The Allen Institute Finance team is excited to welcome an analytical, customer-focused Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) to help reshape the planning and modeling capability of the Institute. In this pivotal role, youll partner directly with the Executive Director of Finance and work hands-on across financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and process innovation. In addition, this role will manage one direct report, providing leadership and guidance to support team and institute objectives to advance human health.
The ideal candidate for this role will be equally comfortable leading a team and rolling up their sleeves to perform in-depth analyses, financial modeling, and building new reporting tools. Essential Functions
* Financial Modeling & Analysis
* Develop, enhance, and maintain the Institutes long range financial and operational models to support dynamic planning and scenario analysis.
* Create what-if scenarios to evaluate financial and operational pressures on the institute and work to mitigate challenges with the team.
* Establish best practice for model design, documentation, and version control.
* Budgeting & Forecasting
* Lead and participate in the preparation for the annual budgeting process from budget targets through approval, including validation and alignment with Institute objectives
* Collaborate with program and department leaders to develop budgets and resource plans in line with annual budget targets
* Consolidate and validate all budget submissions and prepare executive review and board presentations
* Manage quarterly forecast cycles using actuals and adjusted assumptions
* Track and report on budget vs. actual performance through automated reporting and provide variance explanations
* Design creative solutions to enhance understanding of Institute plans and actuals
* Highly organized with utmost standards of accuracy and precision
* Process Improvement & Automation
* Identify inefficiencies in the FP&A processes and workstreams in order to establish opportunities to streamline
* Develop and deploy standard templates, processes, and operating principals within the FP&A team

* Develop Power BI reports for self-service analytics for leaders at all levels, synthesizing large datasets into actionable insights

* Serve as subject matter expert for Workday Adaptive Planning and Power BI

Required Education and Experience
* Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics or related field required
* 5+ years of progressive FP&A experience with strong emphasis on financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and data analysis.
* Prior experience managing a team and or mentoring staff
* Demonstrated ability to independently build complex financial models using Excel
* Experience with a Financial Planning system (Adaptive, Anaplan, etc.)
* Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statements
Preferred Education and Experience
* Advanced data visualization and data architecture skills in Power BI, Tableau, etc.
* Experience working with large data sets, relational databases, and data query tools (Power Query, SQL, etc.)

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Annualized Salary Range
* $119,650 - $164,505*

The Allen Institute is launching a new moonshot initiative on human brain health and disease. This initiative aims to dramatically accelerate our understanding of human brain structure and function, identify the molecular, cellular and circuit basis of disease progression, and pioneer new therapeutic strategies targeting vulnerable and affected cell types. Our mission focuses on taking a human-centric approach to understanding and treating disease, combining a large-scale open science discovery approach across multiple diseases, AI-based disease modeling, and translational programs in specific diseases to move from discovery to clinical application. We aim to make transformational change in understanding and treating brain disorders, the biggest health challenge of our time.
Recent advances in spatial molecular analyses of brain tissues with high information content transcriptomic, proteomic and connectomic methods are rapidly transforming how we can understand brain structure and function in health and disease, accelerated by the recent commercialization of spatial platforms. Application to important areas of human neurobiology and neurobiology of disease is now possible, albeit with the need for technical innovation to scale to large format needed to understand brain-wide phenotypes of human brain structure and function. We are seeking an outstanding individual to lead a large format spatial biology core, to collaborate with internal and external partners to bring in new technologies, optimize them for application to human brain tissues, and manage a core facility to deliver high-throughput datasets as part of coordinated large scale projects. This individual should have experience in imaging core management, and is highly motivated to support creation of an imaging core to take on the specific challenges of large-format imaging of large human brain specimens. This role will also foster innovation on new assays and technologies and actively participate in scientific programs to accelerate discovery and translation in brain disorders. The successful candidate will have direct expertise in spatial methods and experience running core facilities.
The Senior Manager, Spatial Biology, will be responsible for supervising, directing and at times executing a wide variety of tasks provided by the core that are necessary for advancing our scientific goals focused on understanding the human brain in the healthy and the disease states.

