The Opportunity:
The Tax Policy Center, housed within the Tax & Income Supports Division (TIS) seeks an expert researcher who will contribute to and expand Urban's research and policy analysis on individual and corporate, tax modeling, and tax administration. Reporting to the Vice President for Tax Policy, the researcher will work with a talented group of colleagues spanning a variety of projects and disciplines across the Urban Institute.
What You'll Do
The successful candidate will work on projects analyzing the revenue and distributional consequences of tax policies, primarily at the federal level. They will also support the development of tax and transfer microsimulation models within TPC and TIS and supervise analyses using these models. This work will include:
* Conceptualizing and developing new research projects and initiatives that are creative, address public policy needs and meet high standards of methodological rigor
* Directing new or ongoing projects and initiatives, including being responsible for research quality, finances, timeline, staffing and managing staff, and meeting funder goals
* Leading efforts to fundraise for new research and initiatives as well as support efforts of other staff
* Establishing or continuing relationships with relevant external stakeholders, including local, state, and federal policymakers, business leaders, media, academia, nonprofits, and advocates
* Leading and collaborating on reporting research findings, including written products, creative data presentation, briefings, and presentations at meetings and conferences
* Communicating effectively with multiple research teams, senior and early career staff members from diverse backgrounds, and external stakeholders

What You'll Bring
* The knowledge and skills associated with a PhD in economics or a related field. Senior executive or legislative branch government experience also highly encouraged

**The Role**
Black Lotus Labs is seeking a Threat Researcher on the Research & Analysis team. This team leverages Lumen's global visibility of one of the world's largest and most interconnected IP backbones and a petabyte-scale compute cluster to perform cutting edge threat research, hunting and tracking advanced persistent threat actors (APTs) and emerging criminal activity as the threat actors traverse the internet. They empower customers to stay ahead of the evolving threat landscape, through contributions to customer facing tools and services.
We are looking for an innovative threat researcher who can apply large-scale data analysis and automation to help our analysts and threat hunters detect and track threats in our telemetry, increasing their effectiveness and driving insights for customers. Your work will combine threat research, software development and detection engineering to protect Lumen customers. This is a fully remote position.
**The Main Responsibilities**
+ Serve as Threat Research Subject Matter Expert, offering guidance and support to the Black Lotus Labs team on threat hunting activities, such as identifying knowledge gaps, troubleshooting technical challenges, developing solutions, and mentoring team members in overcoming obstacles. Set priorities for what threats and telemetry to analyze to maximize team's impact.
+ Spearhead threat research across technical data sets, fusing Black Lotus Labs telemetry with third party data sets, to automate detection of the latest threat attacker tools, techniques and procedures (TTPs) with a goal of automating detection.
+ Scale analysis of evolving threats and automate detection of emerging threat actor activity. Partner across Lumen to deliver end-to-end solutions to our products and services.

**What We Look For in a Candidate**
+ Extensive track record driving scaled threat intelligence from a variety of network and security telemetry sources as well as prototyping new innovative ideas and seeing them through to production.
+ Proven experience initiating and coordinating technical projects focused on telemetry collection, TTP based threat hunting, or developing threat hunt tools that have cross-organization impact on threat visibility, including leading private-public partnerships and multi-company collaborations.
+ Deep understanding of advanced threat hunting methodologies, attacker tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), and the ability to derive actionable threat hunts from complex data sets.

As part of IAVA's policy department, the research team researches the diverse array of issues confronting the newest generation of veterans and offers public policy solutions to these challenges. This full-time role sits within Strada's Institute for the Future of Work and reports to the Institute's Managing Research Director. The Senior Researcher is responsible for leading and executing methodologically rigorous research projects-from data management and statistical analysis to writing and visualizing key findings.
This role is ideal for a researcher who thrives at the intersection of empirical inquiry and public impact. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in quantitative research methods and a strong interest in informing education and workforce policy through rigorous, applied research. This is a hybrid position based in Washington, DC. The Senior Researcher is expected to work in Strada's DC office two days per week, with the flexibility to work remotely from home the remaining three days.

Key ResponsibilitiesConduct Rigorous Research (40%)
Lead the day-to-day execution of complex quantitative research projects aligned with the Institute's priorities.
Prepare and manage large, longitudinal datasets for analysis using Stata or R.
Make sound methodological decisions regarding sampling, variable construction, and analytic techniques.
Perform advanced statistical analyses, data quality checks, and prepare codebooks and documentation.
Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to deliver high-quality research.
Communicate Research Effectively (40%)
Draft and co-author peer-reviewed journal articles, policy briefs, and public reports.
Synthesize literature and develop subject matter expertise on key education and workforce topics.
Create presentations, data tables, figures, and infographics to communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
Deliver presentations at conferences, panels, and internal meetings.
Provide feedback on team products to ensure clarity, accuracy, and accessibility.
Develop New Research Directions (10%)
Identify emerging questions and areas of inquiry aligned with Strada's mission.
Cultivate relationships with partners to explore new research collaborations.
Support grant development and funding proposals to expand the Institute's research agenda.

Education and Experience
PhD (completed or imminent) in public policy, economics, sociology, demography, higher education, or a related discipline.
Expertise in quantitative methods, including causal inference and longitudinal data analysis.
Strong experience with data cleaning, coding, and management in Stata (preferred) or R.
Experience writing for both peer-reviewed journals and broader public or policy audiences.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
Exceptional writing, verbal communication, and collaboration skills.

Position Summary:
ISW promotes an understanding of war and conflict by providing data and critical analysis to key American political and military leaders. In addition, ISW seeks to educate civilians about war and conflict, thus bridging the gaps between military and civilian decision-makers. ISW aims to improve how the United States formulates and executes its national security policy. ISW seeks a full-time Researcher to conduct research within ISW's Russia Portfolio to provide timely and exceptional open-source analysis of the geo-strategic dynamics of Russian domestic and foreign policy and how those dynamics will affect U.S. national security interests. ISW seeks a talented and self-motivated Researcher with expertise in Russia-linked conflicts and the drivers of Russian foreign policy. The Researcher will publish his or her insights to help identify the risks and opportunities in different policy approaches to the Russia challenge for U.S. policy-makers and practitioners. The candidate must be passionate about conducting detail-oriented research on emergent events and demonstrate the ability to manage and mentor a team of research interns supporting the project.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide expert analysis on dynamic conflicts within the Russia portfolio by synthesizing open-source information on political and security developments.
Capture and analyze granular information on these developments, including implications of regional dynamics.
Work closely with teams studying China, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Al-Qaeda, Turkey, and ISIS to generate insights into regional and cross-border trends.
Aim to keep policymakers informed about ground situations, inflection points, developments affecting US interests, and potential policy options.
Gain proficiency in data-driven analytic software platforms to support investigations into complex research questions.
Publish findings through timely written and graphical reports and oral briefings.
Provide synthetic research support to long-term projects and forecasts to team members and programs as required.

Required education and experience:
