Aircraft assembler job description

• Variable Shifts, 1st, 2nd, 3rd as needed; must be available to work any shift assigned

• Performs routine production assembly operations on structural and mechanical assemblies, subassemblies and aircraft systems, equipment and accessories using manual operations

• Ability to select correct parts, materials, tools, assemblies, standards, hardware, etc

drill, shim, install, fit, fasten, align, adjust and perform the necessary pre-installation assembly work to accomplish the installation of structural components requiring the use of production and engineering prints to determine exact locations

• Report job constraints such as: errors caused by workmanship, defects in parts, materials, assembly procedures, tools, sequences, etc., in accordance with Boeing procedures

• Perform any repairs, rework, functional checks and the incorporation of authorized changes, etc., as outlined by Lead

• Remove and/or replace installed components and any related parts

• Must be able but not limited to Drill close tolerance holes in composites, Tool indexing, Gap measurement

MINIMUM:
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Basic computer skills
• Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
• Must have ability to read and comprehend blueprints, work instructions, and other technical data
• Must possess good interpersonal skills with strong desire to work in a teamwork environment
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, work instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in various units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

PREFERRED:
Candidates with at least three (3) years work experience in a complex assembly environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Subject to continual loud noises
• Visual acuity must be a minimum of 20 / 40 corrected
• Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, stand for prolonged periods of time; climb steps, ladders and / or service stands
• Must be able to safely work around hazardous chemicals, solvents, resins and adhesives

+ Performs a variety of operations to manufacture, assemble and/or refurbish aircraft parts and structures such as F-16 canopies, F-35 canopies, and C-130 sub-assembly components.
+ Assemblies can require controlled tooling as well as build to print.

+ Tasks include aligning parts on jigs using both templates and fixtures. Performs part-fitting operations such as minor filing, sawing, burring, crimping, trimming, framing, drilling, reaming, riveting, countersinking, and cold working. Measures parts with a variety of methods to verify dimensions.

+ May modify incomplete and complete assemblies to incorporate changes and perform repairs.

+ Works from blueprint diagrams, drawings, specifications, and shop orders. Monitors and verifies quality and develops corrective action.

+ Performs other duties as assigned.

+ No relocation assistance provided.

**Additional Skills & Qualifications:**

• 1 - 2 years of sheet metal assembly/aircraft sheet metal structure experience is required.

• Previous experience as an Assembler and/or Aircraft Structures Mechanic is highly preferred.

• Previous aircraft structure on the F-16, C-130, and F-35 is highly preferred.

• Interpersonal skills and ability to interface with all levels, to work in teams or independently and communicate effectively with co-workers or supervisory staff.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Mathematical ability to perform and/or understand the calculations used in assigned areas and ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications and technical data.

• Competently uses computers and other systems to access, maintain and manipulate data.

**Shift:**

Monday - Thursday

6am - 430pm (10 hour days) or 4-10s

Fridays off

Have the opportunity to work up to 60 hours on Friday and Saturday but that is optional and not mandated.

Summary: The Company will provide appropriate assistance in job training to enable employees to perform all necessary job functions including the following:

• Work with blueprints, changes, specifications, work orders, etc. to assemble and install to quality requirements parts and assemblies.
• Complete required data gathering transactions to facilitate assembly progression.
• Setup and perform all manual and automated assembly operations, and portable machine functions required to accomplish assignments.
• Perform any and all required pickup, rework, fabrication, change incorporation, functional testing or check during or after final assembly and/or assembly progression.
• Move and/or obtain correct parts, materials, tools, assemblies, etc.
• Use precision measuring instruments required to accomplish work assignments.
• Report and/or investigate job handicaps such as: errors in parts, assembly procedures, tools, sequences, etc.
• Perform routine minor machine maintenance as part of their daily work duties (e.g., where applicable, replacing machine filters, changing standard light bulbs on machines and equipment, maintaining lubrication/coolant levels, etc. as related to basic Total Preventative Maintenance duties).
• Routinely move product within the immediate manufacturing work area, including across isle, using shop assigned equipment as required, and complete transactions necessary to move product to the next operation. On an exception basis, move product to the next operation within a building.
• Support the continuous flow of product within the manufacturing process by training, coaching and assisting employees of all classification levels.
• Document any discrepancies according to specification, process, and procedure.
• Cross trains in inspection and becomes SIA qualified
• In addition, each employee may be asked, on occasion, to complete other duties and responsibilities as required by Spirit leadership. Training and certification will be provided for the additional work when required.

Desired Skills:

• Verifies dimensions of parts using both mechanical and electronic measurement tools and, relative to these inspection duties, initiate and document corrective action for programming issues and other problems.

• Pressure and vacuum testing
• Provide high-level technical support and leadership relative to assembly and installation
• Setup and operate conventional and/or Computerized Numerical Controlled (CNC) and fastening equipment of less than simultaneous 3-axis movement.
• Activities include, e.g. drivematic processes, etc., or the employee must have the skill and knowledge to perform in one or more of the specialties listed below:
• Assembly/Installation of Structures
• Seale
• Sub Assembly
• Additionally, the employee must have the skill and knowledge to perform one or more of the specialty skills listed below:
• Assembly/Installation Doors
• Precision Bench Assembly
• Pressure and Vacuum testing
• Drill
• Seal
• Insert fasteners
• Varnish
• Paint
• Counter sink
• Maintain required personal certifications.
• Perform complete inspection, including first part review, of procured or fabricated parts and assemblies.
• Initiate and document any non-conforming condition for Material Review Board action.
• Perform process surveillance to assure compliance with requirements.
• Prepare and maintain quality records.
