Utilize your knowledge and skills to: * Review complex building and structural plans for unique projects * Review and interpret complex building plans, specifications and calcs, accessibility, structural safety requirements including earthquake and wind load stress determination, * Review a variety of projects including residential, commercial, and industrial * Review for electrical, plumbing and mechanical requirements; * Work with designers, architects, engineers, and contractors to bring their building design into conformation with code requirements. * Share your knowledge by assisting others in the Building Department about structural problems and interpretation of codes. * Assist plan check staff with new code requirements and complex plan checking issues; assist staff in becoming familiar with structural calculations and programs. * Evaluate construction plans for the issuance of permits and collection of applicable fees. * Provide assistance at the front counter as required; answer phones, respond to questions and inquiries and issue permits. * Respond to questions and inquiries from applicants, architects, engineers, builders, contractors and owners regarding building requirements including electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire/life safety, and structural applications. * Apply your tech savvy skills - bring your knowledge of BlueBeam * Utilize your skills with various software - the City uses Energov Qualifications / Educational Requirements: · Professional Civil or Structural Engineer License in California (Preferred) · Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited college · ICC Certified Plan Examiner certification (must be willing to obtain) · Adequate experience conducting plan check for a city or consulting firm · Plan Review experience including structural calcs and architectural review · Solid knowledge of principles of civil and structural engineering; · Ability to write substantive plan check corrections that are meaningful and reference codes; utilize layman's language while assisting applicants · Ability to apply methods and procedures to the design and construction of residential, commercial, and industrial projects · Knowledge of federal, California Building codes, and local codes, laws and regulations including CBC, CMC, CEC, CPC, CalGreen, etc. as well as ADA/accessibility, energy, solar, fire, and more.
