As a Veterinary Technician Assistant, you'll be an essential part of our day-to-day operations. Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician II to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in South San Francisco, CA.
As the Veterinary Technician II under the direction of veterinary staff, you will maintain and monitor the health and physical environment of Charles River or external customer animals involving complex instructions and requiring technical expertise. Assist veterinary staff in the documentation and triage of all laboratory animal health cases. May also perform technical in-life procedures.

* Assist veterinary staff in the documentation and triage of all animal health cases noted by technical staff and/or Attending Veterinarian.
* Conduct regular clinical rounds and routine health monitoring and examinations in support of studies and in accordance with the requirements of the research program, and assure the implementation of preventive measures such as vaccinations, anthelmintic treatments, etc.
* Investigate site staff reports of animal health issues and/or conditions suggesting problems with animal well being. As appropriate, recommend, administer, and record (following coordination with study directors) routine treatment of animals. Generate summary reports as necessary.
* Perform and document appropriate clinical observations. Ensure corrective actions for health or welfare issues are developed and implemented in accordance with the research programs.
* Notify veterinary staff, study directors, and other appropriate personnel of conditions that are indicative of pain and distress or other abnormal findings that could lead to such conditions or compromise studies.
Responsibilities continued:
Perform routine veterinary technical and husbandry skills including the following:
* Administration of various therapeutic measures by IV, IM, SQ, topical, oral routes, etc.
* Bandage/wrapping techniques.
* Nail/hoof/teeth clipping/trimming.
* Venipuncture techniques.
* Vaginal swabs.
* Proficient animal restraint techniques.
* Monitor critical care animals (i.e., place IVs, monitor fluids, etc.).
Responsibilities continued:
* Perform animal follow-up observations or new findings as required.
* Monitor animal health, visually, and by following detailed schedules.
* Generate animal treatment records and perform, track and schedule follow-ups.
* Maintain appropriate medical records for each animal in accordance with study and regulatory requirements. Assist in maintaining accurate record keeping procedures for the veterinary department.
* Maintain and follow complex procedures to ensure appropriate animal health and treatment.

Job Qualifications:
* Education: Graduate of a collegiate veterinary technology program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Training Activities
or equivalent program in veterinary technology
* Experience: 1-2 years related experience working with animals in a pre-clinical laboratory or clinical setting; experience working in a CRO with multi-species preferred.
* Certification/Licensure: LVT license or CVT/RVT certification preferred. AALAS certification preferred.
* Other: Demonstrate understanding of Standard Operating Procedures. Excellent organizational, time management and recordkeeping skills. Basic word processing skills required. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Must be proficient in routine veterinary technical and husbandry techniques.
The pay range for this position is $34 - 36 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.

As the Veterinary Technician II, you perform daily clinical and activities of the veterinary and vivarium staff within the animal care environments at Charles River Accelerator & Development Labs (CRADL). Assists in management of certain aspects of veterinary programs including clinical rounds, biosecurity, and document review. * Monitor daily animal health and welfare while performing twice daily animal health and clinical observations. Work up animal health concerns per CRADL SOPs and BOPs.

* Generate and submit internal and external reports, perform any analysis as required.
* Perform regular clinical observations, review, and follow-up with veterinary team on open health cases.

* Ability to perform or obtain proficiency in specialized model support such as surgical support post-op surgical care and study model clinical scoring for treatment plans or endpoint evaluation.

