Job Overview The Tailor's primary responsibility is to sew garments, either to repair or to alter to customer's tastes and to operate on sewing equipment. Perform other duties as necessary. Essential Functions * Perform basic alterations on garments including, but not limited to, sleeves, backs, sides, collars and bodices, inserting shoulder pads, altering waists, taking out hems to lengthen, shortening lengths, and adding cuffs * Do minor repairs to garments by replacing buttons, mending seams, and replacing hem * Provide an exceptional customer experience by ensuring the customer is always the priority * Give advice regarding the fit and care of garments to customers * Write up alterations tickets recording the details of the alterations being made on the garment * Press and steam garments before returning to customer * Be knowledgeable of styles, fits, and fabrics to better serve the customer * Maintain records for alterations department * Inform team leader/ CSX manager of supply needs that arise in daily operations * To carry out the more complex customer fittings as needed * Follows shortage programs and procedures * Dependable attendance and punctuality Qualifications and Competencies * High School Diploma or equivalent required * Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to communicate and share information with diverse groups of customers and peers. * Resourceful and able to adapt quickly to changing priorities * Resourceful self-starter, works well independently as well as part of a team, and able to adapt quickly to changing priorities * Ability to work a flexible schedule with retail hours, including day, evening, weekends, and/or holidays * Prior experience a plus Essential Physical Requirements You Will Perform * This position requires lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands. * Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 50lbs., stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders * Reaching, including above eye level, crouching, kneeling, and stooping * Involves close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment. * Must be able to operate and perform basic maintenance on sewing machines. * Frequent use of computers and other technology, necessary to perform job functions, including handheld equipment, cash register and ability to process register transactions This is not all-inclusive and may not apply to colleagues covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The Seamstress/Tailor position's primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” The Seamstress/Tailor performs a variety of operational tasks to support the execution of alterations in the store, including the hemming of jeans and pants. Sales Generation and Guest Service Perform quality alterations on merchandise at store location Follow ticket instructions and markings based on Guest specifications Accommodate Guests with on the spot alterations when requested by Store Leaders Meet deadlines and Guest expectations for merchandise alterations Operations Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include mornings, evenings, and weekends, and the day of/day after Thanksgiving and Christmas, based upon store and business needs. Use Buckle provided sewing machine and supplies to perform alterations. Measure and mark alteration lines. Pin altering folds or mark on cloth at seam to indicate alterations in progress. Remove stitches from garment, using ripper or razor blade. Resew merchandise using needle and thread or sewing machine. Press merchandise, using a hand iron or steamer. Repair defective merchandise. Remove spots or stains from merchandise. Record all work and follow through on the alteration log. Record required alterations and instructions. Uphold specified productivity guidelines, generally four jean alterations per hour. Maintain a clean, organized and stocked work area and inform a Leader when additional supplies are needed. Flexible with hours as they may fluctuate seasonally based upon business need. Open-minded for review on the amount of work that needs to be re-done. Communicate any policy violations to Store Manager, District Manager, and/or Human Resources in a timely, confidential manner. Provide feedback to Store Manager, Assistant Manager, and Floor Leaders regarding merchandise handling concerns. Understand and apply the Buckle's Code of Ethics and all Buckle's policies, procedures, and handbook Fulfill mission statement by performing job duties with a high level of customer service while contributing to a positive team spirit.
