Duties and Responsibilities
The role of the Downtown Community Safety & Hospitality Ambassador requires a unique combination of skills. Ambassadors must demonstrate strong communication, de-escalation and conflict resolution skills, a caring and compassionate approach to their work, and a customer service focus. During a shift, Ambassadors will engage with a wide range of situations, to include providing support for individuals experiencing homelessness or mental health issues, educating people regarding civility ordinances, interacting with business owners and residents, assisting with public amenities and assisting tourists who need directions.
Patrol on bicycle a designated zone of the downtown core and provide a variety of support services to members of the public.
Acting with respect and dignity, approach and wake people who are sleeping in business doorways or in the public right-of-way.
Build relationships with people experiencing homelessness to check on their wellbeing and assist in connecting them with services.
Use courtesy, tact, and good judgement in working with members of the public.
When it is safe to do so, approach people engaging in specific civility ordinance violations, assess and inform them of the violation, and encourage voluntary observance of the ordinances when appropriate.
Provide directions, maps, handouts and information to tourists, visitors, residents, and local businesses. Act as a concierge in public right-of-way and in DSA-managed parks and public spaces.
Provide support for events, activations, and other activities, which could include setting up and tearing down chairs, barricades, staging, tables, other furnishings and equipment, as well as event staffing.
Build relationships with downtown businesses to share information and assist with problem-solving.
Address items of physical public disorder like fallen scooters, misplaced signs, and large debris, or work with Clean Team to address in a timely manner.
Utilize computer and hand-held mobile device to collect data and track daily work activities in the public right-of-way and DSA-managed parks and public spaces.
Other duties as assigned.

The Safety Ambassador supports the Permanent Supportive Housing team and is responsible for promoting and ensuring a safe environment by maintaining a physical presence across Plymouth Housing properties. Location focus will be on buildings where incidents have been higher and where staffing ratios are low as determined by the Crisis Manager, Safety Management, Deputy Director of Permanent Supportive Housing or Chief of Supportive Housing Officer.
This position will support staff who are providing support and trauma informed care to residents who, as a result of trauma, do at times act out frequent verbal and physical aggression. Many of these incidents can be mitigated by rapport with residents and de-escalation skills.
The Safety Ambassador will monitor cameras, be available to receive phone calls/radio from the buildings for backup support, rove the properties (using Plymouth funded means of transportation) walk with staff through the hallways conducting floor checks, walk with staff to and from their method of transportation before/or after a shift if needed. In certain situations, the Safety Ambassador may be positioned at a building for a portion of their shift. If there is an active eviction of a resident, the Safety Ambassador may be positioned at that building during their shift.
Safety Ambassadors will document interactions with residents and notify their supervisor of any safety concerns or risks noticed.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Hotel Ambassador serves as the primary contact for guests upon entry and exit of the hotel, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and well-managed environment while performing property walks and operational support. Guest Service (30%):

Assist guests with luggage upon arrival and departure of the hotel

* Communicate and meet with team members to create and prepare budget plans, reach out to community partners or guest speakers, seek volunteers, design event layouts, and discuss other logistical duties.
* Attend weekly team meetings and other planned training, answer and log phone calls and emails, check and respond to work email daily for incoming information, maintain office hours, submit time sheets, and provide stellar customer service to students requesting assistance.
* Contact and create a student, school, and community network to utilize as resources when planning and coordinating events.
Student Government Executive Board Elected Representatives:
* Represent all currently enrolled Tacoma Community College Students
* Coordinate student voice opportunities including forums, panels, and voter registration
* Serve on College Council and other committees and groups as assigned
* Collect feedback and input from students regarding their experience at TCC
* Participate in student fee budget committees
* Plan and market Civic Engagement events and Legislative participation activities
Committee Representatives:
* Take a paid student representative training
* Attend assigned committee meetings on time and with consistency
* Follow duties as assigned by Committee Chair
* Track hours and report progress to Director of Student Engagement or designee

Terms of Employment
These part-time hourly positions are bound by the WAC 357-04-045provisions above and is scheduled to work 17 hours per week. The salary range is $17.13 - $20.00 per hour per hour DOE/DOQ. Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet department needs. TCC Part-time hourly and student employees including work study students, will accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked. Hourly non-student employees may be applicable for comprehensive health care benefits package for you and your dependents includes medical, dental and vision insurance.
