AAPG company history timeline
The American Association of Petroleum Geologists was organized in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1917, by the petroleum geologists of the Southwest.
The association's first technical bulletin resulted from the papers delivered at the 1917 meeting and this educational aspect became one of the organization's primary activities.
The situation began to be rectified on April 21, 1924, when the organization incorporated, and the next year it hired a paid staff.
The first account of the Society”s activities was a report on this convention, which appeared in the AAPG Bulletin (1924, Pacific Coast Meeting of Petroleum Geologists: Bull. of AAPG, vol.
On March 26, 1925, the Pacific Section of AAPG became the first Chartered Section of the National AAPG and history was made.
In 1925, the PSPG petitioned AAPG to become a Regional Section of AAPG. The petition was accepted at the National AAPG Convention held in Wichita in 1925.
In 1926 the AAPG leased a permanent headquarters building in Tulsa and thereafter experienced a period of growth.
From a beginning of 94 members it has grown to be the largest geological society in the world, with a membership of more than 2,000 at the end of 1928.
By 1953, with more than ten thousand members, the association erected a permanent headquarters building in Tulsa and subsequently expanded both in services and in membership.
