Key Responsibilities Automation Maintenance & Support * Perform routine preventative maintenance on liquid handling platforms (e.g., Hamilton VANTAGE, Tecan EVO, etc). * Conduct system calibrations, verifications, and diagnostics to ensure optimal performance. * Monitor robotic system performance and proactively address issues before failures occur. * Manage instrument logs and maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance with industry best practices. * Maintain and troubleshoot robotic peripherals, sensors, and electromechanical components. Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving * Diagnose and resolve automation errors, reducing system downtime and ensuring workflow continuity. * Conduct root cause analysis for persistent automation failures and recommend solutions. * Provide technical support to lab users, helping them operate and troubleshoot automated systems. * Collaborate with vendors and field service engineers to coordinate repairs, software updates, and hardware replacements. Automation Optimization & Development * Support the integration of new hardware and software features into existing automation systems. * Work with automation engineers to implement process improvements and increase system efficiency. * Document best practices and contribute to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for system operations. * Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, suggesting and implementing optimizations for automation workflows. Technical Documentation & Compliance * Maintain accurate records of troubleshooting steps, maintenance logs, and performance reports. * Ensure compliance with laboratory quality standards, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols. * Assist in preparing documentation and equipment validation Collaboration & Training * Work closely with automation engineers, scientists, IT, and lab managers to ensure seamless lab automation operations. * Provide training and support to end-users, ensuring proper operation of liquid handling robots. * Learn automation programming and scripting techniques, with growth potential into engineering roles. Qualifications Education & Experience * Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field (or equivalent technical experience). * 1-3 years of hands-on experience in automation, robotics, or laboratory instrumentation. * Experience working with liquid handling systems (Hamilton, Tecan, Agilent, Beckman, etc.) is a plus. * Basic knowledge of automation software (e.g., VENUS, VWorks, Green Button Go, LabWare LIMS, or similar platforms) is preferred but not required. * Experience in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, clinical diagnostics, or life sciences is advantageous. Technical Skills & Competencies * Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills for robotic systems. * Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and maintenance documentation. * Familiarity with electromechanical components, sensors, and actuators. * Knowledge of liquid handling principles and lab automation workflows. * Basic programming experience (Python, C#, VB, or automation scripting) is a plus. * Experience with lab process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) is an advantage. * Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory guidelines. * Strong documentation skills for troubleshooting reports, maintenance records, and compliance tracking. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist I handles all infectious disease testing with a goal of providing 100% accuracy when processing samples. The CLS I performs all essential functions such as laboratory safety, Good Documentation Practice (GDP), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), specimen processing and troubleshooting maintaining productivity and quality assigned metrics, and providing effective communication with laboratory management and team. Essential Responsibilities/Duties: * Performing sample prep, DNA extraction and PCR. * Running KingFisher Flex, Accufill, VeritiPro, QuantStudio 12K and 5. * Performing accurate manual and electronic pipetting of small sample volumes. * Adhere to laboratory's quality control policies, quality control activities and SOP's. * Review all SOP's and workflow updates in a timely manner and ensure all SOP updates are implemented in real time for workflow processes. * Perform preventive maintenance checks and decontamination of equipment and workspaces. * Follow the laboratory's established polices and procedures for notifying appropriate supervisors when test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance. * Facilitate and ensure appropriate individual work output is completed based on current company metrics. * Identify problems that may adversely affect testing performance or reporting of test results by immediately notifying the General Supervisor and/or Technical Supervisor. * Participate in processing proficiency testing samples, as applicable. * Successfully complete all CEU credits as required by the company. * Responsible for staying informed of all incident reports and compliance related issues by attending all team meetings. * Ability to perform basic accession in pre-analytical operations: requirements for Patient Identifiers (PID), auditing and communicating client manifest issues, identifying specimens categorized as non-compliant, acceptance/rejection of patient specimens, and creating cases for exceptions and sent out orders. Qualifications: Education - Clinical testing personnel must possess a current license issued by the state in which the laboratory is located, if such licensing is required; and meet the following educational requirements: * 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, includes either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that include six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination. * Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, NAACLS, or other organization approved by HHS (note that this training may be include in the 60 semester hours above). * Competencies/Skills - * Strong attention to detail * Ability to multitask. * Ability to adapt quickly to new changes. * Strong verbal and written communication skills Experience -- * 1-year high complexity clinical laboratory experience preferred, unless required by the state in which the laboratory is located. * Broad understanding of sterile technique, contamination control, and unidirectional workflow necessary for a PCR lab. * Prior knowledge of molecular laboratory techniques and processes, including but not limited to micropipette. * Basic understanding of instrument maintenance and troubleshooting. Certifications/Licenses-- * ASCP, AMT, or other organizations preferred unless required by the state in which the laboratory is located.
