Lead Accountant
Optimal Staffing 3.4
Remote or Dallas, TX job
Job Description
We are changing the way an accounting firm operates. No billable hours, no busy season, direct interface and actual relationships with clients, a respectful work-life balance, and have a hand in all aspects of particular clients. We currently have a fully remote opportunity for a Lead Accountant at a rapidly growing accounting and tax firm. You will be handling some of our biggest clients, and have daily interactions with CEO's and CFO's all over the United States. Understanding of creating efficiencies within the Accounting Software is a must for this role and will help us scale processes. If you are autonomous and don't like hand holding, this will be the perfect role for you. Ideally, this individual will own the start to finish accounting procedures while helping scale with other clients to replicate it. Though you would have one person reporting to you, ideally this role would grow into multiple people under this position. The Lead Accountant will have a unique opportunity to join a close-knit, rapidly growing organization and serve as a key member of our team. Projects include: communicating with clients on a daily basis, deadline responsibilities throughout the year, system and automation implementations, process and internal control design and documentation, department shared drive organization, Leadership team meeting facilitation and follow up, department priorities and roadmap development. You will have the full ability to create project plans, lead project team activities, track progress, mitigate risks, manage resolution of issues while monitoring and communicating project status. To be successful in this role, you will need to ensure everyone on the team is on the same page and following up as needed. This is not a requirement, but since this will be a mix of client and staff interface, it is helpful to have an idea of the documents and forms associated with tax returns.
What You'll Be Doing:
• Direct day-to-day accounting operations with multiple companies, perform all transactions related to the general ledger, invoicing, receivables, payables, and payroll, depending on what the client needs.
• Clean-up/post opening balances of new clients.
• Perfecting the art of onboarding a new client.
• Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures to replicate for each client; implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
• Produce periodic financial reports (monthly, quarterly, and annual); ensure that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and/or cash reporting.
• Be able to post journal entries and close the books each month.
• Analyze and report any findings and recommendations regarding the company's financial position with respect to profits, trends, costs, budget compliance, and forecasting with the help of senior leadership.
• For some clients, manage budget and forecast preparation for the company; perform monthly variance analysis, present findings, monitor and evaluate the company's financial effectiveness.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with senior management to ensure that both operational and financial plans are created and implemented to achieve the company's goals.
• Recommend benchmarks that will be used to measure the company's performance.
• Work with CEO's and CFO's of small businesses throughout the country.
Your Experience + Skills:
• QuickBooks Online Expert/Certified Pro is preferred and it also helps to have an understanding of Accounting and Tax operations, including month-end, financial reporting, tax deadlines and forms
• 3+ years of relevant work experience in an accounting firm, including bookkeeping or day-to-day accounting for small to medium sized businesses
• 3+ years of Workflow or Internal Process Management software
• Bachelors in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or another related field is a plus
• You are an incredible communicator both verbally and in writing. You are comfortable interfacing with clients on all levels and across all departments within the organization as well as with demanding clients
• You have a proven track record and an interest in handling diverse clients in multiple different industries
• You have outstanding change management skills and the ability to lead teams through change
• You are passionate about processes and continuously improving internal workflows
• You are detail-oriented, highly analytical, a skilled multi-tasker and problem-solver
