 787-9 of Air Tahiti Nui have been in service since November 2018.

The new aircraft, which will replace Air Tahiti Nui’s five A340-300s, are scheduled to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2018 when the airline celebrates its 20th-anniversary.

2019

Our fleet, entirely renewed in 2019, is composed of Boeing 787-9s, our "Tahitian Dreamliners". Air Tahiti Nui provides service to Tahiti from Paris, Los Angeles, Auckland and Tokyo.

2020

Air Tahiti Nui's record was later eclipsed by French Bee in May 2020, which operated its own flight from Papeete to Paris, but to Orly Airport, covering a great-circle distance of 15,728 kilometres (9,773 mi).
