A Helicopter Mechanic inspects, repairs, overhauls, services, cleans and returns all City-owned helicopters to service. NOTE: Helicopter Mechanics must be available to work weekends and holidays. Three years of full-time paid experience, two years of which must have been within the past three years, as an FAA Certified Airframe and Power Plant Mechanic engaged in performing maintenance and alterations on at least one or more of the following turbine powered helicopters: Bell 429, Bell 505 series, Bell 412, Airbus AS 350 Series (EC130), and/or Leonardo AW 139. Qualifying experience must include all of the following: * Performing FAR Part 91 or Part 135 required inspections, * Approving aircraft for return to service in accordance with FAR 43.9 or 43.11, or completion of the City of Los Angeles Helicopter Mechanic Training Program PROCESS NOTES * A valid Class C driver's license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is required at the time of appointment. Candidates will not be eligible for appointment to these positions if their DMV record within the last 36 months reflects three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents, or a conviction of a major moving violation such as DUI. * Applicants must submit a valid mechanical certificate with Airframe and Power Plant ratings issued by the Federal Aviation Administration at the time of filing. The copy of the certificate must be attached to the on-line application BEFORE the application is submitted. This role is essential to supporting Ecology's diverse fleet of trucks and trailers to ensure uptime, safety, and operational excellence. Responsibilities To perform this job successfully you must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned. Perform professional installation of wet kits, hydraulic pumps, tanks, lines, valves, and PTO systems on Class 8 diesel trucks. Conduct diagnostics and repairs on hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting leaks, pressure failures, and mechanical malfunctions. Service, inspect, and maintain diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and electrical components in accordance with OEM standards. Collaborate with senior mechanics and management on build specifications and install configurations for various truck body applications. Ensure all hydraulic and mechanical work is completed to DOT safety standards and manufacturer guidelines. Maintain proper documentation of work orders, parts usage, and service notes in the maintenance system. Use hand tools, diagnostic software, welding equipment, and hydraulic testing gauges as necessary for repairs and installs. Monitor inventory of hydraulic parts and recommend restocking when needed. Support other maintenance operations including preventative service, emergency repairs, and inspections as assigned.
