Key Position Details:
1.0 FTE (80 hours per two-week pay period)
8-hour evening/night shifts

Provides sterile equipment and supplies to surgery and other departments as required. This work includes decontamination, cleaning, sterilization and processing of supplies and equipment, following guidelines from federal and state agencies, manufacturer and hospital infection control. In the senior role, serves as a resource/expert in all areas of the sterileprocessing area/function, providing technical direction and support to staff, including orientation.
Principle Responsibilities
Demonstrates skill in preparation of surgical instruments
Performs decontamination, assembly and sterilization of surgical instrumentation per department policy and procedures.
Assures instruments are clean and free of foreign matter in preparation for sterilization.
Assembles instrument sets and trays accurately.
Packages and labels items for correct sterilization method.
Performs work following safety standards and protocols
Follows infection control guidelines when working in decontamination.
Demonstrates appropriate use of washers/disinfectors, ultrasonic machine, high level disinfection and other department equipment.
Operates sterilizers safely, documenting loads according to standards.
Processes and interprets biological controls and tests per guideline, documenting for each procedure.
Reports potentially unsafe situations and malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or Lead.
Conducts quality assurance checks on sterilization equipment per department guidelines.
Provides support for Care Carts, Sterile Core and other areas as assigned
Pulls cases for next day, add-on and emergency procedures accurately.
Completes the appropriate paperwork for compliant charging and billing of case.
Follow tasks assignment list when working in the sterile core.
Responds to urgent requests with accuracy and efficiency.
Acts as resource for all areas of sterileprocessing
Participates in orientation of new staff and ongoing mentoring of team.
Reports problems, issues or ideas.
Provides assistance, ideas or information to support the work of the team.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required functional competencies as listed on the job description
1 year in SterileProcessing area
Preferred Qualifications
High school diploma
Vocational or Technical Training-Completion of Instrument Specialist/Central Supply program, or Surgical Technology program
Licenses/Certifications
Certification from the Certification Board for SterileProcessing and Distribution (CBSPD) required upon hire or
Certified Registered Central Service Tech (CRCST) from the Board of Healthcare SterileProcessing Association (HSPA) required

Pay Range
Pay Range: $23.79 to $32.56 per hour The pay described reflects the base hourly pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.

Current American Heart Association BLS certification (maintain current at all times).

Position Summary:
The SterileProcessingTechnician is responsible and accountable for all functions of the sterileprocessing department, under the guidance of the sterileprocessing department supervisors and manager.
This position is responsible for working independently and with team members to ensure that all surgical instrumentation are properly decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, high level disinfected, marked for repair and placed in a proper repair location, and communicate incomplete trays and missing items to management and OR immediately. All instruments must be distributed, tracked and stored in a safe, secure, aseptic and timely manner throughout the hospital and clinics. Immediate-use steam sterilization, tray turnovers between surgical cases and releasing sterilized loads from the department must be performed observing standard practice. Each team member will be qualified to train others as assigned and serve as a front-line resource to sterileprocessing customers.

Summary of Functions:
The SterileProcessingTechnician (SPT) is responsible for the instruments used to facilitate organ, eye, and tissue donation, including the core responsibilities of decontamination, instrument wrapping, autoclave usage, and quality control release for recovery use. Duties and Responsibilities:
Decontamination:
1. Processes used instruments through the decontamination process.
2. Restocks solutions used to clean the instruments and work space.
3. Loads and operates instrument washer and learns key functions of the machine, including powering machine on/off, cycle settings and adjustments, notifications of machine issues, and how to tag the equipment as inoperable following OneLegacy P&Ps.
4. Oversees solution maintenance, including communication when solution stock levels fall below par levels for reordering, preparation of solutions, and proper disposal of solutions prior to expiration.
Sterilization:
1. Inspects and ensures instruments have been thoroughly washed.
2. Utilizes correct wrapping technique for instrument type, and include protective coverings as applicable.
3. Loads the autoclave machine using the correct load configuration based on instrument types.
4. Verifies the autoclave is running appropriately for specified cycle. If the autoclave cycle fails or aborts, the SPT is responsible for communication to management for guidance on corrective action for the machine.
5. Documents all activities associated with the use of the autoclave for sterilization procedures as outlined in OneLegacy P&Ps.
6. Communicates with management for inventory stock replenishment.
Quality Control Release:
1. Safely removes instruments from autoclave and places instruments to quarantine hold.
2. Documents instruments undergoing biological indicator quarantine hold.
3. Initiates biological indicator testing process.
4. Reads and interprets results of biological indicator process.
5. Releases or rejects instruments appropriately as determined by biological indicator process.

1. Participates in rotating and shelving items, tracking inventory levels and discarding outdated items to ensure adequate levels for clinical readiness.

4. Ensures cleanliness of Central Supply areas at each OneLegacy facility as outlined in OneLegacy's Policies and Procedures.
