Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:
* Perform inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on aircraft to include periodic, phase, hourly, preflight, postflight, calendar, thru-flight, and special inspections such as fuel contamination, emergency equipment, and oil sampling.
* Inspect and perform functional checks such as landing gear retraction and operation checks on hydraulic, electrical, pressurization, lubrication, de-icing, vacuum, induction, and exhaust systems. Installs equipment such as external tanks, tow reels, hoists, and pylons.
* Troubleshoot and perform unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft, utilizing various gauges, meters, measuring devices and other related test equipment.
* Perform major adjustments and alignments of aircraft systems or components and assists specialists as required. Removes and replaces aircraft components such as control surfaces, engines, constant speed drive, engine mounted gear boxes, wing fuel tanks or cells, landing gear mechanisms, wheels, brakes and tires.
* Service oil, fluid, fuel, hydraulic, and oxygen systems.
* Adjust and maintain installed equipment such as tow targets, hydraulic reels, and drive assemblies.
* Remove and replace working or inoperative parts and elements. Performs operator maintenance on aircraft installed auxiliary power units. Tows, taxies, parks, and moors assigned and transient aircraft.

WG-8 Level MUST possess experience or training in the use of common hand tools to make mechanical repairs; experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components, and accessories with detailed guidance; experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies, and components, e.g., such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing, and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems. WG-5 Level MUST possess experience or training in the use of common hand tools to make mechanical repairs; experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components, and accessories with detailed guidance.

Summary of Essential Duties:

* Lead a team (minimum of three mechanics) and works beside others performing Electronic Integrated Systems maintenance duties.
* Perform in-process inspections within the shop and on-site of repair, diagnostics, modification, overhaul and/or rebuild of integrated electronic systems and related support equipment.
* Determine whether quality standards are met by detailed inspection of electronic, electrical, mechanical and operational inspections methods.
* Investigate causes of critical or major defects and assures corrective actions are taken.

As a POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-5378-11, you will serve as a Small Shop Chief (SSC) with the responsibility for the overall shop. The position oversees and directs work of one or more employees who perform work in the Powered Support Systems Mechanic occupation are assigned to the shop. The incumbent performs the full range of non-supervisory work of the shop.
Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:
* Possess the knowledge and skills found at the journey level as well as those required for planning, accomplishing, and maintaining a functional shop maintenance program.
* Plan and lay out work to be accomplished in the shop, which is then completed by the incumbent and lower graded mechanic(s).
* Estimate manpower, equipment and material requirements.
* Devise and maintain all program plans and records, is skilled in surveillance and troubleshooting techniques, and is able to determine maintenance/repair procedures needed without benefit of technical supervisory guidance.
* Plan, organize and direct shop maintenance programs/procedures under general supervision.
* Determine approaches, methods and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner.
* Provide recommendations and input to the supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position descriptions changes, disciplinary actions, leave, etc.

Qualifications
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code ยง 709), will be in the following manner and sequence:
* The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
* The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
* The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
* The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
* The FIFTH area of consideration will be U.S. Citizens.
Military Grades: Enlisted - May not exceed the rank of MSgt.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess the experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work; ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams and schematics, and skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in troubleshooting, testing, and repairing equipment.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-11 Level MUST - possess the experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories. Experience which provided working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience which provided working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
