Zuliana De Aviacion was a Venezuelan airline formed in 1985 and based in the city of Maracaibo, Venezuela.
In 1993, ValuJet was the first airline to launch ticketless travel.
AirTran Airways found a new owner in September 1995--the holding company AirWays Corp.
ValuJet accumulated $368 million in 1995 revenues.

The first 717s arrived in October 1999 and the aging DC-9s were beginning to be phased out.
On August 15, 2001, AirTran stock began trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
In 2002, AirTran partnered with regional airline Air Wisconsin to offer regional jet service under the name AirTran JetConnect.
In 2003, the airline placed an order for 100 Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft.
The partnership would only last for two years and was closed in 2004.
On April 2, 2007, AirTran again raised its bid for Midwest to $389 million in cash and stock ($9 in cash and .5842 shares of AirTran stock totaling $15 a share). CEO Joe Leonard stated that this would be AirTran's final bid.
However, Midwest announced TPG would increase its offer to $17 per share and a definitive agreement had been reached on August 16, 2007.
In 2009, AirTran became the first airline in the United States to offer GoGo inflight wifi onboard every aircraft.
On September 27, 2010, Southwest Airlines announced it would acquire AirTran Holdings, along with its subsidiary AirTran Airways.
The deal was closed on May 2, 2011 and the carriers began using a single certificate the next year.
On May 2, 2011, AirTran Holdings was purchased by Southwest Airlines.
Starting 2012, AirTran aircrafts began to be converted to the Southwest brand.
30, 2014 and used the “Critter” callsign as a homage to Valujet.
By the end of 2014, Airtran Airways will be completely integrated into Southwest Airlines.
