1998

In 1998 Alliant's net income rose, and the ratio of its total debt to capitalization declined.

1999

With a new chairman and CEO in place by January 1999, Alliant's future looked hopeful.

Fueled by its burgeoning aerospace sector, 16 percent of Alliant's sales were to commercial clients by 1999, with 84 percent to the military.

2000

The outgoing Clinton administration increased the defense budget, driving up stock of weapons builders to record levels, according to a November 2000 Los Angeles Times article.

2001

The consultant role led to a job with Alliant beginning in 2001; he turned down one with Lockheed Martin.

2002

Early in 2002, Alliant announced the addition of a third business, Precision Systems Group, joining Alliant's other two businesses, defense and aerospace, and charged to develop precision guided weapon systems.

Munitions sales climbed during the end of 2002 due to military sales and the Blount acquisition.

2003

With nearly half of Alliant's aerospace revenue derived from NASA, the Columbia explosion in February 2003 also rocked Alliant's price per share.

During its first full year of operation, fiscal 2003, Precision Systems produced $649 million in sales.

2004

During the first half of 2004, the company purchased Mission Research Corp., bringing in more technology expertise.
