There are talented engineers employed and a strong work life balance that reduces the stress of the workplace.
Everything else. Upper Management (i.e. CEO/CTO Across all regions) have no ability to effectively plan for future growth, thereby making decisions to cut a majority of the work force that was advocating change. HR pushes a continual cycle of reviews and check-ins/action plans, but it becomes paper work and a waste of time when these materials are not leveraged to make effective change. Recruiting pushes a constant influx of college graduates and early career employees, generating many bad software architecture decisions that impact the entire firm. There is absolutely no mentoring framework in place, no career ladder defined, no basic software architecture best practices employed. When you look at the upper management you will understand why since these are folks also early in their career, promoting a young, ageist and unexperienced environment.
The general populas of the firm are smart and hard working.
Absolutely nothing. The leadership is unexperienced, uneducated, and does not have the ability to effectively plan for headcount or projects. The environment they have created, through recruiting and layoffs is very lopsided to the 20-something crowd, and appears extremely discrimatory to age.
Bring in more experienced talent for adding mentoring capabilities and experience in planning scalable architectures.
There are many financial firms throughout the country. Turn your attention to one where you will be mentored, paid competitively, and valued.
There are a number of smart and talented individuals (unfortunately overlooked and under appreciated by the business)
Upper Management (meaning the C-Suite and those that have their ears). There are many very bad technical decisions being made by folks that do not understand architecting scalable solutions.
