Allegany College of Maryland history
Allegany College of Maryland company history timeline
Allegany College of Maryland, the community's college in Allegany County and serving Western Maryland and the surrounding region, was founded in 1961.
In 1969, the College moved to a new campus consisting of seven buildings on a 316-acre (1.3 km) tract in suburban Cumberland that was partially funded by the Appalachian Regional Commission.
In fall 1996, with the College's role in the region continuing to expand, the College was renamed Allegany College of Maryland to reflect changes in its mission.
On January 17, 2017, it was announced that the Somerset location will close following the Spring 2017 semester.
