Albemarle Hospital company history timeline

1914

The US Navy built the Elizabeth City Hospital in 1914.

1916

The 1916 report of the NC Board of Public Charities notes that Elizabeth City gave $700 a year to the hospital to pay for care for the poor and that there was a nurses training school associated with the Hospital with a class of 5.

1918

Edna Wright Few was born in Wilmington, N.C. on April, 18, 1918 and departed this life on Nov.

1922

According to the 1922-23 Pasquotank City Directory, the following nurses worked at the Pasquotank Municipal Hospital: Lydia Daily, Margaret Hanf, Essie Murphy, Nell Sanderson, Etta Truitt.

1957

By 1957, these pressures created the demand for an educational facility to help teach residents the skills needed to succeed in a changing world.

1960

By the fall of 1960, Pasquotank County voters decisively passed a special tax of 15 cents per $100 valuation to support a new college.

1972

They say, "She lived to serve." (Tar Heel Nurse, March 1972.)

2011

In September 2011, both Pasquotank County and the city of Elizabeth City commemorated the college’s 50th anniversary with proclamations celebrating COA Anniversary Week – Sep.
