Albertus Magnus College company history timeline

1925

A charter was signed on July 13, 1925, and the first classes at Albertus Magnus College were held on September 24, 1925 in Rosary Hall, the mansion on the property.

Albertus Magnus College was founded in 1925 by the Dominican Sisters of St Mary of the Springs.

1926

Since 1926, the College has acquired several mansions, which are used for student residences and administration.

1940

By 1940 the campus had expanded to its current 50 acre size and absorbed a variety of surrounding gilded-era mansions for use as dormitories and office space.

1969

The College’s Board of Trustees was reorganized in 1969 so that 80 percent of its members are lay people; the other 20 percent are members of the Dominican Sisters of Peace.

1989

The Cosgrove, Marcus, Messer Athletic Center opened in 1989.

1992

The first graduate program, a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies, was offered in 1992.

2005

The latest construction on campus — the Tagliatela Academic Center— opened for classes in January 2005.

2019

In 2019, Albertus was pleased to announce the purchase of the Overseas Ministries Studies Center (OMSC) complex, consisting of three buildings located at 490 Prospect Street in New Haven, Connecticut, which will be used for additional student housing, offices, and meeting space.
