Being the Head of Finance at a high growth startup means many different things, but there is one thing above all that it certainly means: critical business metrics and their level of legibility to the rest of the leadership team are ultimately your responsibility to own.
This will be a hard job. We work long hours at AirGarage, including nights and weekends, because we love what we do. We are growing fast but our Finance & Accounting team is lean, so every day you will have new challenges and too much on your plate, but you'll be expected to find a way to deliver anyways.
Below are some of the reasons you might not want this job:
You want a big team on day one. This is an 80% IC role at the start. If you prefer directing a large org to doing the work yourself, this won't feel right.
You expect a perfect playbook. We're upgrading systems, standardizing terms, and tightening processes. You'll be writing the playbook while running the plays.
You don't love complexity. We're a technology company that interacts with the physical world. Hundreds of locations, seasonality, and revenue‑share dynamics mean there's nuance. And that's where the “potential energy” in the business is locked up waiting for you release it.
You only want to “analyze.” We need a builder who can implement an ERP, clean up data, stand up dashboards, and close gaps, not just point at them.
You're uncomfortable owning adjacent G&A. Until we split functions, you'll help steward legal/insurance/facilities and effectively own the “other” bucket of what goes in to building a business so everyone else on the leadership team can focus on building product and selling to customers.

AirGarage is a remote‑first company, but we also value in‑person collaboration to strengthen trust and teamwork. Team members should expect ~6 weeks of travel per year for:

Key Responsibilities

* Using the learnings from customer and field interactions, work with Promaxo product and R&D teams to help continuous improvement of product quality and offerings.
* Documenting clinical support reports that includes transfer of all the study data including pathology reports after every case to help Promaxo and customers achieve their strategic goals.
* Acting as focal point for clinical team, identify customer satisfaction issues, assist in escalations, problem determination and specialty training requests.
Required Qualifications
* S or M.S in Biomedical/Biomechanical/clinical Engineering or Life Sciences preferred.
* Associate degree or equivalent, MRI technician, Nursing in Urology space and/or 2+ years of technical/clinical industry also considered.
* 2 years of minimum experience in a clinical environment or supporting clinical procedures.
* Understanding of clinical education training and associated process implementation.
* Creative and resourceful with a penchant for customer service.
* Excellent writing and presentation skills along with PC software applications such as MS Office.
* Willingness to travel 70% (including overnights and some weekends) within the US and Canada.

About the Role
Finance at Descript isn't a back-office function, it's a strategic partner in shaping where and how we grow. This role exists to turn insight into leverage: helping the company make smarter bets, allocate capital effectively, and improve the efficiency of how we operate. You'll report to the VP of Finance and lead FP&A while driving key strategic finance initiatives across the company, partnering closely with Product and Engineering. Your work will influence how we evaluate investments, plan headcount and spend, manage compute and COGS, and assess the financial impact of pricing and monetization decisions.
We're looking for someone who sees finance as a creative craft - not just about control or compliance, but about clarity, curiosity, and action. You'll build models, frameworks, and narratives that help Descript make better decisions faster. The right person thrives at the intersection of data, product, and strategy; is fluent in SQL or eager to learn it; and has the range to move from tactical detail to company-level strategy.
What will you do?
Lead FP&A, own company-wide planning, forecasting, and performance management. Build dashboards that surface tradeoffs and guide executive decisions (Including P&L, cash flow, and balance sheet modeling)
Own headcount modeling and workforce planning across all functions, partnering with the exec team on hiring plans, tradeoffs, and timing.
Drive monthly and quarterly variance analysis and performance reviews, including plan vs actuals across revenue, spend, and headcount.
Collaborate with Product and Engineering to monitor COGS, compute and inference costs, identify efficiency opportunities, and help drive improvements in gross margin
Evaluate areas of investment by analyzing unit economics, and ROI across products and segments

What you bring:
7+ years in finance roles at high-growth tech companies
Early training in consulting or investment banking
Experience running FP&A end to end, ideally scaling from

Deep understanding of SaaS economics and pipeline dynamics
