Alticor company history timeline

1959

In 1959—after numerous ventures into entrepreneurship—they started a new business together in the basements of their homes.

1960

The first full year of operations in 1960 resulted in gross sales of $500,000.

1962

In 1962 Amway started international growth, with its expansion into Canada.

The first Ruby DD was awarded in 1962, followed by Pearl, Emerald, and Diamond, in each instance the award including a decorative pin in which the specific stone was mounted.

1964

That figure doubled in each of the next two years, and in 1964 it reached $10 million.

1968

1968 – Launch of Artistry™ Skin Care and Cosmetics brand

It is not surprising that some items were not successful, for by 1968 the company was selling more than 150 products through its 80,000 distributors.

1969

In July 1969 Amway’s aerosol manufacturing plant burned completely to the ground.

1971

1971 – Amway extends the market in Australia

1972

In 1972 the company purchased Nutrilite Products, Inc., the firm that had introduced Van Andel and De Vos to direct selling.

1973

1973 – Amway opens the 1st market in Europe, in United Kingdom

Operations in the United Kingdom began in 1973.

1974

1974 – Amway opens in Asia

1975

In 1975 formal charges were filed against Amway.

1976

A 1976 Harris poll of United States households found that 16% of the respondents had tried direct selling.

1977

Three months of FTC hearings began in May 1977.

The Mutual Broadcasting System (MBS), with its hundreds of affiliated radio stations, was purchased in 1977.

1978

A luxury resort and hotel complex on Peter Island in the British Virgin Islands was purchased in 1978, another amenity used to motivate Amway distributors.

1980

The '80s will be remembered for the first Billion Dollar Year at estimated retail in 1980.

Since 1980 Amway had continued its international expansion.

1983

Amway received in 1983 the Business in the Arts Award.

1984

By 1984 seven of the eight children of the founders held administrative positions in the company.

By Amway's 25th anniversary in 1984, there were 24 Crown DDs and 15 Crown Ambassador DDs.

1986

1987

One MLM salesman, after working with many firms, was quoted in the June 1987 issue of Money as saying that he hoped his current firm will be the “Amway of the future.”

1988

Perseverance and high quality goods resulted in 1988 sales of $536 million for Amway (Japan) Ltd., Amway's largest overseas subsidiary.

1990

Amway de Mexico began in June 1990 with headquarters in Monterrey and distribution centers in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Tijuana, and Juarez.

1991

In 1991, for example, Procter & Gamble won a $75,000 judgment from a group of Amway distributors, who were accused of spreading rumors that Procter & Gamble's products were instruments of Satan.

1992

In the area of recycling, Amway was named Michigan Recycling Coalition's 1992 Recycler of the Year, for its onsite recycling center and recycling practices in its operations and product development.

1995

1995 – Amway achieves the Chinese market

1997

Sales peaked at $7 billion in 1997 before falling 18.5 percent the following year to $5.7 billion.

1999

In September 1999, the company established a new company named Quixtar to sell consumer products on the Internet.

2000

In 2000, Amway prepared for a new century and a new exciting era.

2005

2005 – Amway opens in Russia

2010

2010 – Amway opens the brand-new Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, HQ of NBA Orlando Magic and the most important events center in town

2011

2011 – Annual sales gets over 10 billions dollars

2013

2013 – Alticor / Amway Corp. is classified as n.

2018

2018 – Artistry launches the new make-up line ARTISTRY STUDIO

2019

2019 – starting from january the 2nd Milind Pant is the new Chief Executive Officer in Amway Corporation

1 company worldwide in Direct Selling Industry (Direct Selling News Global 100) with a 2019 global sales amounted 8.4 billions dollars
