ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: ( The following are illustrative of essential functions to perform duties and responsibilities of the job. The position may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional tasks as needed by the Department. Initiates and receives communications both written and verbal, to and from clients, district courts, attorney, other child support units, public and private agencies. Monitors child support payments and follows up when necessary. May renegotiate settlements and support obligations if changes in income or financial circumstances occur. Sets up and monitors genetic testing procedures for paternity cases including seeing that legal requirements are met. Reporting to TANF eligibility Case Managers on the clients “cooperation” or “non-cooperation”. Specific Job Duties (Essential Functions and Responsibilities) * Responsible for maintaining agreements with the VA and the US Department of Defense. * Direct, develop and coordinate strategies and programs to assist with the education and development of veterans, service members, dependents, survivors, and incarcerated students. * Responsible for recruiting, retaining and preparing veterans for successful transition into the educational setting. * Works closely with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, State Veterans Affairs, local, state, and national veterans' organizations and other university departments regarding the availability of resources and opportunities to assist veterans in education and career advancement. * Foster and support a "user-friendly" environment for veterans, service members, dependents and survivors and assists in the location of financial, cultural, and social support services. * Responsible for implementation and assessment of programs that increase veteran enrollment at ASU. * Establish and implement short and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies and operating procedures. * Build and maintain community partnerships (e.g. Project Healing Waters, Veterans Memorial Park, and Veterans Suicide Prevention). * Develop and recommend policies to the ASU leadership in support of student veterans, service members, dependents and their survivors. * Provide advocacy and assistance in support of student issues and challenges. Represent the Center for Veteran and Military Affairs at functions including student organizations and professional/support staff and faculty departments. * Serves on committees and task forces as directed by the Vice President for Student Affairs. * Works with the Director of the Prison College Program to address the needs of incarcerated veterans and dependents. * Works with the Office of Student Business Services to address payment issues related to the VA educational benefits. * Manage, update and maintain Veterans webpage and Facebook page. * Serve as a liaison to Colorado Campus Compact of the Mountain West. * Process and certify student enrollment to the Department of Veterans Affairs for processing of VA educational benefits. Updating student's enrollment status in "VA-Once" in accordance with VA guidelines. Provide the VA with any additional information needed to process enrollment certification. Provide students with any information regarding certification they request. Assist all students using VA educational benefits with any questions or concerns. * Maintain a database of all student using VA educational benefits for tracking and retention purposes. * Demonstrate self-awareness of one's own cultural beliefs, perspectives, and privileges as a part of one's orientation toward leadership. * Maintain a bias toward decision-making that is informed by research, data, and theory and that leverages students' unique cultures, experiences, and background as strengths. * Build a culture of collaboration, teamwork, and "over-communication" that fosters collaboration within and across departmental lines. * Other duties as needed to support the success of the department. Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree. * Veteran preferred. * Two years of supervisory experience. * Experience working with faculty/staff/students from post-secondary institutions. * Knowledge of program or project planning and implementation. * Experience developing and evaluating policies and procedures. * Strong written and oral communication skills. * Demonstrated experience designing and conducting programs. * Experience interpreting federal regulations. * Ability to work with a diverse population with a wide variety of needs. * Proficiency in all types of communication, including social networking.
