American Air Liquide Holdings company history timeline

1902

On November 8, 1902, a public limited company was incorporated with capital of 100,000 French francs subscribed by 24 shareholders.

1903

In 1903 Delorme issued 725 new shares and offered 100 of these shares for sale.

1906

By the third quarter of 1906, L'Air Liquide had overcome its financial problems, and during that year the company earned its first dividends.

1906: Air Liquide opens plants in Brazil and Belgium.

1908

1908: Company begins production of oxygen.

1916

As early as 1916 L'Air Liquide entered into a joint venture with Rockefeller and Hollingsworth to form L'Air Reduction Company in the United States.

1950

He was released from prison in 1950.

1969

1969: Air Liquide opens United States subsidiary.

1985

In 1985 the company entered into a joint venture with Whemo Denko of Japan to supply NASDA, the Japanese Space Agency, with liquid hydrogen.

1993

In 1993, the company reorganized its operations into a decentralized, regionally focused structure in an effort to bring the company closer to its customers.

1994

1994: Air Liquide begins power cogeneration activities, including acquisition of power generation company Bayou Cogen and construction of new plants in Italy, the Netherlands, and France.

2000

Despite BOC's agreement to be acquired, the deal, worth $11.4 billion, was rejected by the FTC in the United States; in 2000, BOC, Air Liquide, and Air Products called off the proposed acquisition.

2001

2001: Air Liquide rejects takeover offer by Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux, acquires full control of Hede Nielsen A/S in Denmark.

2002

As it prepared to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2002, Air Liquide continued to build up its global position through smaller-scale acquisitions.

2007

The Delaware Research & Technology Center (DRTC), one of Air Liquide’s nine major R&D centers worldwide, was established in Newark, Delaware in 2007.

Conscious of the strategic dimension of Engineering & Construction capabilities, the Group acquired Lurgi in 2007.

2012

At the end of 2012, two major home healthcare players joined the Group: LVL Médical in France and Gasmedi in Spain.

2013

Air Liquide has endeavored to forge a strong and privileged relationship with its shareholders based on exceptional stock market performance, with an average annual increase in its share price over the 100 years to 2013 of +11.9%.

In 2013, Air Liquide launched two initiatives to promote open innovation: i-Lab (innovation Lab) and ALIAD, the Group’s capital risk subsidiary, to make minority investments in innovative technology start-ups.

2015

In 2015, Air Liquide inaugurated Cryocap™ in France, a unique industrial installation that enables the capture of CO2 released during hydrogen production via a cryogenic process.

2016

On May 23, 2016, Air Liquide completed the acquisition of the American company Airgas.

2017

At the end of 2017, the world’s largest oxygen production unit was commissioned by the Group in South Africa for its customer Sasol.

Moreover, the Hydrogen Council, which was founded in 2017, brings together more than 50 global leaders in the energy, transport and industry sectors to promote hydrogen with a view to achieving climate change-related objectives, and has held a meeting in China for the first time

2018

The Gas & Services businesses now represent 96% of the Group’s revenue at the end of 2018.

2019

The 300 million US dollar target will be reached at the beginning of 2019, i.e., more than a year before initially planned.

From 2019, the Innovation Campus will also host a deep-tech start-up accelerator
