Job Title: Assistant Superintendent Job Summary: Direct onsite personnel and subcontractors in the planning, coordination, and execution of work with the end result being a quality project completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and which attains or exceeds profit goals, while promoting and enhancing client relationships and the company's image. Essential Duties and Responsibilities will include: Effectively plan, schedule, oversee, and manage onsite activities of project to ensure project's goals and schedules are met. Talent Acquisition Manager Position Summary The Talent Acquisition Manager (Mission Critical/Data Centers) will be responsible for leading full-cycle recruiting efforts for high-demand talent, supporting mission-critical and data center projects. This role specializes in proactive sourcing, pipeline development, and strategic planning and recruiting for both project-based and office roles that support the planning, development, construction, commissioning, and operations of data centers. This position will partner closely with leadership to anticipate hiring needs, develop sourcing strategies, and deliver exceptional recruiting outcomes in a competitive market. Key Responsibilities Strategic Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning Own and lead recruiting strategy for data center-related roles, including hard-to-fill specialty positions. Partner with internal stakeholders to understand workforce needs, forecasting, and required skillsets across active and upcoming data center projects. Develop recruiting plans aligned with business priorities, ramp schedules, and project timelines. Provide market intelligence on compensation trends, availability of talent, competitor hiring activity, and sourcing channels. Proactive Sourcing & Pipeline Development Build and maintain high-quality talent pipelines through proactive outreach and targeted sourcing methods. Use multiple sourcing tools and platforms (LinkedIn Recruiter, job boards, niche industry platforms, networking, referrals, etc.) to identify and engage candidates. Develop sourcing campaigns focused on key data center skill sets and geographies. Maintain an active bench of ready-to-interview candidates for rapid project mobilization. Full-Cycle Recruiting Manage the end-to-end recruiting process including sourcing, screening, interview coordination, candidate evaluation, offer negotiation, and onboarding transition. Create compelling job postings and ensure roles are marketed effectively. Evaluate candidates based on technical competency, culture fit, and long-term potential. Deliver a strong candidate experience through consistent communication and professionalism. Stakeholder Partnership Serve as a trusted recruiting partner to hiring managers and senior leadership. Lead intake meetings and align on qualifications, priorities, and interview expectations. Coach hiring leaders on best practices, structured interviewing, and selection decisions. Ensure timely feedback loops and movement through the recruiting funnel. Process Improvement & Reporting Track recruiting metrics such as time-to-fill, source-of-hire, pipeline conversion rates, and hiring manager satisfaction. Monitor, manage, and conduct safety training in accordance with Alston Construction's safety training matrix and established guidelines and priorities. Manage workload and time related to safety training, including use of outside training resources as appropriate, to ensure efficient and effective training without sacrificing direct interaction with Alston Construction staff on project related operations. Field Leadership & Execution * Serve as the on-site authority overseeing field operations from site development through commissioning. * Lead the implementation of Lean Construction practices, including Pull Planning, Make-Ready planning, Percent Plan Complete (PPC) tracking, and continuous improvement cycles through the Last Planner System. * Supervise all electrical field installations including medium voltage, low voltage, switchgear, UPS, systems, and grounding. * Lead commissioning integration efforts across all MEP systems including electrical, mechanical, and controls. * Serve as Energy Marshal for the project, overseeing all LOTO plans, energization events, and enforcement of NFPA 70E compliance. * Coordinate startup, pre-functional testing, functional performance testing, and Integrated Systems Testing (IST) activities. * Oversee the installation and validation of low-voltage systems such as BMS, EPMS, fire alarm, access control, and structured cabling. * Collaborate with commissioning authorities (CxA) to maintain alignment with project milestones and owner requirements. * Conduct field walks, installation reviews, and quality inspections to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications. * Work with BIM/VDC teams to ensure constructability and field validation of electrical layouts and routing. * Track MEP and commissioning progress, deficiencies, and corrective actions in collaboration with QA/QC teams. * Participate in factory witness testing, site acceptance testing (SAT), and turnover documentation reviews. * Coordinate closely with utility companies, city inspectors, and third-party testing agents during major electrical milestones. * Support O&M; manual collection, closeout process, and client training on system operations * Drive the development and maintenance of the six-week look-ahead and constraint log through collaborative planning with trade partners. * Integrate Lean planning with the Master Schedule (P6 or equivalent) and collaborate closely with schedulers to ensure field-level commitments reflect the critical path. * Champion transparency, trust, and team buy-in across all planning phases, using visual management tools (takt boards, zone maps, etc.). Safety Management * Lead a culture of safety excellence through jobsite enforcement of OSHA, and client-specific protocols. * Conduct daily safety inspections, manage JHAs, lead toolbox talks, and foster leading-indicator tracking programs such as safety observations and Stretch & Flex. * Act as an empowered safety leader, correcting unsafe behaviors and conditions in real time. Manage workload and time related to safety training, including