There are two types of Information Systems Technicians depending on whether you choose to serve on ships or submarines. Responsibilities may include:

Work Environment
As an IT, you are primarily stationed aboard ships at sea, while you'll serve aboard submarines as an ITS. You will also receive shore assignments. Your typical work environment will be a clean, climate-controlled indoor space used to house electronic equipment or computers.
Training & Advancement
Upon completion of initial training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes (known as Boot Camp), both ITS and ITs report for specialized training, including:
Class A Technical School (24 weeks) in Pensacola, FL (for ITs) or Groton, CT (for ITSs) for training on Microsoft, Cisco and Oracle computer software and hardware fundamentals, automatic data processing, security, and system theory and operation.
After A School, Information Systems Technician Submarines (ITS) will also attend submarine training:
Basic Enlisted Submarine School (8 weeks) in Groton, CT, for training in basic submarine systems. Note that this training is only for Information Systems Technician Submarines (ITS).
After completing training, ITs and ITSs will receive their first assignments. ITs may be assigned to a ship, communication station or shore station, while ITSs may be assigned to a submarine, communication station or shore station. Promotion opportunities are regularly available but competitive and based on performance.
Advanced Training
Advanced training as an Information Systems Technician may be available during later stages of your career. For those with further leadership aspirations and a college degree, Officer roles may be available, providing opportunities to lead and train others.
Post-Service Opportunities
Specialized training received and work experience gained in the course of service can lead to valuable credentialing and occupational opportunities in related fields in the civilian world, such as IT and network support, computer programming, web development, and information security.
Education Opportunities
Beyond offering access to professional credentials and certifications, Navy technical and operational training as an Information Systems Technician can translate to credit hours toward a bachelor's or associate degree through the American Council on Education.
You may also continue your education through undergraduate degree opportunities like the Navy College Program and Tuition Assistance and the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
Qualifications & Requirements
A high-school diploma or equivalent is required to become an Enlisted Sailor and an Information Systems Technician.
Due to the sensitive nature of this role, you must be a U.S. citizen eligible for a Top Secret security clearance, which requires a background investigation. Immediate family members must also be U.S. citizens.
IT and ITS applicants should have good arithmetic, writing and speaking skills, and should be able to use and understand computers. You should also be able to perform detailed work, keep accurate records and work well with others as part of a team. Important physical attributes include good manual dexterity and physical strength.
ITS applicants must be willing to serve aboard submarines.
General qualifications may vary depending upon whether you're currently serving , whether you've served before or whether you've never served before .
Part-Time Opportunities
Serving part-time as a Navy Reserve Sailor, your duties will be carried out during your scheduled drilling and training periods. During monthly drilling, Information Systems Technicians in the Navy Reserve typically work at a location close to their homes.
For annual training, you may serve anywhere in the world, including locations in the U.S., at bases overseas, or in areas where humanitarian needs are great.

Most of what you do in the Navy Reserve is considered training. The basic Navy Reserve commitment involves training a minimum of one weekend a month (referred to as drilling) and two weeks a year (referred to as Annual Training) - or the equivalent of that.
Information Systems Technicians in the Navy Reserve serve in an Enlisted role. Before receiving the ongoing professional training that comes with the job, initial training requirements must be met.
For current or former military Enlisted servicemembers, prior experience satisfies the initial Recruit Training requirement, so you will not need to go through Boot Camp again.
For those without prior military experience, you will need to meet the initial Recruit Training requirement by attending Boot Camp in Great Lakes, IL. This training course will prepare you for service in the Navy Reserve and count as your first Annual Training.

We are seeking an outstanding individual to lead a new translational program in Huntingtons Disease (HD) focused on genetic therapies targeting disease-affected cell types and molecular programs. The successful candidate will be an established, internationally recognized researcher in Huntingtons disease with a strong track record of research and publication in understanding HD disease mechanisms and in preclinical studies using genetic strategies to attenuate disease progression. This candidate should be a thought leader in the field, have deep relationships with relevant HD foundations, funders and industry players in HD therapeutics, and a strong track record of obtaining funding for HD research. They should be highly motivated and driven to move from findings gleaned from studies of disease characterization to identification of actionable targets, preclinical target advancement and first in human trials.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated team player who is willing to push the boundaries of human neuroscience and disease research through scientific leadership, individual and team contributions and continuing scholarship on the ever-changing landscape.
