We have an exciting opportunity for an A&P Mechanic supporting Test Operations at our Flight Operations Facilities located at either Gray Butte (Palmdale) or El Mirage (Adelanto) in sunny Southern California.
In this role you will be working on cutting edge technology utilizing your experience to further the development of new hardware and software, adding new capabilities to airborne sensing and weapons systems, and sustainment of customer fleets including MQ-1C Gray Eagle, MQ-9A Reaper, and MQ-9B SkyGuardian, SeaGuardian, and Protector systems.
Responsible for the entire Unmanned Aircraft System, you will be modifying and configuring aircraft and ground control stations to meet customer specified test programs, executing ground tests, and supporting flight test activities. This includes flightline activities such as preflight, launch and recovery, and postflight data collection.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* The successful candidate will service, troubleshoot, repair, inspect, and maintain aircraft and ground support equipment in support of test operations and sustainment activities in accordance with maintenance documentation.
* Support test teams for test and development (R&D) efforts.
* Performs work on airframe and powerplant in support of test operations and sustainment activities.
* Troubleshoot aircraft and engine systems to determine related problems to identify possible solutions.
* Develops and reviews new processes and procedures.
* Will assist in training efforts for various customers.
* Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
* Inspect powerplant and related components at regular intervals adhering to company approved procedures, maintenance manuals, and/or government technical order requirements.

DEFINITION
Inspects, troubleshoots, repairs airframes, engines, and other components of aircraft owned and/or operated by the County.
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS
Positions allocable to this class receive technical and administrative supervision from a Supervising Helicopter Mechanic or a Chief, Helicopter Maintenance. Technical guidance may be received from Senior Helicopter Mechanics. Incumbents perform journey-level technical maintenance, repairs, and alterations, including airframe, powerplant, propeller, rotor, or appliance, to reciprocating and/or turbine-powered aircraft in either Sheriff's or Fire Department's air operations. Incumbents must possess working knowledge of the methods of locating and diagnosing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, structural, and other troubles; the ability to maintain and repair engines, airframes, and accessory equipment; and knowledge of operation and preventive maintenance requirements of the aircraft to be maintained. Helicopter Mechanics serve a one year probationary period during which time they receive structured, in-service training in the repair and maintenance of complex, single-engine or multi-engine, turbine-powered aircraft. Successful completion of departmental in-service training programs is a condition of completing the one year probationary period. This class frequently lifts more than 50 pounds and regularly climbs on aircraft and ladders while carrying tools, equipment, and parts.
Gathers and interprets information from a variety of sources (e.g., pilots, manufacturers and manufacturers' maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams, illustrated parts breakdown, test results, Technical Bulletins, helicopter mechanics, etc.) by communicating orally and in writing, by asking questions, reading, conducting tests, contacting manufacturer technical support representatives, and performing inflight duties etc. in order to troubleshoot, guide inspection and perform maintenance repairs.
Maintains AirBus AS350 helicopters by:
* performing daily, periodic, hourly, and other inspections as required by manufacturers, Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), and/or County policy to determine airworthiness of helicopters, serviceability of aircraft appliances, and to identify problems or potential problems;
* troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and structural problems on helicopters using visual inspection techniques and a variety of test equipment (e.g., volt-ohm meter, pressure gauges, computer diagnostic equipment, etc.) in order to locate the source of problems and determine what corrective actions are needed (e.g., adjustments, repairs, replacement of parts, etc.);
* repairing, removing and replacing defective parts, overhauling parts, fabricating parts, etc. using a variety of handheld, hydraulic, and power tools and equipment (e.g., pullers, wrenches, dead-blow hammers, etc.) in order to make the aircraft or component airworthy and return it to service;
* cleaning, using brushes, rags/towels, hoses, stepladders, soaps and solvents, etc. in order to facilitate visual inspection of the aircraft, prevent corrosion, and to give the aircraft a clean, professional, and well-maintained appearance.
Completes forms and makes logbook entries (e.g., inspection checklists, maintenance logs, work orders, etc.) by hand and/or using a computer word processing and/or email application in order to document the performance of scheduled maintenance, report issues or problems, provide information to others (e.g., supervisors, coworkers, pilots, etc.), and to be in compliance with manufacturers guidance, Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), and/or County policy.
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
Three years' (full-time)* experience, gained within the last five years, in the repair and maintenance of turbine-powered helicopters such as the AirBus AS350 B2 and/or AS332 L1 Super Puma. One year of the required experience must have been in: Responsible charge of repairs and overhauls to return "certified" helicopters to flight status in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration Regulations and manufacturer requirements -or- Responsible charge of repairs and overhauls to return "non-certified" helicopters to flight status in compliance with manufacturer requirements in either a Department of Defense/U.S. Military or private contractor environment.
LICENSE
A valid Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic's License issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

PHYSICAL CLASS

Responsibilities

Perform professional installation of wet kits, hydraulic pumps, tanks, lines, valves, and PTO systems on Class 8 diesel trucks.

Service, inspect, and maintain diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and electrical components in accordance with OEM standards.
