Alfa company history timeline

1986

Then in 1986, the government money began drying up and the company would once again be up for sale.

1989

Founded in 1989, Alfa Group (“Alfa*”) is one of the largest privately owned financial-investment conglomerates in Russia.

1992

The 155 introduced in 1992, secured the Italian Superturismo title in the same year and the British Touring Car Championship 2 years later.

1993

On the racing scene, the 155 V6 Ti helped Alfa Romeo win the Italian Superturismo title, along with a historic victory at the 1993 DTM championship.

1994

In 1994 Alfa sold only 600 cars in the US. So they decided to pull out of the market altogether and stop exporting cars stateside.

1998

Fitted with the sequential Selespeed gearshift – a racing legacy – Alfa Romeo’s new sedan was a huge commercial success; it would be awarded “Car of the Year” in Europe in 1998

2005

Fast forward to 2005 and Fiat plan to create a sports and luxury division from Alfa Romeo and Maserati.

2007

A reorganisation went underway in 2007, creating four new companies including Alfa Romeo Automobiles S.p.A, which was fully owned by Fiat Group Automobiles S.p.A.

2009

The spider version was launched in 2009.

2010

Updated in 2010, the Giulietta in the form of a beautiful five-door hatch, was launched.

2014

Fast forward to 2014 when Alfa officially re-entered the US market after learning that it needed a place to sell its cars.

2015

In 2015 the Giulia made its world debut in Milan with CEO Sergio Marchionne saying that the car would be: “retaking its rightful position in the market.