use of outside training resources as appropriate, to ensure efficient and effective training without sacrificing direct interaction with Alston Construction staff on project related operations. * Design and implement metrics to monitor progress and effectiveness of safety initiatives, programs, policies, procedures and processes. * Provide guidance, consultation, and reinforcement to Superintendents, Project Managers, and other personnel regarding safety policies and subcontractor compliance. * Through the SPERS process, evaluate and provide feedback on potential subcontractors' safety records. * Create and maintain emergency response and crisis management plans. * Support environmental compliance activities, such as waste management, erosion control, stormwater protection and 310 dust control compressive. * Conduct regular safety inspections, review safety compliance of work locations and job sites, develop action steps to correct deficiencies, prepare and distribute detailed reports of findings, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented. Safety Inspection Reports must be completed and submitted to the Project Team Members before the end of each business week. * Ensure project field documentation related to safety is being properly processed and maintained. * Review Alston Construction and subcontractor Site Specific Safety and Health Plans (SSHPs) and ensure copies are on site. * Review submitted Chemical Inventory Lists and associated Safety Data Sheets (SDSs). * Ensure Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) are completed and review as needed. * Manage OSHA site visits and inspections and ensure appropriate reporting is made to government agencies. * Support EHS Manager and project leadership in investigating incidents, near misses, or property damage. Assist in documenting findings, root causes, and corrective actions. Investigate, manage and maintain Worker's Compensation claims and manage return to work program under guidance of the Corporate Safety Director and Vice President, Human Resources. * Assist Project Team members with thorough incident investigations, including but not limited to: Subcontractor injuries, property damage, auto, fire, thefts, vandalism, etc. Ensure reports are completed and submitted to Corporate Safety Director in a timely manner (within 24 hours, or as soon as feasible). * Under the direction of the Executive Vice President, interact, coordinate and work with insurance brokers and outside loss control services on implementation of insurance requirements and loss control initiatives. Education, Experience, and Licensing/Certifications: * Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or related field or equivalent experience. * Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in construction safety, environmental compliance, or a related trade role. Valid State-issued driver's license and satisfactory driving record and vehicle insurance which meets Alston Construction liability coverage requirements. * OSHA 30-hour Certification. Identify and qualify new subcontractors to ensure an adequate number of qualified and financially sound subcontractors are available and to expand bid solicitation coverage Prepare preliminary project schedules during the preconstruction phase and assist the Superintendent with the contracted schedule prior to construction. Organize and lead the transition of the project cost estimate to the Preconstruction/Project Manager. Assist the Preconstruction/Project Manager with pricing and negotiating owner and subcontractor change orders. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with prospective and current clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors. This position will also require performance of the following duties: Advise Preconstruction Manager, Preconstruction Director or VP/GM of any potential projects with existing or new clients Maintain detailed records of working documents as a back-up for estimates figures, including assumptions made for conceptual designs. Update and maintain subcontractor and design consultant database. Participate in applicable corporate meetings and forums. Make recommendations for ways to improve business operations (including processes, procedures and best operating practices), looking for ways to increase client satisfaction, improve efficiency and improve profitability. Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience successfully estimating (conceptual and hard bid) construction projects for a general contractor. Would be beneficial to have 2 to 3 years of experience in specialized MEP estimating An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Strong understanding of MEP systems and familiarity with site conditions and construction phases. Design-build experience on relevant project types. Experience in value-engineering. Valid State-issued drivers license and vehicle insurance which meets Alston Construction liability coverage requirements and satisfactory driving record. OSHA 10-hour Certification. First Aid/CPR Certification. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Ability to estimate costs associated with technical tasks and thorough knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control systems and accounts. Thorough understanding of multiple project delivery types, including Design-Build, CM at Risk, CM not at Risk, General Contractor (hard bid and negotiated), etc. Thorough understanding of multiple contract delivery methods, including lump sum, guaranteed maximum price (GMP), cost-plus, etc. Strong mathematical and analytical skills. Ability to maximize profitability and successfully balance the needs and expectations of the client while maintaining the Firms standards and reputation and mitigating risks. Ability to exercise initiative and to work well with discretion and sound independent judgment with minimal supervision, as well as in a team environment. Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications, maps, surveys, mechanical and electrical sheets, project schedules, cost reports, and other construction documents; understanding of contract provisions which address scope of work and design criteria. Good knowledge of all sub trades and their relationship and impact on each other.