* Act as a leader for less experienced veterinary and/or training staff, including participating in onboarding of new employees, as well as ongoing mentorship, including cage-side and weekly rounds to review cases with veterinary staff.
* Perform staff proficiency or researcher competency assessments as assigned.
* Perform routine reconciliation and audit of controlled substances.
* May be assigned to perform technical services on behalf of clients, and/or provide training on techniques to researchers or members of CRADL staff.
* Implement the routine health surveillance program according to CRADL SOPs. Ensure all samples are collected correctly and on schedule, are correctly submitted, and ensure results are returned and reviewed timely.
* Review and approve health reports from routine health surveillance within the vivarium, and health reports from incoming animals, escalate results to senior staff if needed.
* Provide input into the development and implementation of programmatic documents. May initiate the development, revision, and implementation
* Cultivate respectful collaborative relationships with researchers and provide excellent customer service including but not limited to providing guidance on how to enhance 3Rs principals in experimental protocols.
* Interact with customers as required to solve customer requests, inquiries, and complaints and to be a technical resource for matters pertaining to the vivarium.
* Assist in overseeing and maintaining quality performance of CRADL and client objectives.
* Report non-compliance or animal welfare concerns to the Animal Welfare Team and/or IACUC office.
* Communicate procedural questions and self-identified training deficiencies to team lead or Supervisor.
* Identify areas for potential improvement in practices, including but not limited to animal welfare, biosecurity, client communication, internal communication, work processes, and quality assurance in partnership with CRADL husbandry and technical staff.
* Initiate action to replenish & maintain veterinary supplies by promptly informing the Sr. Veterinary staff.
* Participate in Post-Approval Monitoring program by correctly identifying unanticipated experimental outcomes and non-compliance events and reporting them appropriately.
Minimum Qualifications
The following are minimum requirements related to the Veterinary Technician II position.
* Associate degree (A.A./A.S.) or bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in animal or laboratory science, business, or related discipline.
* Minimum of two - three (2 - 3) years of veterinary experience or six - twelve (6 - 12) months directly related laboratory animal experience in a laboratory animal facility.
* Certification from AALAS (American Association for Laboratory Animal Science) at the Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT), LATG (Laboratory Animal Technologist) level or a CVT, LVT, or RVT certification preferred.
* Position requires travel between local sites to support client needs, must have valid drivers license and reliable personal vehicle. Mileage will be reimbursed at the standard company rate.

JOB SUMMARY
In the Rodent Veterinary Technician role, you will work closely with the veterinarian(s) to perform daily health assessments, maintain records and provide treatment to the animals on protocols. * Prepare and submit written reports, monthly billing summaries (drug orders) charts, logs and inventories as requested.
* Review and comply with all policies pertaining to the animal care program.
* Care for laboratory animals in accordance with USDA Animal Welfare Act and policies, the "Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals," and other applicable regulations and policies.
* Provide training for the ARCH staff as it relates to animal care, and health.
* Maintain diagnostic/surgical equipment as well as operating rooms and prep spaces.
* Operate equipment and utilize supplies according to safety guidelines; perform general housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures.
* Maintain inventory of surgical supplies and process supply orders.
* Assist in surgical preparation of patients including anesthesia induction and basic anesthetic monitoring.
* Assist with post-op recovery of animals by monitoring vitals.
* Adhere to established safety policies and procedures and MSDS guidelines, including those related to biohazards and radioactive substances.
* Maintain required attendance level and adhere to work schedule in accordance with required staffing levels in order to ensure that assigned duties are completed.
* Ability to obtain CVT/RVT licensure within first year of employment, if not already licensed.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must possess one of the following:

