    Job Title: Aircraft Mechanic III (Maintenance Control) Task Description: Aircraft Mechanic III (23023): Leads a team in the performance of aircraft maintenance, inspections, and scheduled / unscheduled maintenance. Processes the technical experience to supervise subordinate mechanics and provide technical guidance on maintenance operations on the airframe being supported. Capable of performing, supervising and inspecting the duties of Mechanic Is, IIs and IIIs. A person in this position maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures, structural components and engines of complex to extreme difficulty, maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components, and applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation. This worker also applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufactures' manuals. Work typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems. A detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc. is required. Must possess the experience and ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers alike, must possess excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule. This worker will be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records, and is responsible for providing guidance and technical expertise to lower level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts. Additional Requirements: The Maintenance Controller performs administrative duties using computer, and other associated equipment within maintenance control. Assigns aircraft to the daily flight schedule. Releases aircraft “Safe for Flight”, assigns project/priority codes and directs cannibalization actions to meet the unit's maintenance plan and daily flight schedule. Monitors maintenance schedules for accuracy and completion. Skill and Knowledge: Shall have the ability to troubleshoot malfunctions in various aircraft systems and be able to perform general Organizational Level maintenance and possess one or more of the specialties of the assigned aircraft below: Airframe/Structural, Landing Gear, Launch/Arresting, Wing/Pylon Fold, Hydraulic/Pneumatic, mechanical Flight Control Systems, Power Plants and related Sub-Systems, Fuel and Air Systems, Hydraulic/Pneumatic Systems, Rotor Systems, Flight Control Systems, Transmission Drive Systems, Avionics/Electrical Systems and related Sub-Systems, and Aircraft Logs and Records Administration Must be knowledgeable of technical directives, NAMP programs, and shall be knowledgeable of and understand basic supply procedures. Maintenance Controller shall have experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy, and exhibit leadership and ensure adherence to all applicable policies and procedures. Possess a high degree of expertise in the control and coordination of aircraft maintenance. Thorough working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications. Thorough working knowledge of aircraft maintenance records. Working understanding of the aircraft and aircraft systems. Responsibility: Performs requirements in accordance with the procedures established in the PWS. Performs diagnosis and corrective actions, disassembles, inspects, evaluates, and accomplishes necessary repairs, lays out work according to technical instructions and technical directives. Determines what repairs, modifications, and part replacements are required. May be required to verify work performed by another for which he/she is qualified to perform. Task Requirements: Performs Maintenance Control duties Directly responsible and accountable to the Site Manager for Quality management of the Technical Directive compliance program and fill in as the Technical directive program coordinator as needed. Familiar with duties assigned to all personnel within the Maintenance Control Work Center. Process Visual Information Display System/Maintenance Action Forms (VIDS/MAF) from aircrew or maintenance technicians in accordance with OPNAVINST 4790.2 Series, Navy, and Company Instructions. Screens completed VIDS/MAFs for correct entries and data. Maintain Aircraft Discrepancy Book (ADB) in accordance with OPNAVINST 4790.2 Series. When qualified and assigned by the Maintenance Control Supervisor, assists in scheduling aircraft into the maintenance program to ensure maximum availability of assets, become designated to release all TMS aircraft “Safe for Flight.” Coordinates the daily flight schedule and configuration requirements with duty and applicable work centers. Coordinates and screen Daily/Turnaround and special inspections as well as component and hi-time requirements to ensure aircraft are current for the flight schedule. Performs duties as Liaison with base personnel for other requirements to include but not limited to fueling / defueling operations, fire department and etc. Perform preflight, thru flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, launch and recover aircraft, and Preventive Maintenance Daily Inspections. Performs aircraft maintenance functions of the Line, Corrosion Control, and Aircraft Organizational Level maintenance Scheduled and unscheduled maintenance support for assigned H-1 aircraft Performs aircraft Daily Turn Around Inspections Performs aircraft launch and recovery operations Performs inspection, disassembly, repair, servicing, TD compliance, modification, assembly, corrosion control, preservation/de-preservation Maintain aircraft and aeronautical equipment to continuously support the assigned readiness posture outlined in in the activities plan and daily flight schedule Aircraft maintenance action documentation via logs, records, forms, and electronic means Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, pneumatic, hydraulic, ventilation and heating, flight surfaces and controls, dynamic components, and powerplant systems. Use hand tools, power tools, machines, specific and general aviation test measurement and diagnostic equipment, and sets kits and outfits (SKO). Inspect, repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft components/sub components to include rigging of flight control. Read and interpret manufacturers' maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components. Duties and Responsibilities: Performs skilled level tasks in one or more of the following areas related to mechanical, electrical, HVAC and refrigeration trades to operate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment; Submits reports, orally or in writing of progress and status as necessary to ensure proper job accounting and to identify and resolve any problems encountered that may cause delays, shut down or damage; Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, shop drawings, schematics, manufacturer's specifications and other reference material to determine appropriate job requirements and procedures; Continually expands knowledge of the trade through appropriate courses, seminars, publications and contracts with others in the trade; Ability to share trade knowledge with employees in areas of HVAC/Refrigeration operations and maintenance practices; Assists with the procurement of supplies and materials; As assigned, inspects work performed by outside contractors to insure conformance with University specifications; Maintains good working relationships with the students, faculty, staffs and vendors, adheres to all University policy and procedures Maintains a working knowledge of relevant codes, regulations and applies them consistently in daily activities; Works in a neat and orderly manner and maintains a clean work area; Maintains tools and equipment in good condition; Works from ladders and scaffolding as well as in confined spaces. Safety: Consistently follows and enforces safety practices appropriate to building maintenance and complies with rules and regulations established by the University and governmental agencies; Maintains an awareness of the typical hazards of the work place as well as the special hazards that may be encountered at any University facility location such as biohazards, low-grade radiation and chemicals known to the State of California to cause, birth defects, or other reproductive harm; Follows established governmental (local, state and federal) procedures for dealing with special hazards; and promptly reports any unusual conditions to the supervisor. Special Conditions of Employment: Must be able to work assigned hours and may be assigned to work any shift. Employees working in this classification may be designated as essential personnel and subject to occasional overtime, callbacks and may be required to serve 24/7 on-call rotation. Must possess a valid California driver's license and may be required to drive University vehicles; Must wear a uniform prescribed and furnished by USD; May be assigned to work in the vicinity of laboratories where biohazards, radioactive or other potentially hazardous substances are stored or used; Must continually expand knowledge base in building maintenance techniques, attend assigned training; Must work individually or in teams coordinating assigned work with other groups and department; May be assigned to work at any USD facility/location; Performs other duties as assigned. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and 2 years of work experience at the Maintenance Mechanic 2 level, and additional 2 years of work experience in HVAC/Refrigeration. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
