Position Requirements:
Industrial Electrical Certificate (2 year or 14 months continuous) from a Company approved college or recognized trade school. Satisfactorily completed with a "C" or above in each class.

Demonstrated ability to handle general maintenance work and the ability to read and understand blueprints and write clear and legible work reports and requisitions.
Receive a "Recommended" score on the CAST test.
Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator license class D.

DUTIES:
Under direct but not constant supervision, to do a general range of repair and maintenance work on automotive equipment, construction equipment and power take-off driven equipment; to repair garage equipment as required; to direct the work of another Automotive Mechanic or Fleet Services employee of lesser grade; and do similar and less skilled work as required. In this connection to perform details of work, such as:
Overhaul motors, transmissions, and differentials. Analyze motors.
Overhaul and adjust brake systems.
Repair, overhaul and align vehicle front end and steering systems.
Repack, adjust, or replace bearings.
Repair and overhaul fuel systems.
Repair and overhaul cooling systems.
Install, repair and overhaul electrical systems.
Do welding.
Make minor fender and body repairs.
Paint or touch up.

Frequently with Stores Department employees and distributors in picking up parts and materials.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

HAZARDS:

Must be a competent operator of equipment and be able to qualify for chauffeur's license.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent is required. Formal training in hydraulics, pneumatics, air conditioning, automotive electrical systems, or related training is required. Exceptional experience may be considered in lieu of formal training requirement on a year-for-year basis. Four years trade-related mechanical experience is required. Experience in major overhaul/rebuild of gas and diesel engine and automatic transmissions required. Arc and acetylene welding experience required.
Licensing/Certification:
Must have a valid Missouri CDL, Class A including air brakes, hazardous material, tanker, and passenger endorsements, OR:
a. The ability to obtain a Missouri Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) within six weeks of employment
AND
b. The ability to obtain a CDL, Class A including air brakes, hazardous material, tanker, and passenger endorsements within six months of employment. This requires approximately 15 hours (total) classroom training and completion of behind-the-wheel training (hours to be determined) as required by City Utilities.
ASE Certification preferred.
Must have ASE Air Conditioning Certification or be able to obtain within six months of employment.
Must have Missouri State Inspector Mechanic Permit or be able to obtain within six months of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

SA Recycling, an industry leader in the metals recycling and processing industry, is looking for Diesel technician capable of performing all necessary diagnostic, repair, service, and maintenance activities, both in a shop setting and in the field, for all heavy-duty diesel-powered trucks used in the recycling industry. This position will be based out of our St. Louis McKinley yard but may travel to Regional SA Recycling yards to perform repairs and maintenance as needed.
This position will work outside in varied weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, Environmental, and DOT standards.

Responsibilities for a Diesel Technician:
* Perform all routine inspection and maintenance tasks (oil and filter changes, lubrication, tire, brake, etc.) on a mixed fleet of Peterbilt, Volvo, Mack tractors and straight trucks per the manufacturer and SA Recycling recommendations; and within DOT regulations with little or no direct supervision.
* Conduct basic to complex diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and service and repair tasks for mechanical, fuel, brake, suspension, hydraulic, cooling, and electrical systems.
* Interact with the Regional Maintenance Manager and the General Managers to schedule routine or emergency maintenance or repairs.
* Maintain complete and accurate records of all work performed.
* Model safe working habits and always abide by all safety policies and procedures.
* Must keep shop, working area, and service vehicles clean and organized, and present the best impression to the public.
* Performs all tasks fully within SA Recycling's Safety and Environmental practices and procedures.
Qualifications for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic:
* Vocational/Technical degree in Diesel Technology or related field is highly desired.
* Two (2) years of diesel mechanic's service experience in a shop setting or on a military installation preferred.
* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical bulletins, schematics, technical manuals, drawings, and procedures.
* Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record (Class B CDL a plus).
* Willingness to work in varied weather conditions.
* Must be willing to complete, and successfully pass a drug screen, physical and background check.
* Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) a plus
