Job Description:
This role is responsible for installing and modifying structural aircraft components and composite parts, ensuring precise fit and adhering to strict tolerances.
Your duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Installing detail parts such as shims, splices, gussets, angles, brackets, doublers, and patches.
* Modifying major structural components (ribs, stiffeners, longerons, straps, skins) and composite assemblies using shop aids.
* Applying expert knowledge of bonding practices, procedures, and layouts to achieve exact fits, especially where critical surface contours, edge distances, or coordinated dimensions and tolerances to 0.005" must be maintained.
* Completing all bonding operations with ingenuity to determine the most efficient fabrication and assembly methods.
* Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, technical manuals, and structure repair manuals, including understanding symbols, flags, and general notes.
* Identifying aircraft locations by station, butt-line, and waterline as shown on engineering documentation and technical orders.
* Using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and standard scales.
* Demonstrating extensive and recent experience with tools including drills, angle motors, shears, drill press, and pneumatic riveter.
* Being familiar with a variety of aircraft materials, including aluminum, steel, titanium, plastic, and advanced composites.

Training, Education and Experience
* Three years of increasingly responsible maintenance and repair experience as an FAA-certified Airframe and Powerplant Technician; or

Ground & Flight Operations will be conducted at various test sites, with the primary location being located at Fort Huachuca, AZ (Sierra Vista). This position will formally report to the Test & Training Site Lead but will be responsible to multiple stakeholders within/outside of the division. This position will be responsible for developing and managing aviation Ground & Flight Operation Procedures, including the development of maintenance manuals, formal training programs, technology insertion.

Perform routine and preventive maintenance on manned and unmanned aircraft, including airframes, engines, avionics, line-replaceable-units (LRU) and other system components.

Key Responsibilities
The NNSA Air unit is first and foremost an emergency response team. The emergency we are prepared for is rare. However, mechanics must be prepared to respond if activated. As such, MSTS has very reasonable but strict standby requirements for the response teams.
Standby requirements and considerations include:
Mechanics are required to be on standby as needed, usually 2-3 weeks at a time. Occasionally longer than 3 weeks depending on staffing.
Mechanics are paid $40 per day extra to be on standby.
Mechanics must be within 2 hours of your assigned base while on standby.
Mechanics on standby must have reliable cell phone reception.
Mechanics must remain fit to maintain the aircraft while on standby.

To satisfy the recent work experience requirement, the applicant must have been actively working, utilizing their A&P license for at least 6 of the preceding 24 months
As operations permit, applicants who cannot meet this requirement and are awarded an AMT classification, must work under the supervision of an AMT for six months and may also be required to attend additional training

**Responsiblities**
Seeking a motivated Airframe and Power plant technician joint our Aviation Maintenance Team based at Nellis Airforce Base, Las Vegas, Nevada. Daily responsibilities will be to perform scheduled/unscheduled maintenance and servicing activities on US Department of Energy Aircraft (Beechcraft B-350 airplane, Bell-412/212 helicopter and/or Leonardo AW139) operated by Mission Support and Test Services (MSTS), LLC.
**Key Responsibilities**
+ The NNSA Air unit is first and foremost an emergency response team. The emergency we are prepared for is rare. However, mechanics must be prepared to respond if activated. As such, MSTS has very reasonable but strict standby requirements for the response teams.
+ Standby requirements and considerations include:
+ Mechanics are required to be on standby as needed, usually 2-3 weeks at a time. Occasionally longer than 3 weeks depending on staffing.
+ Mechanics are paid $40 per day extra to be on standby.
+ Mechanics must be within 2 hours of your assigned base while on standby.
+ Mechanics on standby must have reliable cell phone reception.
+ Mechanics must remain fit to maintain the aircraft while on standby.
+ If called out, mechanics must be able to deploy for potentially several weeks straight.
+ Standby positions require an additional physical and various inoculations to maintain a deployable status.
+ Deployments for several weeks at a time are possible for both emergency response and non-emergency response missions.
+ Accomplish scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and servicing activities on US Department of Energy Aircraft (Beechcraft B-350 airplane, Bell-412/212 helicopter and/or Leonardo AW139,) operated by Mission Support and Test Services, LLC.
+ Assist technicians and maintenance personnel in the development, integration, installation and removal of standard mission equipment in aircraft.
+ Work with stockroom personnel to facilitate the timely requisitioning of all parts, materials and equipment needed to complete aircraft maintenance.
+ Maintain aircraft in accordance with latest revision of the manufacturer's instructions, applicable FAA Federal Aviation Regulations and Aviation Operations Manual.
+ Operate and maintain ground support equipment.
+ May conduct inspections on work in progress during aircraft maintenance activities, coordinates modifications and major repairs with the FAA, and provides input to aircraft maintenance procedures.
+ Responsible for compliance with airworthiness programs established by the airframe manufacturers.
+ Plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, adaptation, and modification of standard techniques, guidelines, procedures, and criteria.
+ Devise new approaches to maintenance.

+ Apply conventional approaches to maintenance problems encountered.
+ Plan, guide, or prepare administrative and technical documents as required for maintenance.
+ May direct overall activities on specific assignments.

**Qualifications**
+ Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 9 years' progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 11 years' progressive related experience.
+ Airplane and helicopter mechanics: Airframe and Power plant (A&P) FAA certificate required.
+ Degree in Aviation Maintenance preferred.
+ Professional experience maintaining turbine powered airplanes and helicopters is desired.
+ Be proficient at troubleshooting and diagnosing turbine powered airplane and helicopter airframe, engine, and electrical systems. Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations Parts 91, 65, 43, and 21.
+ Effective oral, written, and electronic communication skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and electronic manufacturer's maintenance libraries.
+ Participate in the Deployment Authorization Program (DAP) and be able to travel and work nonstandard hours and deploy on domestic and overseas missions on short notice on company aircraft or vehicle. Capable of lifting and carrying up to 75 lbs. Occasional overtime, weekend work, and travel may be required.
+ Beechcraft B-350 airplane, Bell-412/212 helicopter and/or Leonardo AW139, Pratt and Whitney PT6 Series Engine experience and FAA Inspection Authorization are desired.
+ The primary work location will be based at the Remote Sensing Laboratory at Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, NV (RSL-N).
+ Flexible work schedule can be negotiated with the manager; employees can work 5/8's, 9/80's or 4/10's work-weeks.
