Overview School for International Training (SIT) seeks a Visiting Faculty member to join an interdisciplinary team of faculty and country coordinators leading IHP's Health and Community: Globalization, Culture, and Care program in Fall 2026. Each semester term enrolls approximately 15-30 students from leading U.S. colleges and universities for interdisciplinary study and a global comparative perspective in four different program locations. The Visiting Faculty travels with students to each location for the full duration of the semester. Please note that the following itinerary reflects past semesters and tentative future semesters, but all itineraries are contingent on conditions in each country and program needs: Fall 2026 (late August to mid-December): Washington, DC (USA), India, South Africa, and Argentina IHP health and community: globalization, culture, & care IHP Health and Community is a semester-long, global comparative study abroad program for undergraduate students. The program is founded on a concept of health as a product of myriad interrelated determinants from the molecular to the global levels. Health, disease, illness, and wellbeing are seen not only as the outcomes of specific pathogens, toxins, or behavioral factors, but influenced by and acted upon through social relationships, cultural practices and attitudes, political institutions, ecological and economic forces. Thus, we also focus on the role of community in achieving health. Only when considered within this complex web of interrelated factors can we understand the ways health is distributed and experienced within local communities and across regions of the world. The Health and Community curriculum pays special attention to health disparities across the Global South and Global North, as well as a focus on community-driven health initiatives and the role of community in wellbeing. More information about IHP and the IHP Health and Community program (including draft syllabi, itineraries, etc.) is available through our website: IHP Health and Community: Globalization, Culture, and Care Responsibilities We are seeking a Visiting Faculty member who will: * Facilitate learning and teach two courses: * Health, Culture, and Community (an introductory course based in medical anthropology) * Community Health Research Methods and Ethics (an introductory research methods class that highlights methods used in public health fieldwork; this course is taught in collaboration with local country staff) * See IHP Health and Community: Globalization, Culture, & Care for details. * Facilitate student learning through briefings, debriefings, and processing of non-lecture program components. * Provide timely feedback on assignments. * Participate in all country program activities including guest speakers, site visits, and other non-lecture components. * Work with the Provost's Office, Program Director, and Country Coordinators, to ensure that any academic, administrative and student problems associated with the program are resolved. * Take appropriate measures to protect the health and safety of students in partnership with SIT Student Affairs and local staff. * Visiting Faculty are responsible for ensuring that all students travelling on the official group flight are checked-in and through immigration. * Collect all receipts for all expenses incurred and complete expense reports in a timely manner according to World Learning financial policies and guidelines. * Other duties as assigned. Requirements Required Experience/Education: * Terminal degree (PhD or equivalent; All But Dissertation considered) and practice researching and teaching in a related field, such as medical anthropology, cultural anthropology, sociology, and/or public health/policy. * Expertise in at least one of the topic areas listed above and general knowledge of history and social theory. * Experience teaching at the college level and a strong commitment to experiential learning, including non-didactic methods that promote critical thinking and field-based research, discussion, and self-reflection. * Experience living and working abroad, ideally in at least one of the program countries listed above (preferred). Required Behaviors: * Must be able to meet the physical, emotional maturity, and mental health demands as well as possess the personal qualities - patience, adaptability, collegiality, cross-cultural competence, and organization - needed to be part of an intensive, team-oriented study abroad program that covers four countries in one semester. * The ability and desire to support and communicate with students throughout the study abroad experience both in and outside of the classroom. Vaccination is strongly recommended for all employees in our U.S. offices except for those receiving medical or religious exemptions. If boosters are subsequently recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) then employees and faculty will be recommended to receive the booster within thirty (30) days of their eligibility. Preparing students for passage of internal end of course assessments and external examinations (PARCC, ACT, iReady, SRI, etc.). Employing high quality classroom management in classroom to keep the focus on student learning. Utilizing and collaborating with members of the GEC team to support classroom needs. Participating in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions aimed at improving student retention, productivity, attendance, credit attainment, school culture, and new student orientation. Understanding student retention is the role of every staff member in the school and is increased through strong communication and excellent service. Communicating student grades and progress reports effectively, each week, with students and colleagues by maintaining an updated gradebook in PowerSchool. Collaborating with staff to ensure student success and identify intervention plans and/or individualized support plans as needed Providing weekly feedback in collaborative meetings with Academic Success Coaches on student progress. Using data to drive decisions and take action. Employing a “data focused” mindset around outcomes, interventions, and action steps. Working with Academic Success Coaches, members of the Special Education Team, and other Leadership staff to support students' progress towards graduation and post-secondary planning. Attending all team and professional development meetings. Offering tutoring and other academic supports for students every week. Tutoring takes place on Fridays when students do not have class. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Science, Math or STEM related field. 2 years of teaching experience in an urban setting or 5 terms (1 full year) of long-term substitute teaching at the Goodwill Excel Center. Possesses the essential mindset that all students can succeed. Drives to improve the outcomes and lives of students in and out of the classroom. Exhibits resilience to persevere and create opportunities for students out of challenges and lessons learned. Strong organizational skills; extremely careful attention to detail and follow-through. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to analyze data for informed decision making. Strong communication skills with ability to communicate direct feedback in a compelling way that empowers students to make immediate improvements. Ability to work well in a team; ability to bridge and enhance professional learning communities. Ability to create, monitor, and maintain systems that enhance instructional outcomes. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment; flexible, able to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed. Effective presentation skills accompanied with inspiring stage presence. Has working knowledge of computer programs to perform clerical tasks: Google Applications, Microsoft Office, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer.
