1986

It was founded in 1986 and before taken over by RBC bank, it acquired many other banks and opened a lot of different branches in different cities and states.

1993

Two more banks an d one thrift joined the Alabama National BanCorporation fold through 1993, according to American Banker.

By 1993, two more banks and a savings and loan had become part of Alabama National BanCorporation.

1994

By 1994, Alabama Bancshares Inc. became Regions Financial Corporation.

Victor E. Nichol, Jr., executive vice-president (EVP) of Alabama National, succeeded Holcomb as president and COO. Nichol, following 23 years with AmSouth Bancorp, joined NBC in 1994 as EVP an d CFO.

In 1994, the company added two more banks and $100 million in assets.

1995

The Shoal Creek based operation made the announcement in April 1995, in the wake of stock activity.

In 1995, National Bank of Commerce, with $130 million more in assets, became a subsidiary of Alabama National after NBC won a deal for a savings and loan.

National Bank of Commerce of Birmingham started in 1965 as a family-owned community bank. It was first publicly traded in 1995.

1997

1997: Company buys first bank outside of home state.

Alabama National took over First American in 1997, when First American had $223 million in assets and Alabama National had $929 million, ranking sixth in Alabama.

Also in 1997, Alabama National entered Florida by opening Citizens & Peoples Bank in Escambia County.

2000

In 2000, Alabama National reported net income of $24.4 million.

2001

Alabama National acquired another central Florida bank in 2001, the & #36;130 million in assets Peoples State Bank of Groveland.

2002

Alabama National's insurance business, operating as ABA Insurance Ser vices Inc., purchased two small agencies, one in Alabama, another in Florida, in the second half of 2002.

During 2002, insurance subsidiary ABA Insurance Services Inc. bought agencies in Alabama in Florida.

2003

Furthermore, Alabama National's investment services income rose 38 pe rcent in 2003 primarily due to an increase in bond sales.

2003: Alabama National announces largest acquisition in compan y history.

2004

Peoples State Bank merged with Public Bank in June 2004.

The company was renamed Regions Financial Corp. in 1994 to better reflect its growing presence throughout the South. Its merger with Memphis, Tennessee-based Union Planters Corporation took place in July 2004, creating a Top 15 United States bank.

In October 2004, Alabama National announced a deal with National Bank of Commerce which would give First American $2.5 billion in assets and 33 locations.

NBC Securities' Victor J. Nichol and five others in the investment su bsidiary resigned in late 2004.

2005

Also, First Citizens Bank of Talladega became part of First American in May 2005.

2006

The company was renamed Regions Financial Corp. in 1994 to better reflect its growing presence throughout the South. Its merger with AmSouth Bancorporation on November 4, 2006, created a Southeast-based financial powerhouse ranking as one of the top banks in the nation.

2012

On March 4, 2012, all RBC Bank branches became PNC Bank branches, after PNC Financial Services' acquisition of RBC's American assets.

2017

On October 1, 2017, FirstBanc of Alabama Inc., the parent company of First Bank of Alabama acquired Swann Bancshares, Inc. and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Bank of Wedowee.

2018

After 170 years of continued success, on March 1, 2018, First Bank of Alabama opened their seventh office in Ashland, Alabama with a full-service branch to serve the community.

2019

On December 3, 2019, First Bank of Alabama opened their eighth full service office in Oxford, Alabama.

2022
