AOPA company history timeline

1939

The country club was the location of meetings of members that founded AOPA. AOPA incorporated on May 15, 1939, with C. Towsend Ludington serving as the first president.

1947

On February 17, 1947, a meeting of incorporators and Members was assembled in New York to establish the permanent organization as a not-for-profit corporation.

The first annual meeting of the organization was held in room 101 of the Biltmore Hotel on September 24, 1947, with 18 voting and one associate company comprising its Membership.

1953

At a special meeting held June 26, 1953, at the Wings Club in New York City, it became the National Business Aircraft Association.

By 1953 it became clear that the group’s name should be changed to reflect its national scope and the growing diversity of its constituency.

1954

Improving the safety of business aircraft operations has been a top priority of NBAA ever since the association was founded, and the Safety Committee, formed in 1954, was one of NBAA’s first standing committees.

2017

13, 2017, marks NBAA's 70th anniversary – a significant milestone the association will commemorate all year long.

2022

EBACE will return as in-person event 23-25 May 2022 at the magnificent Palexpo, which is strategically located within 10 minutes of the center of Geneva, and is immediately adjacent to the EBACE aircraft display at Geneva International Airport, a railway station and a motorway.
