Responsibilities:
MV Transportation is seeking an "A" Level Lead Mechanic/Technician who will perform preventive maintenance inspections on various types of vehicles. He/she will manage a fleet of 56 vehicles, assign work to other Technicians, purchase parts, and process paperwork. The position requires the Technician, must be able to teach, to diagnose, inspect, and change or repair defective coach components, sub-components, and systems on vehicles as time permits, more complex repair techniques. The A Lead Technician must possess a CDL license with airbrakes and a passenger endorsement, a 609 and 608 air conditioning certifications and at least H or T series ASE certifications. This position will report to the General Manager. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Assign, monitor, and review daily work orders to ensure timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled repairs.
Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on engines, transmissions, electrical systems, HVAC, CNG systems, and other major vehicle components.
Lead, coach, and train mechanics of all levels (A/B/C) to maintain high standards of workmanship and safety.
Support the Maintenance Manager in planning preventive maintenance schedules and tracking vehicle availability.
Inspect and sign off on completed repairs to ensure adherence to company, city, and CHP standards.
Maintain communication between maintenance, dispatch, and operations to minimize vehicle downtime.
Assist with warranty claims, vendor coordination, and parts inventory oversight.
Promote safety awareness by enforcing PPE use, lockout/tagout procedures, and general shop safety compliance.
Conduct or assist in root cause analysis of repeat defects, road calls, and failed inspections.
Support preparation of vehicles for CHP, TRC, and City audits.
Serve as acting supervisor in the absence of the Maintenance Manager.
Coordinate between mechanics and utility personnel to ensure vehicle readiness and smooth daily yard operations.
Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent.
Effectively use and operate the tools and equipment required for the repair and maintenance of large vehicles.
Understand the theory, operation, and repair of diesel and CNG powered vehicles, including engines, transmissions, ignitions, and electrical hydraulic/pneumatic cooling, heating, and brake systems.
Learn and follow industrial and shop safety rules.
Read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
Learn and effectively use personal computers and the company's software programs for inventory and parts.
Read maps and locate road-called vehicles.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Work independently under continual training and close supervision.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work using principles of good customer service.
Combination of at least one (1) to two (2) years of journeyman level verifiable training and experience in automotive or diesel mechanics, which may include high school mechanics courses and/or a regional occupational program.
Additional Requirements:
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug testing.
Have taken basic automotive or heavy duty repair courses or have good understanding of basic automotive/heavy duty systems.
Have journeyman level tools.
Must be a least 23 years of age.
Must possess, or obtain and maintain a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver License with Air Brake and Passenger Endorsements, and a medical certificate by date of appointment.

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) licensing of contractor employee technical proficiency is not required.
Essential Job Functions:
The candidate is required to maintain and service the F/A-18 systems/components as required and in accordance with applicable publications and governing instructions. Applies technical knowledge of rated system principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skill in restoring equipment operation, evaluates performance and reliability of prototype or production mods, and recommends changes to installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance. The Aircraft Mechanic I applies technical knowledge to solve airframes system problems by interpreting manufacturer's manuals or similar documents. TASK REQUIREMENTS:
Familiar with duties assigned to personnel within all work centers.
Process Visual Information Display System/Maintenance Action Forms (VIDS/MAF) from aircrew or maintenance technicians in accordance with OPNAVINST 4790.2 Series, Navy, and Company Instructions.
Scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
Maintenance Control planning and management.
Aircraft maintenance action documentation via logs, records, forms, and electronic means
Support Equipment (SE operation and inspections.
Corrosion Control/Aircraft Painting.
Troubleshooting
Preservation/de-preservation.
General Aircraft Maintenance.
Ordnance handling, limited to unjamming related equipment/ALSS maintenance.
Technical Directive compliance and modifications.
Individual Material Readiness List (IMRL), and Metrology and Calibration (METCAL) Program Management.
Maintain Aircraft, Engines, and SE Logbooks.
Aviation Life Support System (ALSS) Maintenance.
Central Technical Publications Library Programs Management
Dispersed Technical Publications Librarian
Use hand tools, power tools, machines, specific and general aviation test measurement and diagnostic equipment.
Perform general housekeeping and organization of workstation(s), shop(s), maintenance facility to provide a clean, safe, and FOD free environment
Perform shift work and/or overtime as required
Perform other tasks as directed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ten or more years' experience with NALCOMIS/OOMA
Ten years extensive knowledge of Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP).
Familiarity and ability to use military tech manuals.
Advanced Corrosion Control Course
Attended Quality Assurance Admin course or Equivalent.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Individual (I) Aircraft Maintenance Qualification
Airframes “C” school or USMC/USCG equivalent
New hire personnel should have five years' aviation maintenance experience on applicable T/M/S aircraft
Preferred to have 1 year T/M required/Series preferred Intermediate experience within last 3 years
Three years extensive knowledge of Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP).
Must have valid driver's license

Must satisfactorily complete the equivalent of a trustworthy National Agency Check plus Written Inquiries with Credit Check (NACI), IAW DTM-08-003 “Next Generation Common Access Card (CAC) Implementation Guidance”.
Must be able to climb ladders, raised platforms, and aircraft.
Must be able to use hand and power tools.
Must have dexterity to handle small parts.
Must be able to deploy to support off station exercises and perform other support duties as assigned.

$48.49/hour