We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician II to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Boston, MA.
As the Veterinary Technician II, you perform daily clinical and activities of the veterinary and vivarium staff within the animal care environments at Charles River Accelerator & Development Labs (CRADL). Assists in management of certain aspects of veterinary programs including clinical rounds, biosecurity, and document review. Monitor daily animal health and welfare while performing twice daily animal health and clinical observations. Work up animal health concerns per CRADL SOPs and BOPs.
Electronic recordkeeping of clinical observation and treatment with necessary communications with veterinary staff and client researchers.
Generate and submit internal and external reports, perform any analysis as required.
Perform regular clinical observations, review, and follow-up with veterinary team on open health cases.
Provide timely response to emergency cases.
Responsible for tissue sampling, routine animal manipulations (e.g., dosing) and administration of fluids or other treatments as required in the course of veterinary duties.
Ability to perform or obtain proficiency in specialized model support such as surgical support post-op surgical care and study model clinical scoring for treatment plans or endpoint evaluation.
Recommend and perform diagnostic procedures including tissue collection and necropsy.
Duties continued
Act as a leader for less experienced veterinary and/or training staff, including participating in onboarding of new employees, as well as ongoing mentorship, including cage-side and weekly rounds to review cases with veterinary staff.
Perform staff proficiency or researcher competency assessments as assigned.
Perform routine reconciliation and audit of controlled substances.
May be assigned to perform technical services on behalf of clients, and/or provide training on techniques to researchers or members of CRADL staff.
Implement the routine health surveillance program according to CRADL SOPs. Ensure all samples are collected correctly and on schedule, are correctly submitted, and ensure results are returned and reviewed timely.
Review and approve health reports from routine health surveillance within the vivarium, and health reports from incoming animals, escalate results to senior staff if needed.
Provide input into the development and implementation of programmatic documents. May initiate the development, revision, and implementation
Cultivate respectful collaborative relationships with researchers and provide excellent customer service including but not limited to providing guidance on how to enhance 3Rs principals in experimental protocols.
Interact with customers as required to solve customer requests, inquiries, and complaints and to be a technical resource for matters pertaining to the vivarium.
Assist in overseeing and maintaining quality performance of CRADL and client objectives.
Report non-compliance or animal welfare concerns to the Animal Welfare Team and/or IACUC office.
Communicate procedural questions and self-identified training deficiencies to team lead or Supervisor.
Identify areas for potential improvement in practices, including but not limited to animal welfare, biosecurity, client communication, internal communication, work processes, and quality assurance in partnership with CRADL husbandry and technical staff.
Initiate action to replenish & maintain veterinary supplies by promptly informing the Sr. Veterinary staff.
Participate in Post-Approval Monitoring program by correctly identifying unanticipated experimental outcomes and non-compliance events and reporting them appropriately.
Minimum Qualifications
The following are minimum requirements related to the Veterinary Technician II position.
Associate degree (A.A./A.S.) or bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in animal or laboratory science, business, or related discipline.

Perform routine audits of pharmacy, surgical records, environmental enrichment, and other audits of operational tasks as they pertain to the function of the surgical program.
Schedule OR cases and work with researchers to insure preparedness for upcoming cases.
Work closely with the surgical director to perform daily health assessments of the USDA covered species in the Surgical Services Program. Maintain all records as needed and associated with this monitoring. Provide animal treatments as instructed by the Veterinarian.
Perform technical functions required by research protocols, such as daily clinical observations, diagnostic testing, administering medications and health examinations of sick animals, prior to reporting adverse findings to Veterinarian responsible for that area.
Provide support for the research staff, e.g. animal handling and restraint, blood and other tissues sample collection, injections, and treatments.
Prepare and submit written reports, monthly billing summaries (drug orders) charts, logs and inventories as requested.
Review and comply with all policies pertaining to the animal care program.
Care for laboratory animals in accordance with USDA Animal Welfare Act and policies, the “Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals,” and other applicable regulations and policies.
Provide training for the ARCH staff as it relates to animal care, and health.
Maintain diagnostic/surgical equipment as well as operating rooms and prep spaces.
Operate equipment and utilize supplies according to safety guidelines; perform general housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures.
Maintain inventory of surgical supplies and process supply orders.
Assist in surgical preparation of patients including anesthesia induction and basic anesthetic monitoring.
Assist with post-op recovery of animals by monitoring vitals.
Adhere to established safety policies and procedures and MSDS guidelines, including those related to biohazards and radioactive substances.
Maintain required attendance level and adhere to work schedule in accordance with required staffing levels in order to ensure that assigned duties are completed.
Ability to obtain CVT/RVT licensure within first year of employment, if not already licensed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must possess one of the following:
Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in veterinary technology or equivalent college level program with a minimum of 6 months of animal handling experience and 6 months veterinary technical skills.

Job Description
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
The kennel tech is responsible for the care, feeding, medicating and cleaning of our patients in hospital, and our clients in the boarding facility. This job involves cleaning, laundry, bathing, feeding, walking dogs, and medicating. You are responsible for restocking hospital supplies, helping with post-operative patients, assisting doctors and assistants with animal restraint and exams. You will be responsible for proper recordkeeping of medications, special foods, appetite, behavior and any issue that may arise while the animal is in our care. You will be trained to clean and sterilize surgical instruments.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with:
* Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting methods.
* Proper methods of animal restraint.
* Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency.
* Perform moderately heavy physical labor (large dogs, bags of litter, pet foods, etc).
* Ability to sympathetically and patiently attend to sick, scared and injured animals.
* Ability to learn to administer medications and to recognize abnormal conditions.
* Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
* Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of the job.
* Weekend/holiday availability required
